Objective: To investigate the uptake rate of prostate specific antigen(PsA) testing among hong Kong Chinese males aged 50 or above, and identify factors associated with the likelihood of undergoing a PsA ***: A population-based telephone survey was conducted in hong Kong in 2007. The survey covered demographic information, perceived health status, use of complementary therapy, cancer screening behavior, perceived susceptibility to cancer and family history of cancer. Descriptive statistics, percentages and logistic regression analysis were used for data ***: A total of 1,002 men aged 50 or above took part in the study(response rate =67%), and the uptake rate of PsA testing was found to be 10%. Employment status, use of complementary therapy, perceiving regular visits to a doctor as good for health and the recommendations of health professionals were significant factors associated with PsA ***: The uptake rate of PsA testing in the study population was very low. Among all the factors identified, recommendations from health professionals had the strongest association with the uptake of PsA testing, and they should therefore take an active role in educating this population about cancer prevention and detection.

We address the problem of predicting the zero-temperature dynamical stability (Ds) of a periodic crystal without computing its fullphonon band structure. Here we report the evidence that Ds can be inferred with good reliability from the phonon frequencies atthe center and boundary of the Brillouin zone (BZ). This analysis represents a validation of the Ds test employed by theComputational 2D materials Database (C2DB). For 137 dynamically unstable 2D crystals, we displace the atoms along an unstablemode and relax the structure. This procedure yields a dynamically stable crystal in 49 cases. The elementary properties of these newstructures are characterized using the C2DB workflow, and it is found that their properties can differ significantly from those of theoriginal unstable crystals, e.g., band gaps are opened by 0.3 eV on average. All the crystal structures and properties are available inthe C2DB. Finally, we train a classification model on the Ds data for 3295 2D materials in the C2DB using a representation encodingthe electronic structure of the crystal. We obtain an excellent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve with an area under thecurve (AUC) of 0.90, showing that the classification model can drastically reduce computational efforts in high-throughput studies.

Payments for Environmental services(PEs)are relatively novel mechanisms whereby the adoption of sustainable management practices by a stakeholder is rewarded by incentives linked to external *** of PEs for conservation agricultural practices(CAPs)by smallholder farmers may provide opportunities to increase household income or cover the technology costs of adoption if the carbon sequestration benefits of CAPs are quantifiable,adoption rates are accelerated and maintained,a mechanism exists whereby carbon sequestration services can be compensated,and carbon offset exchange markets are *** research suggests a methodology to examine a PEs market for carbon offsets generated by the adoption of CAPs by farmers in *** a cumulative adoption of 60%over a 20-year period,revenue from PEs market participation to CA adopters was two times higher than revenue earned when disadoption occurred midway through the *** adoption targets are associated with higher per household returns when fertilizer rates typical to the region are *** and maintaining a sustainable PEs system in the study region would require significant investment in time and *** lack of on-the-ground institutions or local support for such a program would also challenge successful ***,the programs where participant success depends on external markets,such as the hypothetical one suggested here,are subject to the ebb and flow of foreign demand for carbon *** these three broad constraints to a PEs/CAPs program in the region would require grass-roots driven policy initiatives with buy-in at multiple social,economic,and political levels.

Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and their compounds are volatile components that dominate the thin and fragile atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere on Earth’s habitable surface. however, the vast majority of these volatiles are hidden in the deep interior, where the high pressure–temperature conditions drastically and categorically alter the physics and chemistry of the volatiles. Like the bloodstream of an organism, the circulations and interactions of volatiles in the deep Earth modulate climate, resources, energy, natural hazards, and other factors that define the Earth as a unique living and changing planet.

The present results showed that uptake of dopamine (DA) by rat isolated hep-atocytes was mediated, in addition to simple diffusion, mainly by a transporter-involved process, with Km of 66. 8 μmol and Vmax of 52. 3 pmol·min-1/105 cells. The process was pH- and temperature-dependent and required an activation energy of 4. 12 kcal ·mol-1(Q10 = 1.25) in the range of 2.0-12.7 C and 13.0 kcal·mol -1(Q10 = 2. 0) in the range of 12.7 -39.0C. Cysteine residue having free thiol group was. unrelated to the activity of the transporter. Catecholamines, serotonin, and cocaine inhibited the DA transport , but tyramine (TA) and tryptamine, as well as benztropine and imipramine (which are potent inhibitors for hepatic TA transporter and neuronal DA transporter), had no inhibitory effect on the transport of DA in these cells. This research is focused on the study of the samples, approximatively 15 × 30 mm^2 sized, that were mechanically cut from two sheets （0.4 and 0.2 mm thick, respectively） of AIs1444 Type ferritic stainless steel （Fss）（DIN 1.4521, Eu designation X2CrmoTil8-2）; this material was in the ＇as-rolled＇ state. Part of these specimens were treated superficially on one side using abrasive siC papers with different average grit sizes （i.e., 46.2, 30.2, 18.3 gm） and diamond suspension （up to 1 tim） in order to obtain various surface roughness. Both the ＇as-rolled＇ and superficially treated samples were then aged in a muffle fumace in static air according to a thermal cycle corresponding to the curing phase of an experimental glass used as sealing in the solid oxide fuel cell stacks. After aging, the chemical compositions and mor- phological peculiarities of the scale formed depending on the thickness of the samples and their surface state were studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, micro-Raman spectroscopy, bright field light optical microscopy. The obtained results show that all scales formed consist of an inner Cr2O3 subscale and an outer （mn,Cr）3O4 spinel layer; the relationship between Fss grain size and scale microstructural features is consistent on the samples with mirror-like surface only; the scale thicknesses on siC grinded samples are comparable; the scales covering the ＇as-rolled＇ surfaces are morphologically similar to those grown on the surfaces finished with the 30.2 and 18.3 μm siC papers, and their thicknesses show an intermediate situation between the abraded and the mirror-like specimens. The last described characteristics depend mainly on the surface and microstructural peculiarities resulting from the rolling process.

It is being increasingly acknowledged that immune cells depend on certain metabolic traits to perform their functions and that the extracellular environment can influence cell metabolism and vice *** cell(DC)subsets traffic through highly diverse environments from the bone marrow,where they develop,to the various peripheral tissues,where they differentiate and capture antigens,before they migrate to the lymph node to present antigens and prime T *** is plausible that DC subsets modulate their stimulatory abilities in response to unique metabolic *** metabolic requirements of DCs are just recently being discovered,and subset-and context-specific metabolic phenotypes in DCs are highly intertwined with DC *** this review,we present the current knowledge on the intrinsic and extrinsic determinants of DC metabolism,how they regulate DC function with examples from tumor biology and in interaction with the microbiota,and discuss how this can be applied therapeutically.
