Effect of organic component(tartrate) addition on cerium nitrate's ability to inhibit corrosion of mild steel in NaCl solution

Cerium tartrate(CeTar),produced in this study by precipitating cerium nitrate with potassium sodium tartrate(kNaTar),was examined as a corrosion *** loss tests show inhibition efficiency of 71.7% with Ce(NO_(3))_(3) and 88.7% with CeTar inhibitor for one-month exposure to mild steel in 7 g/L NaCl *** inhibition efficiency drops to 28.6% with the fo rmer and remains around 8 7% with the latter inhibitor after six months of *** results from electrochemical testing indicate that the inhibition efficiency decreases by adding cerium ***,the cerium tartrate inhibitor demonstrates a nearly constant inhibition efficiency for up to 30 d,i.e.,≈90%.Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) performed in these cases shows the following results:(ⅰ) with cerium nitrate,a film of iron and cerium oxide,which on prolonged exposure diminishes,and(ⅱ) with cerium tartrate,the formation of a bimetallic film(Fe-tartrate-Ce) and a mixture of cerium hydroxide and iro n oxide that protects steel for a longer *** inferences are based on the analyses of scanning electron microscopy/energydispersive X-ray analysis(SEM/EDAX),X-ray diffraction(XrD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIr),X-ray photoelectron(XpS),and raman spectroscopy results.

In the present study an attempt has been made to carry out the detailed petrographic characterization of the karharbari coals of Talcher coalfield and to reconstruct the paleoenvironment conditions of coal formation using macerals and microlithtotypes as a tool. For these purposes a large number of samples were collected following the pillar sampling method and were subjected to detailed petrographic study. The petrographic observation shows that these coals are vitrinite rich followed by the liptinite and inertinite group of macerals. On microlithotype scale, these coals shows the dominance of the vitrite followed by clarite, vitrinertite and inertite. The concentration of liptite, clarodurite, duroclarite and vitriner- toliptite are insignificant. The vitrinite reflectance ranks the karharbari coal as high volatile bituminous ＇C＇ to high volatile ＇B＇ bituminous. Coal petrography based depositional models suggest peat accumulation in forested telmatic swamp. Moreover, during the time of their evolution, there were alternate phases of oxic and anoxic moor conditions with good tissue preservation.

Let f be an entire function. A point Zo is called a critical point of f if f′（zo） = O, and f（zo） is called a critical value （or an algebraic singularity） of f. Next a ∈ C is said to be an asymptotic value （or a transcendental singularity） of f if there exists a curve Г ： [0, 1） → C such that limt→1 F（t） = ∞ and limt→1（f o Г）（t） = a. In this paper we find relations between the asymptotic values of f, 9 and f o 9, relations between critical points of f, 9 and f o 9 and also in the case when the two functions f and 9 are semi-conjugated with another entire function.

Development of an ideal hormonal contraceptive for man has been the goal of several research workers during thepast few decades. Suppression of pituitary gonadotropic hormones, which in turn would inhibit spermatogenesis whilemaintaining normal libido and potentia has been the approach for a contraceptive agent. Intramuscularly administeredand orally active testosterone or testosterone in combination with progesterone have been shown to cause inhibition ofspermatogenesis resulting in azoospermia in normal men. Similarly testosterone has been used in combination with go-nadotropin releasing hormone antagonists and agonists to inhibit pituitary gonadotropic hormone release. Immunologicalapproach to neutralize the circulating levels of follicle stimulating hormone has also been shown to cause inhibition ofspermatogenesis. The available literature shows that testosterone causes reversible azoospermia without any significantside effects in Asian population effectively and appears to be a promising chemical for control of fertility in man.

Glaxo Laboratories, Bombay, have prepared a potent tetanus vaccine of 250 Lf as a substitute of the previous 5 Lf tetanus vaccine. The safety evaluation of the vaccine has been reported, but the teratogenic potential was not studied. In the experiment reported herein we have studied the teratogenic action of the vaccine in the progeny of rabbits. No congenital anomalies were observed.

A generic numerical model of a long-wavelength Avalanche photodiode （ApD） based on narrow bandgap semiconductor InAsSb on InAs substrate is reported for the first time. This model has been applied for theoretical characterization of a proposed N^＋ InAS/p-InAsSb avalanche photodiode structure for possible application in 2-5 μm wavelength region. The parameters such as gain, excess noise factor and their trade-off with variation of doping concentration and bias voltage have been estimated for the ApD taking into account history-dependent theory of avalanche multiplication process, The LWIr ApD is expected to fred application in optical gas sensor and in future generation of optical communication system.

We have recently cloned a pathogen inducible blast resistance gene pi-k^h from the indica rice line Tetep using a positional cloning approach. In this study, we carried out structural organization analysis of the pi-k^h locus in both indica and japonica rice lines. A 100 kb region containing 50 kb upstream and 50 kb downstream sequences flanking to the pi-k^h locus was selected for the investigation. A total of 16 genes in indica and 15 genes in japonica were predicted and annotated in this region. The average GC content of indica and japonica genes in this region was 53.15% and 49.3%, respectiveIy. Both indica and japonica sequences were polymorphic for simple sequence repeats having mono-, di-, tri-, tetra-, and pentanucleotides. Sequence analysis of the specific blast resistant pi-k^h allele of Tetep and the susceptible pi-k^h allele of the japonica rice line Nipponbare showed differences in the number and distribution of motifs involved in phosphorylation, resulting in the resistance phenotype in Tetep.

A series of experiments were conducted to examine the interactive effects of an organic ligand,a competing cation, and pH on the dissolution of zinc (Zn) from three California soils,Maymen sandy loam,Merced clay,and Yolo clay *** concentrations of soluble Zn of the three soils were low in a background solution of Ca(NO3)*** acid,a common organic ligand found in the rhizosphere,was effective in mobilizing Zn in these soils;its presence enhanced the concentration of Zn in soil solution by citrate forming a complex with *** ability of Zn to form a complex with citric acid in the soil solution was dependent on the concentration of citric acid,pH,and the concentration of the competing cation Ca^(2+).The pH of the soil solution determined the extent of desorption of Zn in solid phase in the presence of citric *** amounts of Zn released from the solid phase were proportional to the concentration of citric acid and inversely proportional to the concentration of Ca(NO3)2 background solution,which supplied the competing cation Ca^(2+) for the formation of a complex with *** the soil suspension was spiked with Zn,the adsorption of Zn by the soils was retarded by citric acid via the formation of the soluble Zn-citrate *** dissolution of Zn in the presence of citric acid was pH dependent in both adsorption and desorption processes.

In this paper, we present and discuss a an optical surface plasmon resonance （Spr） path to extend the enhancement of the resolution of sensor. Basically, our approach is to combine bi-metamaterial layers to design the Spr sensor. The calculation shows that the proposed Spr sensor structure has a preference over the conventional Spr sensors and bimetallic Spr sensors since it gives a much sharper reflectance dip and can achieve considerable sensitivity improvement when compared to the recently reported investigations. The effects of the metamaterial permittivity, permeability, and thickness on the reflectance curve are studied. It is also seen that metamaterial layers improve the field of the proposed Spr structure, which may provide a novel tool to significantly enhance the sensitivity and resolution of the sensors.
