a. ha. been loa.ed （1% wt.） on different commercia. oxide supports （CuO, La.O3, Y2O3, NiO） by three different methods： double impregna.ion （dIM）, liquid-pha.e reductive deposition （LpRd）, a.d ultra.onica.ion （US）. Sa.ples were cha.a.terised by N2 a.sorption a. -196℃, high-resolution tra.smission electron microscopy, selected a.ea.electron diffra.tion, energy dispersive X-ra. spectrometry, high-a.gle a.nula. da.k-field ima.ing （Z-contra.t）, X-ra. diffra.tion, a.d tempera.ure progra.med reduction. CO oxida.ion wa. used a. a.test rea.tion to compa.e the ca.a.ytic a.tivities. The best results were obta.ned with a. loa.ed by dIM on the NiO support, with a. a.tivity of 7.2 × 10^（-4） molco·ga.^（-1）·s^（-1） a. room tempera.ure. This is most likely rela.ed to the a. na.opa.ticle size being the sma.lest in this ca.a.yst （a.era.e 4.8 nm）, since it is well known tha. gold pa.ticle size determines the ca.a.ytic a.tivity. Other sa.ples, ha.ing la.ger a. pa.ticle sizes （in the 2-12 nm ra.ge, with a.era.e sizes ra.ging from 4.8 to 6.8 nm）, showed lower a.tivities. Nevertheless, a.l sa.ples prepa.ed by dIM ha. a.tivities （from 1.1 × 10^（-4） to 7.2 × 10^（-4） molco·ga.^（-1）·S^（-1）, a. room tempera.ure） a.ove those reported in the litera.ure for gold on simila. oxide supports. Therefore, this method gives better results tha. the most usua. methods of deposition-precipita.ion or co-precipita.ion.

Sodium ca.boxymethylcellulose （CMCNa. is a. a.ionic wa.er soluble polyelectrolyte widely used in ma.y industria. sectors including food, textiles, pa.ers, a.hesives, pa.nts, pha.ma.eutica.s, cosmetics a.d minera. processing. CMCNa.wa. produced by chemica. modifica.ion of cellulose, a.d represents ma.y a.va.ta.es： na.ura., renewa.le, non-toxic a.d biodegra.a.le. In this study, different kinds of CMCNa. prepa.ed from a. a.ricultura. wa.te da.e pa.m ra.his, were tested a. eco-friendly floccula.ts for drinking wa.er trea.ment a.d their performa.ces a. floccula.ts in turbidity remova. enha.cement were a.sessed. The prepa.ed ma.eria.s were cha.a.terized by the degree of substitution （dS） a.d polymerisa.ion （dp）. The study of the effect of some experimenta. pa.a.eters on the coa.ula.ion-floccula.ion performa.ce, using the prepa.ed ma.eria.s combined with a.uminium sulpha.e （a. coa.ula.t）, showed tha. the best conditions for turbidity trea.ment were given for pH 8, coa.ula.t dose 20 mg/L, floccula.t concentra.ion of 100 mg/L a.d stirring velocity （during the floccula.ion step） of 30 r/min. Under the optimum conditions, the turbidity remova. using CMCNa. prepa.ed from ra. ma.eria., wa. a.out 95%. a.compa.ison study between the floccula.ion performa.ce of a.commercia. a.ionic floccula.t （a.00pWG： polya.ryla.ide） a.d tha. of the prepa.ed CMCNa.showed tha. the performa.ce of the wa.te-ba.ed floccula.t with a.dS of 1.17 a.d a.dp of 480 wa. 10% better tha. tha. a.hieved by the commercia. one.
