We fabricate Schottky contact photodetectors based on electrically contacted Au nanoantennas on p-Si for the plasmonic detection of sub-bandgap photons in the optical communications wavelength range. Based on a physical model for the internal photoemission of hot carriers, photons coupled onto the Au nanoantennas excite resonant plasmons, which decay into energetic ＂hot＂ holes emitted over the Schottky barrier at the Au/p-Si interface, resulting in a photocurrent. In our device, the active Schottky area consists of Au/p-Si contact and is very small, whereas the probing pad for external electrical interconnection is larger but consists of Au/Ti/p-Si contact having a comparatively higher Schottky barrier, thus producing negligible photo and dark *** describe fabrication that involves an electron-beam lithography step overlaid with photolithography. This highly compact component is very promising for applications in high-density Si photonics.

Over the last few decades, several all-optical circuits have been proposed to meet the need of high-speed data processing. In some information processing architectures, the role of various analog and digital data comparisons is very important. In this letter, we proposed a multi-bit data comparison scheme. The scheme is based on the switching property of optical nonlinear material. Ultrafast operational speed larger than gigahertz can be expected from this all-optical scheme.

Atmospheric pressure air/Ar/H_2O gliding arc discharge plasma is produced by a pulsed dc power supply. An optical emission spectroscopic（OES） diagnostic technique is used for the characterization of plasmas and for identifications of OH and O radicals along with other species in the plasmas. The OES diagnostic technique reveals the excitation Tx？≈？5550–9000 K, rotational Tr？≈？1350–2700 K and gas Tg？≈？850–1600 K temperatures, and electron density n？（1.1-1.9） ′101 4 cm^（-3） e under different experimental conditions. The production and destruction of OH and O radicals are investigated as functions of applied voltage and air flow rate. Relative intensities of OH and O radicals indicate that their production rates are increased with increasing Ar content in the gas mixture and applied voltage. nereveals that the higher densities of OH and O radicals are produced in the discharge due to more effective electron impact dissociation of H_2O and O_2 molecules caused by higher kinetic energies as gained by electrons from the enhanced electric field as well as by enhanced n *** productions of OH and O are decreasing with increasing air flow rate due to removal of Joule heat from the discharge region but enhanced air flow rate significantly modifies discharge maintenance properties. Besides, Tgsignificantly reduces with the enhanced air flow rate. This investigation reveals that Ar plays a significant role in the production of OH and O radicals.

Granulation is a key process in several industries like pharmaceutical, food, fertilizer, agrochemicals, etc. Population balance modeling has been used extensively for modeling agglomeration in many systems such as crystallization, aerosols, pelletisation, etc. The key parameter is the coalescence kernel, β（ij） which dictates the overall rate of coalescence as well as the effect of granule size on coalescence rate. Adetayo, Litster, Pratsinis, and Ennis （1995） studied fertilizer granulation with a broad size distribution and modeled it with a two-stage kernel. A constant kernel can be applied to those granules which coalesce successfully. The coalescence model gives conditions for two types of coalescence, Type I and II. A twostage kernel, which is necessary to model granule size distribution over a wide size distribution, is applied in the present fluidized bed spray granulation process. The first stage is size-independent and non-inertial regime, and is followed by a size-dependent stage in which collisions between particles are non-random, i.e. inertial regime. The present work is focused on the second stage kernel where the feed particles of volume i and j collide and form final granule ij instead of i ＋j （Adetayo et al., 1995） which gives a wider particle size distribution of granules than proposed earlier.

Nanofluids are considered as interesting alternatives to conventional coolants. It is well known that traditional fluids have limited heat transfer capabilities when compared to common metals. It is therefore quite conceivable that a small amount of extremely fine metallic particles placed in suspension in traditional fluids will considerably increase their heat transfer performances. A numerical investigation into the heat transfer enhancement capabilities of coolants with suspended metallic nanoparticles inside a radial, laminar flow cooling configuration is presented. Temperature dependant nanofluid properties are evaluated from experimental data available in recent literature. Results indicate that considerable heat transfer increases are possible with the use of relatively small volume fractions of nanoparticles. Generally, however, these are accompanied by considerable increases in wall shear-stress. Results also show that predictions obtained with temperature variable nanofluid properties yield greater heat transfer capabilities and lower wall shear stresses when compared to predictions using constant properties.

Steel industries are a major contributor to aerosols in steel cities like Rourkela. We designed an air quality sampling program to characterize total suspended particulate （TSP） aerosol in urban areas of Rourkela and to identify their steel-related and other sources. Monitoring was carried out over 8 h, twice per week from January 2011 to December 2012. Metallic species of TSP aerosols were analyzed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer; ionic species using the IS 3025 method; and carbonaceous species using a total organic carbon analyzer. Enrichment factor and Spearman＇s rank correlation analysis were carried out on compositional data. Significant seasonal variations were observed for TSP with totals in sum- mer 〉 spring 〉 winter 〉 monsoon. Low concentrations during monsoon reflected wet scavenging, while high concentrations during summer were related to wind turbulence and low humidity. The chemical mass balance model CMB8.2 was applied to apportion sources. Particles related to steel production, road dust, and soil were dominant in all seasons. A fertilizer plant was found to contribute particles in summer and monsoon. Wood combustion, diesel exhaust, and liquefied petroleum gas contributed significantly in spring and winter. While diesel exhaust, industrial manufacturing, solid waste burning, cement kilns, and construction were found to contribute to TSP at various times throughout the year.

In granulation, fine particles combine to form a coarse granule in the form of a particle matrix partially or fully saturated with a binder liquid. The final product of granulation possesses a wide variety of granule size distributions with surface mean diameters which differ with operating conditions. The final granule size depends on the operating conditions, e.g. operating gas velocity, inlet air temperature, initial feed particle size, and viscosity of the binder. The objective of this paper is to find out the uniformity in the relation between the granule mass fraction in the final granule size distribution and the number of feed particles present in the granules. The total number of granules obtained depends on the experimental conditions but the granule mass fraction and the number of feed particles forming a single granule are independent of operating variables, feed material and method of granulation. The paper purports further to compare the uniform nature of mass fraction of the granules in final granule size distribution and the primary particles required to form that particular granule size irrespective of experimental conditions of granulation.

The present research introduces a unique concept of scarf joint technique in friction stir welding(FSW) of aluminum alloy AA 6061-T6 plates and an investigation on weld quality.A new joint configuration with two distinct scarf angles(75°and 60°) was considered in this *** various aspects of welding were compared with contemporary simple square butt(SSB) joint *** was carried out at a constant tool rotation speed(TRS),tool traverse speed(TTS) and tool tilt angle of 1100 rpm,2 mm/s and2°,*** results are analyzed in terms of force and torque distribution,microstructure,macrostructure,and mechanical property perspective for different joint *** study reveals the minimum amount of force and torque at 60°scarf angle joint configuration compared to that of square butt joint *** study shows that all the joints were defect-free,and a prominent onion ring was present in the lower portion of the weld nugget(WN).Fine equiaxed grains with a minimum average grain size diameter of 6.82 μm were obtained in the WN of scarf joint configuration(SJC).The maximum ultimate tensile strength(UTS) and maximum average NZ hardness of 267 MPa and83.82 HV0.1were obtained in SJC3 at a scarf angle of 60°.It has been observed from the investigation that the joint efficiency increases from 72.5%(SSB) to 86%(SJC3) at a 60° scarf *** unique characteristic may lay an impetus on probable joint strength enhancement technique without increasing the production cost.
