It is being increasingly acknowledged that immune cells depend on certain metabolic traits to perform their functions and that the extracellular environment can influence cell metabolism and vice *** cell(DC)subsets traffic through highly diverse environments from the bone marrow,where they develop,to the various peripheral tissues,where they differentiate and capture antigens,before they migrate to the lymph node to present antigens and prime T *** is plausible that DC subsets modulate their stimulatory abilities in response to unique metabolic *** metabolic requirements of DCs are just recently being discovered,and subset-and context-specific metabolic phenotypes in DCs are highly intertwined with DC *** this review,we present the current knowledge on the intrinsic and extrinsic determinants of DC metabolism,how they regulate DC function with examples from tumor biology and in interaction with the microbiota,and discuss how this can be applied therapeutically.

The CXC chemokine CXCL12 is an important factor in physiological and pathological processes, includingembryogenesis, hematopoiesis, angiogenesis and inflammation, because it activates and/or induces migration ofhematopoietic progenitor and stem cells, endothelial cells and most leukocytes. Therefore, CXCL12 activity istightly regulated at multiple levels. CXCL12 has the unique property of existing in six splice variants in humans,each having a specific tissue distribution and in vivo activity. Controlled splice variant transcription and mRNAstability determine the CXCL12 expression profile. CXCL12 fulfills its functions in homeostatic and pathologicalconditions by interacting with its receptors CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) and atypical chemokine receptor 3(ACKR3) and by binding to glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in tissues and on the endothelium to allow a properpresentation to passing leukocytes. Homodimerizaton and heterodimerization of CXCL12 and its receptors can altertheir signaling activity, as exemplified by the synergy between CXCL12 and other chemokines in leukocyte migrationassays. Receptor binding may also initiate CXCL12 internalization and its subsequent removal from theenvironment. Furthermore, CXCL12 activity is regulated by posttranslational modifications. Proteolytic removal ofNH2- or COOH-terminal amino acids, citrullination of arginine residues by peptidyl arginine deiminases or nitrationof tyrosine residues reduce CXCL12 activity. This review summarizes the interactions of CXCL12 with the cellularenvironment and discusses the different levels of CXCL12 activity regulation.

Mastitis is a complex, multifactorial disease. Pathogens, cows and farmers （via management） all play a role. It is costly and annoying for the farmer and threatens the image of the entire dairy industry. Prevention and control of mastitis is based on multiple principles that have been known for a long time. To implement them successfully, they should be put forward by a motivated and motivating advisor that transfers the existing knowledge to the farmer. When the changes are data-driven, applied by an encouraged farmer through a farm-specific implementation, prevention and control of mastitis will be successful and result in happy cows, happy farmers, happy advisors, happy consumers, and a happy industry. Nationwide projects focussing on communication and transfer of existing knowledge in prevention and control are very helpful in reaching high numbers of farmers and advisors and harmonizing the message brought by different parties. This paper gives an overview of multifactorial approach of mastitis management and prevention with a focus on milking, bedding and data-analysis.

Background:Decaffeinated green tea extract(dGTE)can increase fat oxidation during leg exercise,but dGTE is unsuitable for many people(e.g.,those with injuries/disabilities),and its effects on arm exercise and women are ***:Eight adults(23-37 years old,4 women)performed an incremental arm cycle test to measure peak oxygen uptake(VO_(2_(peak))),followed by four 1-h trials at 50%VO_(2_(peak).Subjects were randomly assigned to 650 mg of dGTE or placebo(PLA)for 4 weeks followed by a 4-week washout and crossover *** samples were obtained pre-exercise and post-exercise for glycerol and free fatty acid *** gases were collected ***:VO_(2) showed no differences across trials((0.83-0.89)±(0.19-0.25)L/min,p=0.460),neither did energy expenditure((264-266)±(59-77)kcal,p=0.420)nor fat oxidation(dGTE=0.11 to 0.12 g/min ***=0.10 to 0.09 g/min,p=0.220).Fat oxidation as percentage of energy expenditure was not different for dGTE ***(23%±12%to 25%±11%vs.23%±10%to 21%±9%,p=0.532).Glycerol concentration increased post-exercise in all trials,independent of treatments(pre=(3.4-5.1)±(0.6-2.6)mg/dL ***=(7.9-9.8)±(2.6-3.7)mg/dL,p=0.867,η^(2)=0.005 for interaction),as did free fatty acid((3.5-4.8)±(1.4-2.2)mg/dL vs.(7.2-9.1)±(2.6-4.5)mg/dL,p=0.981,η^(2)=0.000).Conclusion:Chronic dGTE supplementation had no effect on lipolysis and fat oxidation during arm cycle exercise in men and women.

Low energy consumption is one of the main challenges for wireless video transmission on battery limited devices. The energy invested at the lower layers of the protocol stack involved in data communication, such as link and physical layer, represent an important part of the total energy consumption. This communication energy highly depends on the channel conditions and on the transmission data rate. Traditionally, video coding is unaware of varying channel conditions. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer approach in which the rate control mechanism of the video codec becomes channel-aware and steers the instantaneous output rate according to the channel conditions to reduce the communication energy. Our results show that energy savings of up to30% can be obtained with a reduction of barely 0.1 dB on the average video quality. The impact of feedback delays is shown to be small. In addition, this adaptive mechanism has low complexity, which makes it suitable for real-time applications.

Patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia(PCD)and cystic fibrosis(CF),two inherited disorders,suffer from recurrent airway infections characterized by persistent bacterial colonization and uncontrollable *** present in high counts,neutrophils fail to clear infection in the *** levels of C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 8/interleukin-8(CXCL8/IL-8),the most potent chemokine to attract neutrophils to sites of infection,are detected in the sputum of both patient groups and might cause the high neutrophil influx in the ***,in CF,airway neutrophils are highly activated because of the genetic defect and the high levels of proinflammatory chemoattractants and cytokines(e.g.,CXCL8/IL-8,tumor necrosis factor-αand IL-17).The overactive state of neutrophils leads to lung damage and fuels the vicious circle of infection,excessive inflammation and tissue *** inflammatory process in CF airways is well characterized,whereas the lung pathology in PCD is far less *** knowledge of CF lung pathology could be useful to guide molecular investigations of the inflammatory processes in PCD *** available therapies can not completely remedy the chronic airway infections in these *** review gives an overview of the role that chemoattractants and cytokines play in these neutrophil-dominated lung ***,the most frequently applied treatments in CF and PCD and new experimental therapies to reduce neutrophil-dominated airway inflammation are described.

This paper introduces a video application-aware cross-layer framework for joint performance-energy optimization,considering the scenario of multiple users upstreaming real-time Motion JPEG2000 video streams to the access point of a WiFi wireless local area network and extends the PHY-MAC run-time cross-layer scheduling strategy that we introduced in (Mangharam et al., 2005; Pollin et al., 2005) to also consider congested network situations where video packets have to be dropped. We show that an optimal solution at PHY-MAC level can be highly suboptimal at application level, and then show that making the cross-layer framework application-aware through a prioritized dropping policy capitalizing on the inherent scalability of Motion JPEG2000 video streams leads to drastic average video quality improvements and inter-user quality variation reductions of as much as 10 dB PSNR, without affecting the overall energy consumption requirements.

BACKGROUND Bouveret´s syndrome is defined as a gastric outlet obstruction after passage of a gallstone through a fistula into the *** to its rarity,the diagnosis of Bouveret’s syndrome is often delayed and causes a high morbidity and mortality *** SUMMARY A 93-year-old female presented with worsening pain in the right upper abdomen and vomiting.A gastroscopy revealed fluid retention caused by a massive obstructive stone in the *** laser lithotripsy of the impacted stone was planned after multidisciplinary consultation.A Dornier Medilas H Solvo lithotripsy 350μm laser fiber(10 Hz,2 Joules)was used to disintegrate the stone into smaller *** patient recovered *** A mechanical obstruction due to a gallstone that has entered the gastrointestinal tract is a complication that appears in 0.3%-0.5%of patients who have *** larger than 2 cm can become impacted in the digestive tract,which occurs mostly in the terminal *** approximately 1%-3%of cases,the stones cause obstruction in the *** phenomenon is called Bouveret’s *** this condition is mostly observed in elderly individuals with multiple comorbidities,treatment by an open surgical approach is *** removal is the preferred *** benefit of using laser lithotripsy is the precise targeting of energy onto the stone with minimal tissue *** laser lithotripsy is a safe and feasible treatment option for Bouveret’s syndrome.
