BACKGROUND Parvovirus B19(B19V)is associated with a wide range of clinical *** major presentation is erythema ***,a persistent infection may cause pure red cell aplasia and chronic anemia in immunocompromized *** B19V seroprevalence varies with age and geographical *** To determine the B19V serological status and DNAemia in kidney,liver,and pancreas transplant *** Patients who underwent kidney,liver,or simultaneous kidney and pancreas/liver transplantation between January 2021 and May 2022 were included in the *** serum samples were collected before *** detection of B19V DNA,a LightMix Kit B19V EC(TIB MOLBIOL,Berlin,Germany)was used.B19V IgM and IgG antibodies were detected using a commercial ELISA test(Euroimmun,Lübeck,Germany).RESULTS One hundred and thirty-one transplant candidates were included in the study,71.0%male,with an average age of 53.27 years±12.71 *** were 68.7%liver,27.5%kidney,3.0%simultaneous pancreas/kidney transplant(SPKT),and 0.8%simultaneous liver/kidney transplant *** patients had detectable B19V DNA.B19V IgG seroprevalence was 77.1%.No acute or recent infections were detected(IgM antibodies).There was no difference in the mean age of seronegative and seropositive patients(51.8 years±12.9 years vs 53.7 years±12.7 years,t=-0.603;P=0.548).Although seropositivity was lower in patients aged less than 30 years(66.6%)compared to the patients aged 30-59 years and>60 years(80.4%and 78.1%,respectively),this difference was not *** addition,there was no difference in seropositivity between male and female transplant candidates,76.3%and 78.9%(χ^(2)=0.104;P=0.748).The seroprevalence did not differ among organ recipients,with 77.8%,80.6%,and 50.0%for liver,kidney,and SPKT,respectively,(χ^(2)=5.297;P=0.151).No significant difference was found in the seroprevalence in kidney transplant patients according to dialysis *** was 71.

Rockfall Hazard Analyses and Rockfall Protection along the Adriatic Coast of Croatia

During the last decade, large rockfalls occurred on the steep limestone slopes along the Adriatic Coast of Croatia, causing injury to people and serious damage to buildings and traffic facilities. The rockfalls along the limestone slopes were caused by unfavorable characteristics of the rock mass, weathering in combination with heavy rainfall and artificial influences during highway construction. Rockfall protection projects were conducted to protect human lives and facilities from future rockfalls. The rockfall protection program started with rockfall hazard analyses to identify the potential of rockfalls to occur and the potential consequences. At the locations of hazards where related risks were determined, detailed field investigations were conducted. Based on the indentified characteristics of potentially unstable rock masses, analyses of movement and resulting pathways were conducted. The trajectories, impact energy and the height of bouncing are dependent on slope geometry, slope surface roughness and rockfall block characteristics. Two protection measure approaches were adopted: prevention of rockfalls by removing potentially unstable rock mass or installation of rock mass support systems and suspending running rockfall masses with rockfall protection barriers. In this paper, rockfall hazard determination, rockfall analyses and rockfall protection designs for rockfall protection systems at selected locations on the limestone slopes along the Adriatic coast of Croatia are presented.

A candidate identification questionnaire (CIQ) was tested to determine its predictive value for patient-reported satisfaction in patients switched from once-weekly or once-daily treatment with a bisphosphonate to once-monthly dosing. This was a prospective, open-label, multicenter international study in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis who had been receiving once-daily or once-weekly alendronate or risendronate for at least 3 months. Patients completed a CIQ, then commenced 150 mg monthly ibandronate for 6 months. Patients completed the Osteoporosis Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (OPSAT-QTM) at baseline for 6 months. Scores were converted to composite satisfaction scores (CSS, scale 0-100). Totally 677 patients completed a CIQ, 645 were enrolled in the treatment phase and comprised the intent-to-treat (ITT) population, and 630 completed the study. In the ITT population, 68.1% patients answered “yes” to one or more CIQ questions. OPSAT-Q scores increased for the convenience, quality of life and overall satisfaction domains (p scores for the side effects domains were significant (p < 0.001) in the CIQ “yes” group, but not for the degree of bother (decrease in mean of 0.1 points, p = 0.50) or duration (no change, p = 0.84) of non-gastrointestinal side effects. Of 638 patients who completed the preference questionnaire, 93.0% of patients preferred the once-monthly dosing schedule and 563 patients (90.7%) found it more convenient. The most common adverse events were dyspepsia (1.9%), nausea (1.1%), and upper abdominal pain (0.9%). Patients are likely to prefer treatment with monthly ibandronate to a weekly or monthly bisphosphonate irrespective of their stated preference before switching treatment.
