In this study,we investigated the preventive effects of emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL,which was newly developed to reduce the injection volume and number of injection holes required to protect against pine wood nematode.None of the Pinus thunbergii trees injected with emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL at 0.3 mL/cm diameter at breast height(DBH)died within 2 years of inoculation with pine wood nematodes.Emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL injected at 0.6 mL/cm DBH resulted in no tree mortality for 3 years.Mean residue of emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL in pine twigs injected with 0.3 mL/cm DBH was 0.490μg/g at 1 year after injection and 0.303μg/g after 2 years.These residues values are greater than 0.031μg/g,previously determined IC95 value for emamectin benzoate against the pine wood nematode.Our field experiment and residue analysis showed that emamectin benzoate 9.7%SL could be a substitute agent for emamectin benzoate 2.15%EC,which is widely used to prevent pine wood nematode in the field and that injection volume and number of injection holes can be greatly educed using this new formulation,which will reduce injury to the cambium,interruption of water movement,and infection of inoculation wounds by wood-decay or blue stain fungi.

Clinical implication of FDG uptake of bone marrow on PET/CT in gastric cancer patients with surgical resection

AIM To determine the relationship between F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG) uptake of bone marrow(BM) on positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT) and clinical factors and to assess the prognostic value of FDG uptake of BM in gastric carcinoma.METHODS We retrospectively enrolled 309 gastric cancer patients who underwent staging FDG PET/CT and curative surgical resection. FDG uptake of primary tumor was visually classified as positive or negative FDG uptake. Mean FDG uptake of BM(BM SUV) and BM-to-liver uptake ratio(BLR) were measured. The relationships of BM SUV or BLR with clinical factors were evaluated. The prognostic values of BM SUV, BLR, and other clinical factors for predicting recurrence-free survival(RFS) and overall survival(OS) were assessed.RESULTS Of 309 patients, 38 patients(12.3%) experienced cancer recurrence and 18 patients(5.8%) died. Patients with advanced gastric cancer, positive FDG uptake, and recurrence had higher values of BM SUV and BLR than those with early gastric cancer, negative FDG uptake, and no recurrence(P il-to-lymphocyte ratio, and platelet-tolymphocyte ratio(P < 0.05). On multivariate analysis, multiple tumors, T stage, lymph node metastasis, tumor involvement of resection margin, and BLR were significantly associated with RFS(P < 0.05). T stage, lymph node metastasis, hemoglobin level, and BLR were significantly associated with OS(P < 0.05). CONCLUSION BLR on PET/CT was an independent prognostic factor for RFS and OS in gastric cancer patients with curative surgical resection.

AA5454-O aluminum alloy plates with thicknesses of 1.4 and 1.0 mm were friction-stir-lap-welded (FSLWed).The influences of the tool plunge depth and welding distance on surface appearance,macrostructure and mechanical properties of the FSLWed plates were experimentally investigated.The tensile shear load of the FSLWed plates was compared with that of the adhesive-bonded plates.Defect-free FSLWed zones were successfully obtained in all the tool plunge depths and the welding distances.The FSLWed zones exhibited the relatively smooth surface morphologies.Under all the FSLWed conditions,the FSLWed zone exhibited higher average hardness than the base metal.In addition,the upper plate exhibited a higher average hardness than the lower plate,although there was no special tendency in spite of the change in the tool plunge depth and the welding distance.The maximum tensile shear load of the FSLWed plates was much higher than that of the adhesive-bonded aluminum alloy plate.Especially,under the FSLW condition of the plunge depth of 1.8 mm and the welding distance of 40 mm,the tensile shear load of the FSLWed plate reached a level about 41% greater than that of the adhesive-bonded aluminum alloy plate.In addition,the maximum tensile shear load of the FSLWed plate was increased with the increase of the welding distance.

Characterization of smooth muscle, enteric nerve, interstitial cells of Cajal, and fibroblast-like cells in the gastric musculature of patients with diabetes mellitus

AIM To investigate histologic abnormalities in the gastric smooth muscle of patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).METHODS Full-thickness gastric specimens were obtained from patients undergoing surgery for gastric cancer. H&E stain and Masson's Trichrome stain were performed to assess the degree of fibrosis. Immunohistochemical staining using various antibodies was also performed [antibodies against protein gene product 9.5(PGP9.5), neuronal nitric oxide synthase(n NOS), vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP), neurokinin-1(NK1) receptor, c-Kit, and platelet-derived growth factor receptor-alpha,(PDGFRα)]. Immunofluorescent staining and evaluation with confocal microscopy were also conducted.RESULTS Twenty-six controls and 35 diabetic patients(21 shortduration patients and 14 long-duration patients) were included. There were no significant differences in basic demographics between the two groups except in mean body mass index(BMI)(higher in the DM group). Proportions of moderate-to-severe intercellular fibrosis in the muscle layer were significantly higher in the DM group than in the control group(P < 0.01). On immunohistochemical staining, c-Kit- and PDGFRα-positive immunoreactivity were significantly decreased in the DM group compared with the control group(P < 0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in PGP9.5, n NOS, VIP, and neurokinin 1 expression. On immunofluorescent staining, cellularity of interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC) was observed to decrease with increasing duration of DM.CONCLUSION Our study suggests that increased intercellular fibrosis, loss of ICC, and loss of fibroblast-like cells are found in the smooth muscle of DM patients. These abnormalities may contribute to changes in gastric motor activity in patients with DM.

Mechanical lithotripsy(ML) is usually considered as a standard treatment option for large bile duct stones.However,it is impossible to retrieve oversized stones because the conventional lithotripsy basket may not be able to grasp the stone.However,there is no established endoscopic extraction method for such giant stone removal.We describe a case of successful extraction of a 4-cm large stone using a gastric bezoar basket.A 78-year-old woman had suffered from upper abdominal pain for 20 d.Contrast-enhanced computed tomogram revealed a 4-cm single stone in the distal common bile duct(CBD).Endoscopic stone retraction was decided upon and endoscopic papillary balloon dilation was performed using a large balloon.An attempt to capture the stone using a standard lithotripsy basket failed due to the large stone size.Subsequently,we used a gastric bezoar basket to successfully capturethe stone.The stone was fragmented into small pieces and extracted.The stone was completely removed after two sessions of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography;each of which took 30 min.No complications occurred during or after the procedure.The patient was fully recovered and discharged on day 11 of hospitalization.ML using a gastric bezoar basket is a safe and effective retrieval method in select cases,and is considered as an alternative nonoperative option for the management of difficult CBD stones.

This study proposes a novel asymmetric rotor pole design for wound field synchronous machines(WFSMs),which can achieve high saliency ratio and also low torque ripple.The key point is the optimal design of the asymmetric rotor pole with the inverse-cosine-shaped(ICS)plus reverse 3rd harmonic shaping.The asymmetric rotor pole can help to improve the average output torque by enhancing the saliency ratio.The reverse 3rd harmonic shaping on the rotor pole surface is mainly used to reduce the torque ripple.To certify the effectivity of the proposed design,three-phase 54-slot/6-pole 4.7kW WFSMs with uniform air gap and with non-uniform air gap shaped by the ICS plus optimum reverse 3rd harmonic are utilized as the basic model and referenced model for comparison.For the referenced model,the optimum amplitude of reverse 3rd harmonic is preferred as 1/6.Finally,all electromagnetic characteristics of the investigated machines are predicted by the finite-element method(FEM).The highest saliency ratio and comparatively low torque ripple have been verified.

Enumerating the isomorphism or equivalence classes of several types of graph coverings is one of the central research topics in enumerative topological graph theory.A covering projection p from a Cayley graph Cay(Г,X)onto another Cayley graph Cay(Q,y)is called typical if the function p:Г→Q on the vertex sets is a group epimorphism.A typical covering is called abelian(or circulant,respectively)if its covering graph is a Cayley graph on an abelism(or a cyclic,respectively)group.Recently,the equivalence classes of connected abelian typical prime-fold coverings of a circulant graph are enumerated.As a continuation of this work,we enumerate the equivalence classes of connected abelian typical cube-free fold coverings of a circulant graph.

Two-dimensional(2D)transition metal chalcogenides(TMC)and their heterostructures are appealing as building blocks in a wide range of electronic and optoelectronic devices,particularly futuristic memristive and synaptic devices for brain-inspired neuromorphic computing systems.The distinct properties such as high durability,electrical and optical tunability,clean surface,flexibility,and LEGO-staking capability enable simple fabrication with high integration density,energy-efficient operation,and high scalability.This review provides a thorough examination of high-performance memristors based on 2D TMCs for neuromorphic computing applications,including the promise of 2D TMC materials and heterostructures,as well as the state-of-the-art demonstration of memristive devices.The challenges and future prospects for the development of these emerging materials and devices are also discussed.The purpose of this review is to provide an outlook on the fabrication and characterization of neuromorphic memristors based on 2D TMCs.

We report here a case of pancreatic pseudocystocolic fistula that was treated without surgical or endoscopic intervention.A 76-year-old woman,presenting with a fever and epigastric pain,was referred to our institution.Three months prior to this admission,the patient had been admitted to the hospital for acute pancreatitis.Abdominal computerized tomography(CT)revealed a 9 cm pseudocyst containing air,and a fistular opening was observed via colonoscopy.After colonoscopy,the abdominal pain was slightly improved,the fever subsided and laboratory results showed decreased C-reactive protein levels.The observed improvement was likely due to the cleansing of the bowel,which induced spontaneous drainage from the pseudocyst into the colon.Antibiotic therapy was administered and daily bowel cleansing was performed using a polyethylene glycol solution.After three weeks,a follow-up CT revealed that the size of the pseudocyst had decreased significantly from 9 to 5.3 cm.In addition,laboratory tests were improved.The patient was able to resume a normal diet and was discharged in good overall health from the hospital,without aggravation of the symptoms.A colonoscopy performed 3 mo later and a follow-up CT performed 6 mo later confirmed that both the fistula and pseudocyst had completely disappeared.
