Platelet-rich plasma(PRP)can stimulate the proliferation of stem cells and have a positive effect on tissue *** many commercialized PRP preparation kits are already on the market,first-line clinical workers are still not satisfied with most of the PRP *** work of commercial PRP kits is based on the density of blood ***,the blood elements are very close in density which makes the separation ***,the mentioned commercialized kits are generally contaminated by leucocytes and *** this study,a home-designed PRP device was developed to use a separation membrane with adequate cut-off pore size of 5μm,3μm and 2μm for the groups of H5M,H3M,and H2M,respectively,to be placed in the middle of the centrifuge *** home-designed H2M showed a very promising results regardless of the final volume(1.82±0.09 ml),platelet yield(8.39±0.44%),Red Blood Cells(0%),White Blood Cells(0%),and Relative Concentration of Platelet Increment value(225.09%).Further,it showed a good result in cell viability and cytotoxicity and confirmed a good multilineage *** concentration in PRP prepared by group H2M was relatively stable and far above *** the fibrin fibers were linked together as bridging strands or strings and turned into an inter-connected porous structure for nutrients transportation and regenerative cell *** believe that the home-designed group H2M should have a great potential to develop into the final product to meet the requirements of first-line clinical workers.

A Grounded Capacitor Differentiator Using Current Feedback Amplifier

A new non-inverting RC active differentiator network base on a current feedback amplifier and using a grounded capacitor is described. Small time constant can be achieved by adjusting a single grounded resistor. Because the output impedance of the CFA is very low, the output terminal of the proposed circuit can be directly connected to the next stage. Experimental results that confirm theoretical analysis are presented.

Ultrasound Mediated Delivery of Liposomal Doxorubicin in Mice with Glioma

Malignant brain tumors remain difficult to treat with chemotherapy because the blood–brain barrier (BBB) limits the amounts of potent agents that can reach the tumor, such that the drugs are unable to reach therapeutic dosage. Although various targeted carriers that encapsulate chemotherapeutic agents have been shown to improve drug delivery to brain tumors, the BBB is still a major obstacle in the use of chemotherapy for the treatment of these tumors. Human glioblastoma-bearing mice were injected intravenously with doxorubicin (Dox) encapsulated in atherosclerotic plaque-specific peptide-1 (AP-1)-conjugated liposomes or unconjugated liposome. These treatments took place with or without BBB disruption induced by transcranial pulsed high-intensity focused ultrasound (pulsed HIFU). This study showed that the treatment with Dox encapsulated in AP-1-conjugated liposomes followed by pulsed HIFU enhanced the accumulation of the cytotoxic drug in cells and inhibited the growth of brain tumors in vivo. Combining pulsed HIFU with cytotoxic agents might improve their efficacy in patients with brain tumors while simultaneously reducing the drug side effects. Further investigation is required to provide a comprehensive physical characterization of the sonication process and to determine its bioeffects.

Fabrication and Characterization of Poly(Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene)/Thermoplastic Polyurethane Blends

This investigation presents thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) based on poly (styrene-butadiene-styrene) (SBS) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) materials were prepared with varying compositions. A series of works were conducted on the relationships between rheological, optical properties, morphology, mechanical properties, abrasion resistance and thermostability given. The results showed that the shear viscosity of SBS not obvious effect with TPU content. The optical properties of the SBS/TPU blend that its uniform transparency. The morphology characteristics indicating the phase diversion and the variation in the size of the SBS domains from large to small as the TPU contents increased, with heterogeneous domain dispersions. Additionally, the mechanical properties, abrasion resistance and thermal resistance are improved as the amount of added TPU is increased, suggesting that the blending of SBS with TPU is consistent with the compound rule.

Vertical Handover Decision for Mobile IoT Edge Gateway Using Multi-Criteria and Fuzzy Logic Techniques

Internet of Things (IoT) is ubiquitous, including objects or devices communicating through heterogenous wireless networks. One of the major challenges in mobile IoT is an efficient vertical handover decision (VHD) technique between heterogenous networks for seamless connectivity with constrained resources. The conventional VHD approach is mainly based on received signal strength (RSS). The approach is inefficient for vertical handover, since it always selects the target network with the strongest signal without taking into consideration of factors such as quality of service (QoS), cost, delay, etc. In this paper, we present a hybrid approach by integrating the multi-cri- teria based VHD (MCVHD) technique and an algorithm based on fuzzy logic for efficient VHD among Wi-Fi, Radio and Satellite networks. The MCVHD provides a lightweight solution that aims to achieving seamless connectivity for mobile IoT Edge Gateway over a set of heterogeneous networks. The proposed solution is evaluated in real time using a testbed containing real IoT devices. Further, the testbed is integrated with lightweight and efficient software techniques, e.g., microservices, containers, broker, and Edge/Cloud techniques. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is suitable for an IoT environment and it outperforms the conventional RSS Quality based VHD by minimizing handover failures, unnecessary handovers, handover time and cost of service.

Clinical proteomics identifies potential biomarkers in Helicobacter pylori for gastrointestinal diseases

The development of gastrointestinal diseases has been found to be associated with Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection and various biochemical stresses in stomach and intestine. These stresses, such as oxidative, osmotic and acid stresses, may bring about bidirectional effects on both hosts and H. pylori, leading to changes of protein expression in their proteomes. Therefore, proteins differentially expressed in H. pylori under various stresses not only reflect gastrointestinal environment but also provide useful biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis. In this regard, proteomic technology is an ideal tool to identify potential biomarkers as it can systematically monitor proteins and protein variation on a large scale of cell's translational landscape, permitting in-depth analyses of host and pathogen interactions. By performing twodimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(2-DE) followed by liquid chromatography-nanoESI-mass spectrometry(nanoLC-MS/MS), we have successfully pinpointed alkylhydroperoxide reductase(AhpC), neutrophil-activating protein and non-heme iron-binding ferritin as three prospective biomarkers showing upregulation in H. pylori under oxidative, osmotic and acid stresses, respectively. Further biochemical characterization reveals that various environmental stresses can induce protein structure change and functional conversion in the identified biomarkers. Especially salient is the antioxidant enzyme AhpC, an abundant antioxidant protein present in H. pylori. It switches from a peroxide reductase of low-molecular-weight(LMW) oligomers to a molecular chaperone of high-molecular-weight(HMW) complexes under oxidative stress. Different seropositivy responses against LMW or HMW AhpC in H. pylori-infected patients faithfully match the disease progression from disease-free healthy persons to patients with gastric ulcer and cancer. These results has established AhpC of H. pylori as a promising diagnostic marker for gastrointestinal maladies

An Adaptive Video-on-Demand Framework for Multimedia Cross-Platform Cloud Services

Although Video-On-Demand (VOD) has been in existence for years, its cross-platform applicability in cloud service environments is still in increasing need. In this paper, an Adaptive Video-On-Demand (AVOD) framework that is suitable for private cloud environments is proposed. Private cloud has the key advantage of satisfying the real need of both consumers and providers. Hence, demands such as reasonable benefits for provider and high quality for consumers are essential design considerations in this framework. The difficulty is that these two factors are always high in one end and low in the other, and hard to find a delicate balance. Cloud service could be an opportunity for the multimedia providers to obtain higher benefits and cost less for the consumers but with an even better quality in service. An adaptive framework for such a cloud service environment is proposed to resolve this problem. Some interesting phenomena are observed from the experimental results including CPU utilization, data reading and writing speed, memory usage, port configuration execution time, and bandwidth.

Shunt Reactor Switching Characteristics and Maintenance Planning in 161 kV System

The high frequency transient recovery voltage caused by usually switching operation of the circuit breakers, used on shunt reactor switching, have become a noticeable problem recently. For extension the service life time and normal operation of the circuit breakers, a well modified maintenance strategy is proposed. The field testing and experimental measurement showed the maintenance strategy proposed had been proved effectively and adopted in Taiwan Power Company.

Training gastroenterology fellows to perform gastric polypectomy using a novel ex vivo model

AIM:To evaluate the effect of hands-on training of gastroenterology fellows in gastric polypectomy using an ex vivo ***:Eight gastroenterology fellows at Mackay Memorial Hospital,Taipei were evaluated in gastricpolypectomy techniques using a pig stomach with artificial polyps created by a rubber band ligation *** performance of four second year(year-2)fellows who had undergone one year of clinical training was compared with that of four f irst year(year-1)fellows both before and after a 4-h workshop using the ex vivo *** workshop allowed for hands-on train-ing in the removal of multiple artif icial polyps and the placement of hemoclips at the excision *** included observation of technical skills,procedure time,and the fellows' conf idence ***:One week after the workshop,the year-1 fellows were re-evaluated and had significantly im-proved mean performance scores(from 17.9 ± 1.8 to 22.5 ± 0.7),conf idence scale(from 4.5 ± 1.0 to 7.8 ± 0.5)and procedure time(from 615.0 ± 57.4 s to 357.5 ± 85.0 s)compared with their baseline *** 4 h of training using the ex vivo simulator,the skills of the year-1 fellows were statistically similar to those of the year-2 ***:Use of this ex vivo simulator significantly improved the endoscopic gastric polypectomy skills of gastroenterology fellows who had not had previous clinical training in gastric polypectomy.
