OBJECTIVE: To assess Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba extract(ARE) neuroprotective function in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP)-treated mice and related genes. METHODS: Examined m RNA-DNA methylation changes induced by ARE in MPTP-induced Parkinson's disease(PD) model's substantia nigra. RESULTS: ARE mitigated MPTP-induced motor impairment in rotarod and open field tests and preserved tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neuronal cells in substantia nigra and striatum. Genome RNA-Sequencing and Methyl-Sequencing in substantia nigra of vehicle/ARE-treated MPTP-induced PD mice showed 84 differentially expressed genes(DEGs) and 1804 differentially methylated regions(DMRs). Upregulated genes involved zinc ion homeostasis, cilium protein localization, and transcription;downregulated genes linked to ephrin receptor signaling, somitogenesis, and gene expression regulation. Hyper/hypomethylated DMRs post-ARE treatment associated with Wnt signaling, mitochondrial organization, dopamine biosynthesis, and hindbrain development. No significant correlation between DEGs and methylated genes related to PD pathogenesis. CONCLUSION: This research has identified the epigenetic targets of ARE's therapeutic action and gives insight on how ARE protects neurons in Parkinson's disease.

Extraction of rare earth elements from neodymium(NdFeB) magnet scrap using magnesium halides

The demand for neodymium（NdFeB） permanent magnets for electric vehicles and eco-friendly generators is ***,NdFeB magnets contain rare earth elements（REEs）,which are limited in *** this study,we performed an exchange reaction between magnesium halides（fluoride and chloride） and waste NdFeB scrap and then compared the characteristics of the extracted halides *** compositions of the ternary Mg fluoride（LiF:NaF:MgF2=50:40:10 in mole ratio） and chloride（LiCl:NaCl:MgCl2=10:50:40 in mole ratio） salts were thermodynamically determined for achieving low eutectic *** reactions between the NdFeB scrap powder（1-2 mm） and Mg halide salts were carried out at 1073 and 873 K for the fluoride and chloride systems,respectively,in an argon *** the reaction,we separated Nd halide from the residual salt and evaluated the Ndextraction *** phase formation of the salt was analyzed using X-ray diffraction（XRD）,and the extraction rate of Nd was analyzed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy（ICPOES）.Nd was extracted in the form of Nd halide（NdF3or NdCl3）,and the extraction rates in the fluoride and chloride systems are 98.64% and 84.59%,***,the fluoride system is more effective than the chloride system for Nd *** study provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of the effectiveness of fluo ride and chlo ride systems in extracting REEs from NdFeB magnet *** study findings can be used to develop an effective method for recycling magnet scraps.

Increased intestinal macromolecular permeability and urine nitrite excretion associated with liver cirrhosis with ascites

AIM： To determine intestinal permeability, the serum tumor necrosis factor （TNF）-α level and urine nitric oxide （NO） metabolites are altered in liver cirrhosis （LC） with or without ascites. METHODS： Fifty-three patients with LC and 26 healthy control subjects were enrolled in the study. The intestinal permeability value is expressed as the percentage of polyethylene glycol （PEG） 400 and 3350 retrieval in 8-h urine samples as determined by high performance liquid chromatography. Serum TNF-α concentrations and urine NO metabolites were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） and Greiss reaction method, respectively. RESULTS： The intestinal permeability index wassignificantly higher in patients with LC with ascites than in healthy control subjects or patients with LC without ascites （0.88 ± 0.12 vs 0.52 ± 0.05 or 0.53 ± 0.03, P 〈 0.05） and correlated with urine nitrite excretion （r = 0.98）. Interestingly, the serum TNF-α concentration was significantly higher in LC without ascites than in control subjects or in LC with ascites （198.9 ± 55.8 pg/mL vs 40.9 ± 12.3 pg/mL or 32.1 ± 13.3 pg/mL, P 〈 0.05）. Urine nitrite excretion was significantly higher in LC with ascites than in the control subjects or in LC without ascites（ 1170.9± 28.7 μmol/L vs 903.1 ± 55.1 μmol/L or 956.7 ± 47.7 μmol/L, P 〈 0.05）. COMCLUSIOM： Increased intestinal macromolecular permeability and NO is probably of importance in the pathophysiology and progression of LC with ascites, but the serum TNF-α concentration was not related to LC with ascites.

Over the years,zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)have attracted attention as a promising next-generation energy storage technology because of their excellent safety,long cycling performance,eco-friendliness,and high-power ***,issues,such as the corrosion and dissolution of the Zn anode,limited wet-tability,and lack of sufficient nucleation sites for Zn plating,have limited their practical *** introduction of a protective layer comprising of tellurium(Te)nanobelts onto the surface of Zn anode has emerged as a promising approach to overcome these limitations and improve the electrochemical behav-ior by enhancing the safety and wettability of ZIBs,as well as providing numerous nucleation sites for Zn *** the presence of a Te-based protective layer,the energy power density of the surface-engineered Zn anode improved significantly(ranging from 310 to 144 W h kg^(-1),over a power density range of 270 to 1,800 W kg^(-1)),and the lifespan capability was *** results demonstrate that the proposed strategy of employing Te nanobelts as a protective layer holds great promise for enhancing the energy storage performance of zIBs,making them even more attractive as a viable energy storage solution forthefuture.

Mechanical alloying of platinum with 5% ZrO_2 nanoparticles for glass making tools

Synthesis and characterization of mechanically alloyed Pt-5%ZrO2(volume fraction) for structural components in the glass industry were described. Zirconia(ZrO2) nanoparticles(<100 nm) were produced by the electrical explosion of zirconium(Zr) wires, and blended with platinum(Pt) powders(<44 ?m) for 2-72 h in ambient atmosphere. The Pt particle size followed the typical decreasing trend of the normal ball milling process up to 48 h, but particle agglomeration was observed at 72 h. The grain size evolution was similar to that of the particle size, dropping down to around 50 nm at 48 h. The root mean square strain of the Pt crystallites showed the opposite behavior, maximizing at 48 h with a subsequent relaxation process. For the 48 h ball milled powders, spark plasma sintering was carried out to form a bulk disk. The measured mass loss of the sintered bulk sample shows a decent thermal stability despite its relatively low density.

BACKGROUND There are concerns that tamoxifen is less effective in Asian women because of the high prevalence of impaired function cytochrome P4502D6(CYP2D6)*** To evaluate how knowledge of CYP2D6 genotype impacted the choice of hormonal agent and how CYP2D6 genotype and agent were associated with clinical *** Eighty-two women were ***-eight completed CYP2D6 genotyping and were categorized into poor,intermediate(IM)and extensive or ultra metabolizer *** with poor metabolizer and IM phenotypes were recommended aromatase inhibitors as the preferred *** More than 70%of the women had an IM phenotype,32%an extensive or ultra metabolizer phenotype,and 0%had a poor metabolizer *** of genotype,more women opted for aromatase ***,80%of women completed 5 years of hormonal *** women developed recurrence,3 contralateral breast cancer,5 died,and 1 was diagnosed with a second primary ***-year recurrence-free and overall survival were slightly better in women with the extensive or ultra metabolizer phenotype compared to those with the IM phenotype,though not statistically significant[P=0.743,hazard ratio(HR):1.441,95%confidence interval(CI):0.191 to 10.17 and P=0.798,HR:1.327,95%CI:0.172 to 9.915,respectively].Women receiving aromatase inhibitors also appeared to have a better,but also nonsignificant,5-year recurrence-free and overall survival(P=0.253,HR:0.368,95%CI:0.031 to 0.258 and P=0.292,HR:0.252,95%CI:0.005 to 4.951,respectively).CONCLUSION The IM phenotype was highly prevalent but was not associated with clinical outcome.

Background: Myelin protein zero gene (MPZ) mutations may account for a small p roportion of cases of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT). Different MPZ mutatio ns may be associated with different clinical and electrophysiological phenotypes .Objectives: To expand our understanding of the characteristics of nerve conduct ion velocity (NCV) in patients with different MPZ mutations, the authors collect ed and analysed the NCVvalues from patients with MPZ mutations. Materials and Me thods:The NCVs of fourteen patients from six families carrying MPZ mutations of Val58Asp, Ser63Phe, Thr65Ile,Arg98Cys,Arg98His, and Ser233fs were collected retr ospectively. Five of them had received nerve conduction studies (NCS) twice. The mutations were verified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-amplifications and nucleotide sequencing. Scatterplot analyses of media n motor NCV (MNCV) versus specific MPZ mutation were performed. Results: The med ian MNCV varied widely,with a mean of 16.3 m/s (SD=7.7 m/s) and a range of 5.1- 32.9 m/s. Median MNCVs of patients with particular MPZ mutations were similar. M oreover, Median MNCV did not change significantly over time. Conclusions: There was concordance between median MNCV and specific MPZ ***, median M NCV is not an ideal measure with which to distinguish CMT1B patients with MPZ mu tations from CMT1A patients with PMP22 mutations.
