In this paper we pursue the study of the best approximation operator extended from L~Φ to L~φ, where φ denotes the derivative of the function Φ. We get pointwise convergence for the coefficients of the extended best approximation polynomials for a wide class of function f, closely related to the Calder′on–Zygmund class t_m^p(x) which had been introduced in 1961. We also obtain weak and strong type inequalities for a maximal operator related to the extended best polynomial approximation and a norm convergence result for the coefficients is derived. In most of these results, we have to consider Matuszewska–Orlicz indices for the function φ.

This editorial refers to the article“Comparative analysis of Nε-carboxymethyllysine and inflammatory markers in diabetic and non-diabetic coronary artery disease patients”,published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Diabetes 2023 is based on glucose metabolism,advanced glycation end products(AGEs),inflammation and adiposity on diabetes and coronary artery disease(CAD).This study has included CAD patients who were stratified according to glycosylated hemoglobin higher than 6.5 and sex-matched.A higher prevalence of hypertension,dyslipidemia,and non-vegetarian diet were found in the diabetic group.These risk factors might influence body weight and adiposity and explain the increment of the left atrium.Although this data was not supported by the study.The diet can also explain the non-enzymatic reactions on lipids,proteins,or nucleic acids and consequently an increment of AGEs.These molecules can emit fluorescence.However,one of the non-fluorescent and most abundant AGEs is Nε-carboxymethyl-lysine(CML).Its association with coronary artery stenosis and severity in the diabetic group might suggest its role as a player in CAD progression.Thus,CML,after binding with its receptor(RAGE),can induce calcification cascade through reactive oxygen species and mitogen-activated protein kinase.Moreover,this interaction AGE-RAGE can cause activation of the transcription nuclear factor-kb and induce inflammatory cytokines.It might explain the relationship between CML and pro-inflammatory cytokines in diabetic and CAD patients.Although this is a population from one center,the determination of CML and inflammatory cytokines might improve the diagnosis of severe and progressive CAD.Future and comparative studies among glycosylated hemoglobin,CML,and other AGE levels according to diagnosis and prognosis value might modify the clinical practice.Although these molecules are irreversible,they can act through a specific receptor inducing a signal transduction that might be modulated by inhibitors,antibodies,or siRNA.Further mech

Discovered in pig brains in 1982,the brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)is one of the most studied and characterized neurotrophins in the central nervous system.In recent years,BDNF has received considerable attention for its importance in the development and maintenance of normal brain function.This is because BDNF plays an important role in crucial functions of the nervous system,such as the survival,differentiation,and maturation of neurons and glial cells as well as the actions of neuroprotection in adverse conditions,such as glutamatergic overstimulation,cerebral ischemia,hypoglycemia,and neurotoxicity(Kowiański et al.,2018).

In this paper,the influence of ground motion duration on the inelastic displacement ratio,C_(1),of highly damped SDOF systems is studied.For this purpose,two sets of spectrally equivalent long and short duration ground motion records were used in an analysis to isolate the effects of ground motion duration on.The effect of duration was evaluated for observed values of C_(1) by considering six ductility levels,and different damping and post-yield stiffness ratios.A new predictive equation of C_(1) also was developed for long and short duration records.Results of non-linear regression analysis of the current study provide an expression with which to quantify the duration effect.Based on the average values of estimated C_(1) ratios for long duration records divided by C_(1) for a short duration set,it is concluded that the maximum difference between long and short duration records occurs when the damping ratio is 0.3 and the post-yield stiffness ratio is equal to zero.

Bioaerosols are airborne microorganisms that cause infectious sickness,respiratory and chronic health issues.They have become a latent threat,particularly in indoor environment.Photocatalysis is a promising process to inactivate completely bioaerosols from air.However,in systems treating a continuous air flow,catalysts can be partially lost in the gaseous effluent.To avoid such phenomenon,supporting materials can be used to fix catalysts.In the present work,four photocatalytic systems using Perlite or Poraver glass beads impregnated with ZnO or TiO_(2)were tested.The inactivation mechanism of bioaerosols and the cytotoxic effect of the catalysts to^bioaeros^ls were studied.The plug flow photocatalytic reactor treated a bioaerosol flow of 460×10^(6)cells/m^(3)_(air)with a residence time of 5.7 s.Flow Cytometry(FC)was used to quantify and characterize bioaerosols in terms of dead,injured and live cells.The most efficient system was ZnO/Perlite with 72%inactivation of bioaerosols,maintaining such inactivation during 7.5 h due to the higher water retention capacity of Perlite(2.8 mL/gpcriite)in comparison with Poraver(1.5 mL/gperiite).However,a global balance showed that Ti0_(2)/Poraver system triggered the highest level of cytotoxicity to bioaerosols retained on the support after 96 h with 95%of dead cells.SEM and FC analyses showed that the mechanism of inactivation with ZnO was based on membrane damage,morphological cell changes and cell lysis;whereas only membrane damage and cell lysis were involved with Ti0_(2).Overall,results highlighted that photocatalytic technologies can completely inactivate bioaerosols in indoor environments.

Cannabis,commonly known as marijuana,is a drug extracted from the Cannabis plant known for its psychotropic and medicinal properties.It has been used for healing purposes during ancient times,although its psychoactive components led to its restricted use in medicine.Nonetheless,cannabis is found to have modulatory effects on the endocannabinoid system exhibiting its medicinal role in the gastrointestinal(GI)system.Emerging animal and human studies demonstrate the influential effects of cannabis on a variety of GI diseases including inflammatory bowel disease,motility disorders and GI malignancies.It also has a regulatory role in GI symptoms including nausea and vomiting,anorexia,weight gain,abdominal pain,among others.However,both its acute and chronic use can lead to undesirable side effects such as dependency and addiction,cognitive impairment and cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.We will discuss the role of cannabis in the GI system as well as dosing strategies to help guide gastroenterologists to assess its efficacy and provide patient counseling before prescription of medical marijuana.

The extracellular matrix-associated bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs) govern a plethora of biological processes. The BMPs are members of the transforming growth factor-β protein superfamily, and they actively participate to kidney development, digit and limb formation, angiogenesis, tissue fibrosis and tumor development. Since their discovery, they have attracted attention for their fascinating perspectives in the regenerative medicine and tissue engineering fields. BMPs have been employed in many preclinical and clinical studies exploring their chondrogenic or osteoinductive potential in several animal model defects and in human diseases. During years of research in particular two BMPs, BMP2 and BMP7 have gained the podium for their use in the treatment of various cartilage and bone defects. In particular they have been recently approved for employment in non-union fractures as adjunct therapies. On the other hand, thanks to their potentialities in biomedical applications, there is a growing interest in studying the biology of mesenchymal stem cell(MSC), the rules underneath their differentiation abilities, and to test their true abilities in tissue engineering. In fact, the specific differentiation of MSCs into targeted celltype lineages for transplantation is a primary goal of the regenerative medicine. This review provides an overview on the current knowledge of BMP roles and signaling in MSC biology and differentiation capacities. In particular the article focuses on the potential clinical use of BMPs and MSCs concomitantly, in cartilage and bone tissue repair.
