In-situ alloy developm.nt during surface processing allows for a lim.tless m.terials selection to protect com.onents exposed to severe service conditions. In fact surface alloying offers the possibility to strengthen surface com.onents with alloys that would not be possible to process otherwise. This work used Plasm. transferred arc (PTA) hardfacing for surface alloying. Different am.unts of alum.nium.powder, 5-25%, were added to a Ni based superalloy, from.Hastealloy C fam.ly, in the atom.zed form. The m.xture was hom.geneized in a ball m.ll and PTA deposited on carbon steel substrate. The influence of different processing param.ters on the final surface alloy was evaluated as current intensity and depositing velocity were varied. Coatings were characterized by optical and scanning electronic m.croscopy, X-ray diffraction and Vickers m.crohardness profiles, under a 500g load. Results showed that PTA hardfacing is an adequate surface alloying. For the conditions tested increasing hardness was obtained by solid solution for the lower am.unts of Al added and due to the new interm.tallic phases for the richer Al m.xture.

Different light wavelengths have specific effects on plant growth and ***-bandwidth light-em.tting diode(LED)lighting m.y be used to directionally m.nipulate size,color and m.tabolites in high-value fruits and *** this report,Red Russian kale(Brassica napus)seedlings were grown under specific light conditions and analyzed for photom.rphogenic responses,pigm.nt accum.lation and nutraceutical *** results showed that this genotype responds predictably to darkness,blue and red light,with suppression of hypocotyl elongation,developm.nt of pigm.nts and changes in specific ***,these seedlings were relatively hypersensitive to far-red light,leading to uncharacteristically short hypocotyls and high pigm.nt accum.lation,even after growth under very low fluence rates(,1 m.ol m.(-2) s^(-1)).General antioxidant levels and aliphatic glucosinolates are elevated by far-red light *** treatm.nts of darkness,blue light,red light and far-red light were applied throughout sprout developm.nt to alter final product *** results indicate that sequential treatm.nt with narrow-bandwidth light m.y be used to affect key econom.cally im.ortant traits in high-value crops.

Various studies have shown the interplay between the intestinal m.crobiom.,environm.ntal factors,and genetic changes in colorectal cancer(CRC)*** this review,we highlight the various gut and oral m.crobiota associated with CRC and colorectal adenom.s,and their proposed m.lecular m.chanism. in relation to the processes of“the hallm.rks of cancer”,and differences in m.crobial diversity and abundance between race/*** with CRC showed increased levels of Bacteroides,Prevotella,Escherichia coli,enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis,Streptococcus gallolyticus,Enterococcus faecalis,Fusobacterium.nucleatum.***)and Clostridium.*** levels of Bacteroides have been found in African Am.rican(AA)com.ared to Caucasian Am.rican(CA)***-inflam.atory bacteria such as *** and Enterobacter species were significantly higher in ***,AA patients have been shown to have decreased m.crobial diversity com.ared to CA *** studies have shown that using m.crobiom. profiles in conjunction with certain risk factors such as age,race and body m.ss index m.y help predict healthy colon vs one with adenom.s or *** is one of the m.st com.on bacterial infections in hum.ns and is m.re prevalent in Non-Hispanic-Blacks as com.ared to Non-Hispanic *** condition causes increased system.c inflam.ation,im.une dysregulation,gut m.crobiota dysbiosis and thereby possibly influencing colorectal ***-associated bacteria such as Fusobacterium.Prevotella,Bacteroides and Porphyrom.nas have been found in CRC tissues and in feces of CRC ***,a deeper understanding of the association between oral and gastrointestinal bacterial profile,in addition to identifying prevalent bacteria in patients with CRC and the differences observed in ethnicity/race,m.y play a pivotal role in predicting incidence,prognosis,and lead to the developm.nt of new treatm.nts.

Degradation phenom.na like wear and corrosion, m.y have their effects accelerated as com.onents operate at high tem.erature. The aim.of this work is to m.ke an indirect evaluation of the influence of high tem.erature exposure on wear behavior of Ni coatings. A Ni-Cr-m.-W alloy, was deposited with Plasm. Transferred Arc (PTA) process. An indirect approach based on the Ahrrenius relationship was used to evaluated long tim. exposures at high tem.eratures. To sim.late longer exposures at lower tem.eratures, coatings were exposed to higher tem.eratures for the sam. tim. interval. So coatings were soaked in an air furnace at 650°C, 1000°C and 1200°C. m.tal/m.tal wear behavior was evaluated by pin-on-disc tests. Pins were rem.ved from.the coatings by eletrodischarge m.chining and rubbed against a VC31 quenched and tem.ered tool steel. Two sets of wear tests were run at 2m.s, for different loads (0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0Kg) and for different sliding distances (120, 720, 1080, 1440 and 1800m..Coatings characterization was done by scanning electronic m.croscopy and Vickers m.crohardness. Results showed as tem.erature is increased, coatings wear perform.nce is altered, and this is associated with m.crostructural changes.

This paper presents research on transport properties and alkali-silica reaction (ASR) susceptibility of m.rtars containing a pozzolanic waste generated in the fluid catalytic cracking (wFCC) unit by the Portuguese oil-refinery. For this purpose, two series of m.rtars were prepared by partially replacing cem.nt with 5%, 10% and 15% of wFCC catalyst. The m.in difference between the two series of m.rtars is the sand reactivity used in their com.osition. The results revealed that wFCC catalyst blended cem.nt m.rtars exhibit an increased resistance against capillary water absorption and chloride m.gration, as well as a considerable inhibition effect on deleterious ASR expansion. However, under the adopted experim.ntal conditions the incorporation of wFCC catalyst in m.rtars decreases their carbonation resistance.
