intracerebral hemorrhage （iCH）, caused by the sudden rupture of an artery within the brain, is a devastating subtype of stroke, which currently has no effective treatment. intense inflammatory reactions that occur in the peri-hematomal area after iCH are more deleterious than the hematoma itself, resulting in subsequent brain edema and neurologic deterioration. Thus, we developed lipid-coated magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles doped with ceria nanoparticles （CeNPs）, abbreviated as LMCs, which have both potent anti-inflammatory therapeutic effects via scavenging reactive oxygen species and help in increasing the efficacy of magnetic resonance imaging enhancement in the peri-hematomal area. LMCs consist of mesoporous silica nanopartide-supported lipid bilayers, which are loaded with large amounts of CeNPs for scavenging of reactive oxygen species, and iron oxide nanoparticles for magnetic resonance imaging contrast. LMCs loaded with CeNPs exhibited strong anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities in vitro. in the rodent iCH model, intracerebraUy injected LMCs reached the peri-hematomal area and were engulfed by macrophages, which were clearly visualized by magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. Moreover, LMCs reduced inflammatory macrophage infiltration, and thus significantly reduced brain edema. Finally, LMC treatment markedly improved neurologic outcomes of the animals with iCH. Thus, LMC is the first nanobiomaterial that successfully showed theragnostic effects in iCH.

Priority-based adaptive transmission algorithm for medical devices in wireless body area networks(WBANs)

A wireless body area network offers cost-effective solutions for healthcare infrastructure. An adaptive transmission algorithm is designed to handle channel efficiency, which adjusts packet size according to the difference in feature-point values that indicate biomedical signal characteristics. Furthermore, we propose a priority-adjustment method that enhances quality of service while guaranteeing signal integrity. A large number of simulations were carried out for performance evaluation. We use electrocardiogram and electromyogram signals as reference biomedical signals for performance verification. From the simulation results, we find that the average packet latency of proposed scheme is enhanced by 30% compared to conventional method. The simulation results also demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves significant performance improvement in terms of drop rates of high-priority packets around 0.3%-0.9 %.

Sulfur utilization improvement and control of dissolved lithium polysulﬁde(LiPS;Li_(2)S x,2ial aspects of the development of lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries,especially in high-loading sulfur elec-trodes and low electrolyte/sulfur(E/S)*** sluggish reaction in the low E/S ratio induces poor LiPS solubility and unstable Li_(2)S electrodeposition,resulting in limited sulfur utilization,especially under high-loading sulfur *** this study,we report on salt concentration effects that improve sulfur utilization with a high-loading cathode(6 mgs ulfurcm^(-2)),a high sulfur content(80 wt%)and a low E/S ratio(5 m L gs ulfur^(-1)).On the basis of the rapid LiPS dissolving in a low concentration electrolyte,we estab-lished that the quantity of Li_(2)S electrodeposition from a high Li+diffusion coefﬁcient,referring to the reduction of LiPS precipitation,was signiﬁcantly enhanced by a faster *** results demonstrate the importance of kinetic factors for the rate capability and cycle life stability of Li-S battery electrolytes through high Li_(2)S deposition under high-loading sulfur electrode.

Geometry effect on mechanical properties of woven fabric composites

The effects of geometry on mechanical properties in woven fabric composites were explored. Two types of composites, including one-layered and two-layered composites, were designed and studied. For one-layered composites, inter-strand gap effects on the mechanical properties were studied, while three cases of geometries with inter-strand gaps in two-layered composites were evaluated. A woven fiber micromechanics analytical model called MESOTEX was employed for theoretical simulation. The predicted results show that the inter-strand gap and simple variation of the strand positions in a repeating unit cell significantly affect the mechanical properties of woven fabric composites.

Neurological disorders including neurodegenerative diseases,brain tumors,and stroke are the second leading cause of death and the greatest cause of disability ***,it remains challenging to achieve effective drug delivery to the central nervous system for treatments of neurological diseases due to the blood-brain barrier(BBB).The function of the BBB is regulated by the physiological interactions between various types of cells in the neurovascular unit(NVU).in the NVU,the brain vasculature of the BBB is surrounded by brain pericytes,brain astrocytes,neurons,and microglia(Figure 1).Moreover,the NVU at the levels of arteries and veins includes contractile smooth muscle cells(Schaeffer and iadecola,2021).

The resveratrol-enriched transgenic rice line iksan526(iS526),first developed by the Rural Development Administration of Korea using genetic engineering techniques,shows beneficial health effects in mitigating metabolic syndrome and ***,the effects of iS526 on the differentiation of chondrocytes and the underlying mechanism have not been investigated in *** this study,the effects and cellular regulatory mechanisms of iS526 on rabbit articular chondrocytes were *** iS526 callus extract treatment,the expression levels of differentiation-related proteins were detected via western blotting,Alcian blue staining and immune-luorescence ***526 decreased the type Ⅱ collagen and proteoglycan levels in dose-and time-dependent *** further analyzed the effects of iS526 on skeleton genesis in zebrafish larvae using Alcian blue staining,which showed a reduction in cartilage formation along with increased production of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-***526 also increased the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and p38 kinase but inhibited the phosphorylation of *** inhibition of MMP-13 blocked the iS526-induced decrease in type Ⅱ collagen *** of p38 kinase or Pi-3K/Akt with SB203580 and LY294002 enhanced the suppression of type Ⅱ collagen,but the blockage of ERK-1/2 by PD98059 rescued iS526-induced *** results suggested that iS526 regulates type Ⅱ collagen and MMP-13 expression via the ERK1/2 and Pi-3K/Akt pathways in rabbit articular chondrocytes.

Recurrent atypical leiomyoma in bladder trigone,confused with uterine fibroids:A case report

BACKGROUND Tumors originating from the posterior bladder wall can be challenging to diagnose because they may mimic a mass from the uterine *** leiomyoma of the bladder trigone is extremely rare,with few reported cases,and requires caution during surgery to avoid damage to the adjacent *** surgery and confirmational pathology are essential to assess whether the tumor is malignant and relieve clinical ***,we describe a case of recurrent leiomyoma with focal atypia in the bladder *** SUMMARY A 29-year-old woman with a uterine fibroid incidentally found at a regular checkup was referred to our *** on magnetic resonance imaging,either urinary bladder leiomyoma or protrusion of pedunculated uterine cervical fibroid into the bladder was *** leiomyoma in the trigone of the bladder was completely excised by laparotomy,and the patient was discharged without ***-up outpatient ultrasonography identified tumor recurrence after four *** focal atypia was identified previously,laparotomy was performed to confirm the pathology.A round solid mass was resected from the posterior bladder wall without injuring either ureteric *** tumor was pathologically diagnosed as a leiomyoma without ***-year follow-up ultrasonography has revealed no *** Atypical leiomyoma in bladder trigone is rare and could be easily mistaken for fibroid in the uterine *** confirm histopathology,surgical excision is mandatory and regular follow-up is necessary to detect recurrence.

Geometrical and Geotechnical Characteristics of Landslides in Korea under Various Geological Conditions

The goal of this study is to determine the geometrical and geotechnical characteristics of landslides under various geological conditions using detailed field surveys, laboratory soil tests and precipitation records. Three study areas are selected to consider different rocks, including gneiss in Jangheung, granite in Sangju and sedimentary rocks in Pohang, South Korea. Many landslides have occurred in these three areas during the rainy *** records indicate that landslides occurring in the gneiss area of Jangheung and granite area of Sangju may be influenced by the hourly rainfall intensity rather than cumulative ***, landslides occurring in the sedimentary rock area of Pohang may be influenced by hourly rainfall intensity and cumulative rainfall. To investigate the factors that influence these types of landslides, a detailed landslide survey was performed and a series of laboratory soil tests were *** to the detailed field survey, most landslides occurred on the flanks of mountain slopes, and the slope inclination where they occurred mostly ranged from 26 to 30 degrees, regardless of the geological conditions. The landslide in the gneiss area of Jangheung is larger than the landslides in the granite area of Sangju and sedimentary rock area of ***, the landslide in the sedimentary rock area is shorter and shallower than the landslides in the gneiss and granite areas. Thus, the shape and size of the landslide are clearly related to the geological conditions. According to the integrated soil property and landslide occurrence analyses results, the average dry unit weight of the soils from the landslide sites is smaller than that of the soils obtained from the nonlandslide site. The average coefficient of permeability of soils obtained from the landslide sites is greater than that of soils obtained from the non-landslide sites with the same geology.
