Periodontitis-induced systemic inflammation exacerbates atherosclerosis partly via endothelial–mesenchymal transition in mice

Growing evidence suggests close associations between periodontitis and *** further understand the pathological relationships of these associations,we developed periodontitis with ligature placement around maxillary molars or ligature placement in conjunction with Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide injection at the ligature sites (ligature/***) in Apolipoprotein E knock out mice and studied the atherogenesis process in these *** mice were fed with high fat diet for 11 weeks and sacrificed for analyzing periodontitis,systemic inflammation,and *** did not develop periodontitis or systemic inflammation and had minimal lipid deposition in the aortas,but mice receiving ligature or ligature/*** showed severe periodontitis,systemic inflammation,and aortic plaque *** aortic plaque contained abundant macrophages and cells expressing both endothelial and mesenchymal cell *** severity of periodontitis was slightly higher in mice receiving ligature/*** than ligature alone,and the magnitude of systemic inflammation and aortic plaque formation were also notably greater in the mice with ligature/*** observations indicate that the development of atherosclerosis is due to systemic inflammation caused by severe *** vitro,*** enhanced the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines from macrophages and increased the adhesion of monocytes to endothelial cells by upregulating the expression of adhesion molecules from endothelial ***,secretory proteins,such as TNF-α,from macrophages induced endothelial–mesenchymal transitions of the endothelial *** together,systemic inflammation induced by severe periodontitis might exacerbate atherosclerosis via,in part,causing aberrant functions of vascular endothelial cells and the activation of macrophages in mice.

Unified deep learning model for El Niño/Southern Oscillation forecasts by incorporating seasonality in climate data

Although deep learning has achieved a milestone in forecasting the El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO),the current models are insufficient to simulate diverse characteristics of the ENSO,which depends on the calendar ***,a model was generated for specific seasons which indicates these models did not consider physical constraints between different target seasons and forecast lead times,thereby leading to arbitrary fluctuations in the predicted time *** overcome this problem and account for ENSO seasonality,we developed an all-season convolutional neural network(A_CNN)*** correlation skill of the ENSO index was particularly improved for forecasts of the boreal spring,which is the most challenging season to ***,activation map values indicated a clear time evolution with increasing forecast lead *** study findings reveal the comprehensive role of various climate precursors of ENSO events that act differently over time,thus indicating the potential of the A_CNN model as a diagnostic tool.

BACKGROUNDAutonomic dysreflexia (AD) can be a life-threatening condition in patients withspinal cord injury. It is important to prevent bladder overdistension in thesepatients as it may trigger AD. Sensation-dependent bladder emptying (SDBE), asa method of bladder management, improves the quality of life and allowsphysiologic voiding. In this study, we report disruption of the SDBE habit afterbladder overdistension leading to AD with chest *** SUMMARYA 47-year-old male with a diagnosis of C4 American Spinal Cord InjuryAssociation impairment scale A had been emptying his bladder using the cleanintermittent catheterization method with an itchy sensation in the nose as asensory indication for a full bladder for 23 years, and the usual urine volume wasabout 300-400 mL. At the time of this study, the patient had delayed catheterizationfor approximately five hours. He developed severe abdominal pain andheadache and had to visit the emergency room for bladder overdistension (800mL) and a high systolic blood pressure (205 mmHg). After control of AD, ahypersensitive bladder was observed despite using anticholinergic agents. Thesensation indicating bladder fullness changed from nose itching to pain in theabdomen and precordial area. Moreover, the volume of the painful bladder fillingsensation became highly variable and was noted when the bladder urine volumeexceeded only 100 mL. The patient refused intermittent clean catheterization Finally, a cystostomy was performed, which relieved the *** using physiologic feedback, such as SDBE, for bladder management arerecommended to avoid bladder overdistension.

Chlorophyll （Chl） degradation causes leaf yellowing during senescence or under stress conditions. For Chl breakdown, STAY-GREEN1 （SGR1） interacts with Chl catabolic enzymes （CCEs） and light-harvesting complex II （LHCII） at the thylakoid membrane, possibly to allow metabolic channeling of potentially phototoxic Chl breakdown intermediates. Among these Chl catabolic components, SGR1 acts as a key regulator of leaf yellowing. In addition to SGR1 （At4g22920）, the Arabidopsis thaliana genome contains an additional homolog, SGR2 （At4g11910）, whose biological function remains elusive. Under senescence-inducing conditions, SGR2 expression is highly up-regulated, similarly to SGR1 expression. Here we show that SGR2 function counteracts SGR1 activity in leaf Chl degradation; SGR2-overexpressing plants stayed green and the sgr2-1 knockout mutant exhibited early leaf yellowing under age-, dark-, and stress-induced senescence conditions. Like SGR1, SGR2 interacted with LHCII but, in contrast to SGR1, SGR2 interactions with CCEs were very limited. Furthermore, SGR1 and SGR2 formed homo- or heterodimers, strongly suggesting a role for SGR2 in negatively regulat- ing Chl degradation by possibly interfering with the proposed CCE-recruiting function of SGR1. Our data indicate an antagonistic evolution of the functions of SGR1 and SGR2 in Arabidopsis to balance Chl catabolism in chloroplasts with the dismantling and remobilizing of other cellular components in senescing leaf cells.

BACKGROUND Immunoglobulin G4-related disease(IgG4-RD)is a complex immune-mediated condition that causes fibrotic inflammation in several organs.A significant clinical feature of IgG4-RD is hypertrophic pachymeningitis,which manifests as inflammation of the dura mater in intracranial or spinal *** IgG4-RD can affect multiple areas,the spine is a relatively rare site compared to the more frequent involvement of intracranial *** SUMMARY A 70-year-old male presented to our hospital with a two-day history of fever,altered mental status,and generalized *** initial brain magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)revealed multiple small infarcts across various cerebral *** the second day after admission,a physical examination revealed motor weakness in both lower extremities and diminished sensation in the right lower *** evaluation revealed findings consistent with acute motor sensory *** initial management with intravenous immunoglobulin for presumed Guillain-Barrésyndrome,the patient exhibited progressive worsening of motor *** the 45th day of hospitalization,an enhanced MRI of the entire spine,focusing specifically on the thoracic 9 to lumbar 1 vertebral level,raised the suspicion of IgG4-related spinal ***,the patient was administered oral prednisolone and participated in a comprehensive rehabilitation program that included gait training and lower extremity strengthening *** IgG4-related spinal pachymeningitis,diagnosed on MRI,was treated with corticosteroids and a structured rehabilitation regimen,leading to significant improvement.

Microstructure and texture evolution of Ti-Nb-Si based alloys for biomedical applications

Microstructure and texture of Ti-Nb-Si based alloys, prepared by water quenching from β-phase field, cold rolling and recrystallization heat treatment followed by water quenching, were investigated in terms of optical microstructure and analysis of X-ray pole figure result. In as-quenched sample, relatively random distribution of pole figure was detected without showing a specific texture component. In as-cold rolled sample, however, it is found well-developed several texture components consisting of rotated cube, α-fiber and γ-fiber texture components which are frequently observed in bcc-structured metals and alloys were found. Therefore, texture components developed in the present alloys are closely related to the deformation of β-phase even though small amount of α″ phase co-exist in the microstructure. In recrystallized sample, α-fiber texture component is weakly detected while the other texture components, rotated cube and γ-fiber components, appears to be relatively unchanged. No additional texture components were detected besides those texture components observed in the cold rolled samples.

In this study,a CO_(2) capture material in the form of liquid-like adsorbents(LLAs) is developed to overcome the limitations of conventional types of *** increase in indoor activities necessitates the capture of CO_(2) in enclosed indoor *** spaces require safe and stable materials for CO_(2) capture because humans are present in these *** adsorbents are mainly used because liquid absorbents are unsuitable owing to noise and scattering *** LLA,the liquid absorbent assembled by carbon nanotubes(CNTs) is solidified and prevented from flowing and scattering *** present to maintain 95% of initial capacity after recycling 20 times,and have characteristics that can be regenerated in a low temperature heat source(80 to 120℃) and moisture *** work not only provides indoor useable CO_(2) capture materials,but also offers a new prospect in the field of adsorbents.
