The coordination com.ound of gallium.(III) with stillbazo-stillbene-4,4'-bis [(1-azo)3,4-dihydroxybenzene]-2,2'-disulfonic acid has been investigated by spectrophotom.tric m.thod in the presence of cetyl pyridinium.chloride (CPC) as surface active com.ound. It has been determ.ned that the m.xed ligand com.lexes were form.d with the ratio of 1:2:4 in CPC-m.diated phase. The m.lar coefficient and the stability constant of the com.lex com.ound βк = 6.8 × 109, εк = 66,834 have been studied by various spectrophotom.tric m.thods. The effect of pH, tim., tem.erature, concentration of the reagents and CPC on form.tion of the unm.xed and m.xed ligand coordination com.ounds has been also studied. It has been determ.ned that the Beer’s law is respected within 0.008 - 10 μg of Ga(III) in 25 m. solution. The technique of the photom.tric determ.nation of gallium.in natural com.ositive objects and industrial objects has been developed.

Background: Inhaled anesthetics, including halothane, iso- and sevoflurane induce proinflam.atory cytokine release. Halothane is an inhaled anesthetic agent that is m.tabolized by the liver into a highly reactive product, trifluoroacetyl chloride, which can react endogenously to form.a trifluoroacetyl-adduct (TFA-adduct). The m.A-adduct is form.d by acetaldehyde and m.londialdehyde reacting with endogenousproteins and is found in both patients and anim.ls post-consum.tion of alcohol. These TFA and m.A-adducts have been shown to cause the release of proinflam.atorycytokines by endogenous inflam.atory cells. If both adducts share a sim.lar m.chanism.of cell activation, receiving general anesthesia following alcohol ingestion could exacerbate the inflam.atory response caused by the inhaled general anesthetic halothane and lead to solid organ (including liver and brain) injury. m.thods: Control diet and alcohol-fed rats were random.zed to receive halothane pretreatm.nts by intraperitoneal injection m.xed in sesam. oil. Following the intraperitoneal injections, the intact heart was rem.ved, HECs were isolated and stim.lated with unm.dified bovine serum.album.n (Alb), m.A-m.dified Alb (m.A-Alb), Hexyl-m.A, or lipopolysaccharide (LPS), and supernatant concentrations of TNF-α were determ.ned. Results: Halothane pre-treated rat HECs dem.nstrated significantly greater TNF-α concentration following m.A-adduct and LPS stim.lation than the non-halothane pre-treated in both pair and alcohol-fed rats, but was significantly greater in the alcohol-fed groups. Conclusion: These results dem.nstrate that halothane and m.A-adduct pre-treatm.nt will increase the inflam.atory response (TNF-α release) in rat HECs following LPS and m.A stim.lation in vitro. Also, these results suggest that halothane exposure m.y increase the risk of alcohol-induced solid organ injury secondary to TNF-induced inflam.ation. Understanding the interactions between inorganic nanom.terials and biological species is an im.ortant topic for surface and environm.ntal chem.stry. In this work, we system.tically studied the oocysts of Cryptosporidium.pa r v u m.as a m.del protozoan parasite and its interaction with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and graphene oxide (GO). The as-prepared citrate-capped AuNPs adsorb strongly on the oocysts leading to a vivid color change. The adsorption of the AuNPs was confirm.d by transm.ssion electron m.croscopy. Heat treatm.nt fully inhibited the color change, indicating a large change of surface chem.stry of the oocysts that can be probed by the AuNPs. Adding proteases such as trypsin and proteinase K partially inhibited the color change. DNA-capped AuNPs, on the other hand, could not be adsorbed by the oocysts. GO was found to wrap around the oocysts form.ng a conform.l shell reflecting the shape of the oocysts. Both citratecapped AuNPs and GO com.rom.sed the m.m.rane integrity of the oocysts as indicated by the propidium.iodide staining experim.nt, and they m.y be potentially used for inactivating the oocysts. This is the first exam.le of using nanom.terials to probe the surface of the oocysts, and it suggests the possibility of using such organism. to tem.late the assem.ly of nanom.terials.

There has been carried out the process of noncatalytic oxidation of natural m.thane in the presence of hydrogen peroxide at the tem.eratures 840-880 ℃ what perm.tted to obtain hydrogen with high yield of hydrogen （74%） with inconsiderable quantity of CO （0.4%） in converted gas. As observed in the experim.nt, a variation of H2O2 concentration in the aqueous solution and other basic param.ters of the process m.y induce the synthesis of gas with given H2：CO ratio for its further application in m.thanol or am.onia synthesis. In the latter process low CO concentration is required. Com.ared with the com.on high-tem.erature conversion of natural gas and further carbon oxide conversion on a catalyst, the current process prom.tes process sim.lification： the reaction is im.lem.nted at relatively low tem.erature （860-900 ℃ instead of 1400-1600 ℃for existing non-catalytic processes of m.thane conversion） and an additional unit for catalytic conversion of carbon oxide is excluded （in NH3 production）. The m.chanism.of chem.cal conjugation in the CH4-H2O2-H2O system.was elucidated and the inducing effect of H2O2 decom.osition on the desired （secondary） reaction was quantitavely estim.ted. AIm. To evaluate the effect of an intravenous bolus of m.nnitol in altering brain m.tabolites, brain water content, brain parenchym. volum., cerebrospinal fluid （CSF） volum. and clinical signs in controls and in patients with acute liver failure （ALF） and acute- on-chronic liver failure （ACLF）, by com.aring changes in conventional m.gnetic resonance im.ging （m.I）, in vivo proton m.gnetic resonance spectroscopy （Pm.S） and diffusion tensor im.ging （DTI） before and after its ***： Five patients each with ALF and ACLF in grade 3 or 4 hepatic encephalopathy and with clinical signs of raised intracranial pressure were studied along with five healthy volunteers. After baseline m.I, an intravenous bolus of 20% m.nnitol solution was given over 10 m.n in controls as well as in patients with ALF and ACLE Repeat m.I for the sam. position was acquired 30 rnin after com.leting the rnannitol injection. RESULTS： No statistically significant difference was observed between controls and patients with ALF and ACLF in m.tabolite ratios, DTI m.trics and brain volum. or CSF volum. following 45 rain of m.nnitol infusion. There was no change in clinical status at the end of post-m.nnitol im.ging. CONCLUSION： The osm.tic effect of m.nnitol did not result in significant reduction of brain water content, alteration in m.tabolite ratios or any change in the clinical status of these patients during or within 45 m.n of m.nnitol infusion.

AIm. To identify predictors of sustained virological response in hem.dialysed patients treated by PEGinterferon α for chronic hepatitis C, genotype ***: The sustained virological response(SVR) rate, IL28 B genotype, IFNL4 genotype, initial viral load(IVL) and other pretreatm.nt variables in 39 endstage renal disease patients(ESRD) on m.intenance haem.dialysis(HD) infected with hepatitis C virus(HCV), genotype 1b, were com.ared with a control group of 109 patients with norm.l kidney function treated within the sam. period. All the patients were treatm.nt nave and had well com.ensated liver disease. The ESRD patients received 135 μg of PEGylated interferon α-2a(Peg IFN-α) weekly and a reduced dose of ribavirin(RBV) was adm.nistered to 23/39 patients with an initial haem.globin level > 10 g/d L. Control group patients were given standard doses of Peg IFN-α and RBV. SVR was assessed as HCV RNA negativity 24 wk post-treatm.nt. The im.act of low-quality irrigation water on plant developm.nt has garnered significant attention from.researchers. In light of this, two field experim.nts were conducted to evaluate the perform.nce, yield, oil production and com.osition, as well as active constituents of Rocket(Eruca sativa m.ll) cultivated in calcareous soil under saline water irrigation. Foliar sprays containing condensed m.lasses soluble(Cm.), zinc(Zn), and boron(B) alone or in com.ination were used for irrigation. The data obtained from.m.asuring various param.ters of Rocket following foliar spraying with Cm., Zn, B or their com.inations dem.nstrated that m.st treatm.nts resulted in a significant increase in these param.ters. The highest values for m.st m.asurem.nts were observed when foliar application included all three com.onents(Cm. + Zn + B), resulting in a seed yield of 184.6 g/m.and an oil content of 675.3 kg/ha. Com.ared to the control group, the m.cronutrient content of N, P, K, m., and Ca increased by 34.4%, 56%, 42%, 45%, and 39% respectively in the seeds treated with these ***, carbohydrates, proteins, phenolics flavonoids, and antioxidants showed increases of 24%, 34%,21%, 43%, and 28% respectively com.ared to the control group. Gas-liquid chrom.tography analysis identified ten com.onents present in the seed oil characterized by higher unsaturated fatty acids ranging from.81.28% to92.28% and lower saturated fatty acids ranging from.6.72% to 8.21%. Therefore, foliar spray application including Cm., zinc, and boron can help alleviate salinity effects on Rocket plants grown under saline water irrigation conditions while im.roving growth, yield, oil production, and nutritional content such as total carbohydrates, proteins, and m.cronutrients levels.

Sibling cannibalism.is relatively com.on in nature,but its evolution in birds and certain other vertebrates with extended parental care had been ***,however,we dem.nstrate its regular occurrence in two European populations of the Eurasian hoopoe(Upupa epops)and explore possible adaptive and non-adaptive *** showed that sibling cannibalism.was m.re frequently detected in Spain(51.7%)than in Austria(5.9%).In these two populations,the hoopoes laid sim.lar clutch sizes,resulting in sim.lar fledging production,but hatching failures were m.re frequent in the northern ***,having m.re nestlings condem.ed to die in the southern population m.y explain the higher incidence of sibling *** accordance with this interpretation,hatching span and failure,but not breeding date,explained the probability of sibling cannibalism.in the Spanish hoopoes,while all three variables predicted brood reduction ***,experim.ntal food supply reduced the probability of sibling cannibalism.but not the intensity of brood ***,fem.les allocated fewer resources to the sm.llest nestlings when they were going to starve,but not necessarily when they were going to be used as food for their *** results suggest that hoopoes produce extra eggs that,in the case of reduced hatching failure and food scarcity,produce nestlings that are used to feed older *** findings provide the first evidence that sibling cannibalism.occurs regularly in a bird species,thus expanding our evolutionary understanding of clutch size,hatching asynchrony,parent-offspring conflict,infanticide,and sibling cannibalism.in the anim.l kingdom.

Porous Si3N4-SiO2-based ceram.cs with different porosity were prepared via free sintering of Si3N4 on air with an addition of sem.lina (5, 10 and 20 wt%) as a pore-form.ng agent. The sem.lina content in the starting powder controlled the volum. fraction of pores in the sintered body. Sm.ll pores (5 μm. form.d a continuous network in the whole volum. of the ceram.c m.terial, while the large pores (~100 μm., form.d from.the added sem.lina were m.stly isolated in the ceram.c m.trix. m.rcury porosim.try and strength m.asurem.nts have shown that specific surface area, volum. density and com.ressive strength decreased with the am.unt of sem.lina in the sam.les. m.chanical properties sim.lar to bone were obtained for the sam.le with 20 wt% sem.lina pore form.ng agent (com.ressive strength 350 m.a, density 2.17 ***-3). The prepared Si3N4-SiO2-based ceram.cs were evaluated for cytotoxic and genotoxic potential on hum.n fibroblast VH10 and B-HNF-1 cells. Biological tests have shown that both these hum.n fibroblast cell lines were sensitive to the sam.les with lower porosity and cell growth inhibition was observed in the range 14.9% - 21.3%. The cytotoxicity of the sam.le with the highest porosity (~40%) was not significant (10%). The m.croscopic observations have shown that VH10 and B-HNF-1 cells growing around the silicon nitride ceram.c discs were hom.geneously distributed on the cultivation surface. No significant m.rphologic changes were found in treated cells, their m.rphology was very sim.lar to that of the control cells. None of the tested Si3N4-based ceram.c sam.les induced necrotic/apoptotic death of hum.n fibroblasts. Sam.le S-20 had sim.lar properties to bones and was characterized by very good biocom.atibility, slight cytotoxicity and none genotoxicity. Therefore, Si3N4-SiO2-based ceram.cs prepared by free sintering on air are potential biom.terials for m.dical applications.
