Economic evaluations of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines in six Western Pacific and South East Asian countries and regions:A modeling study

Objective:The present study aimed to document the economic profiles of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines in Hong Kong SAR,Indonesia,China's Mainland,Philippines,singapore,and Thailand,the evidence on which is currently absent.Methods:Decision tree models were developed to assess the cost-effectiveness of two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines at a population vaccination rate of 50%in the base case,which was an estimate of feasible vaccination coverage according to previous studies.Epidemiological,mortality,cost,and health state utility information were sourced from the literature.Vaccine efficacy against COVID-19 cases by severity were estimated using metaanalyses of publicly accessible phase 3 trial results of inactivated vaccines.The health outcomes were quantified as quality-adjusted life years(QALYs)and compared across the vaccination and no vaccination strategies.In scenario analyses,incidence and vaccination rates were changed semi-continuously over spectrums,the results of which were presented as contour lines informing the efficiency frontiers of vaccination strategies.Oneway and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were also conducted.Results:The vaccination strategy was dominant in all jurisdictions in the base case by producing 105.18,98.15,99.70,60.48,112.00,and 103.47 QALYs while saving US$40.26 million,US$5.26 million,US$7.60 million,US$5.91 million,US$21.33 million,and US$7.18 million in Hong Kong SAR,Indonesia,China's Mainland,Philippines,singapore,and Thailand per every 100,000 vaccinated individuals,respectively.Results were robust in alternative model specifications.Conclusions:Inactivated COVID-19 vaccines may be cost-saving options in Hong Kong SAR,Indonesia,China's Mainland,Philippines,singapore,and Thailand.Mass vaccination programs using inactivated COVID-19 vaccines should be considered in these jurisdictions.

Laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy(LPD) at its early stage failed to demonstrate the superiority compared with open pancreaticoduodenectomy(OPD) [1]. The well-known randomized trial, LEOPARD-2, was even terminated due to the safety issue [2], but recent researches [3,4] revealed that LPD is technically safe and feasible with acceptable rates of morbidity and mortality and therefore, gains popularity recently.

Time to think: Selecting patients who may benefit from synchronous resection of primary pancreatic cancer and liver metastases

Pancreatic cancer remains a lethal disease and is associated with poor prognosis, particularly for patients with distant metastasis at diagnosis. Recently, Oweira reported a retrospective study that included 13233 metastatic pancreatic cancer patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. They demonstrated that pancreatic cancer patients with isolated liver metastases had worse outcomes than patients with isolated lung metastases or distant nodal metastases. At present, the standard treatment for metastatic pancreatic cancer is chemotherapy. However, improvement in the safety of pancreatic surgery has led to the consideration of more aggressive surgical approaches. Schneitler reported two cases of hepatic metastatic pancreatic cancer in which negative margin(R0) resection and long survival were achieved after effective preoperative chemotherapy. In general, these two studies indicate that although pancreatic cancer patients with liver metastasis have a poor prognosis, surgical approaches may prolong survival for a few of these patients. A strategy to select hepatic metastatic pancreatic cancer patients who may benefit from surgical intervention is urgently needed.

In this work,we give some criteria of the weakly compact sets and a representation theorem of Riesz's type in Musielak sequence spaces using the ideas and techniques of sequence spaces and Musielak function.Finally,as an immediate consequence of the criteria considered in this paper,the criteria of the weakly compact sets of Orlicz sequence spaces are deduced.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)and Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)are two human Coronavirus diseases emerging in this century,posing tremendous threats to public health and causing great loss to lives and economy.In this review,we retrospect the studies tracing the molecular evolution of SARS-CoV,and we sort out current research findings about the potential ancestor of SARS-CoV-2.Updated knowledge about SARS-CoV-2-like viruses found in wildlife,the animal susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2,as well as the interspecies transmission risk of SARS-related coronaviruses(SARSr-CoVs)are gathered here.Finally,we discuss the strategies of how to be prepared against future outbreaks of emerging or re-emerging coronaviruses.

Gastric cancer(GC)is one of the most common malignant tumors.The mechanism of how GC develops is vague,and therapies are inefficient.The function of microRNAs(miRNAs)in tumorigenesis has attracted the attention from many scientists.During the development of GC,miRNAs function in the regulation of different phenotypes,such as proliferation,apoptosis,invasion and metastasis,drug sensitivity and resistance,and stem-cell-like properties.MiRNAs were evaluated for use in diagnostic and prognostic predictions and exhibited considerable accuracy.Although many problems exist for the application of therapy,current studies showed the antitumor effects of miRNAs.This paper reviews recent advances in miRNA mechanisms in the development of GC and the potential use of miRNAs in the diagnosis and treatment of GC.

The complex momentum representation approach and its application to low‑lying resonances in 17 O and^(29,31)F

Approaches for predicting low-lying resonances,uniformly treating bound,and resonant levels have been a long-standing goal in nuclear theory.Accordingly,we explored the viability of the complex momentum representation(CMR)approach coupled with new potentials.We focus on predicting the energy of the low-lying 2p_(3∕2)resonance in 17 O,which is critical for s-process nucleosynthesis and missing in previous theoretical research.Using a Woods-Saxon potential based on the Koning-Delaroche optical model and constrained by the experimental one-neutron separation energy,we successfully predicted the resonant energy of this level for the first time.Our predictions of the bound levels and 1d_(3∕2)resonance agree well with the measurement results.Additionally,we utilize this approach to study the near-threshold resonances that play a role when forming a two-neutron halo in^(29,31)F.We found that the CMR-based predictions of the bound-level energies and unbound 1f7∕2 level agree well with the results obtained using the scattering phase shift method.Subsequently,we successfully found a solution for the 2p_(3∕2)resonance with energy just above the threshold,which is decisive for halo formation.

Magnetic-conductive bi-gradient structure design of CP/PGFF/Fe 3 O 4 composites for highly absorb e d EMI shielding and balanced mechanical strength

Developing excellent absorption-dominant electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding composites is an urgent demand for the rapid development of 5 G technology and electronic equipment.Herein,a simple strategy is employed to fabricate carbon nanotubes-polypropylene fibers(CP)/polypropylene-glass fibers felt(PGFF)/Fe 3 O 4 composites with superior EMI shielding effectiveness and low reflection due to the magnetic-conductive bi-gradient structure which is naturally formed by deposition during the vacuum-assisted filtration process.The difference in dimensionality between one-dimensional CNT with outstand-ing electrical conductivity and zero-dimensional magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles is the theoretical basis for the successful construction of the magnetic-conductive bi-gradient structure in a gap-rich PGFF matrix that endows the composites with“absorb-reflect-reabsorb”EMI shieldingmechanism.Whentheelectro-magnetic waves are incident from the magnetic layer,the EMI shielding effectiveness(SE)reaches 48.9 dB as the weight percentage of the conductive layer increases,more importantly,the reflection coefficients are reduced by more than 0.32 compared with that of another incident pattern.What’s more,the re-sultant composites exhibit an outstanding signal shielding function in the application.This work paves a convenient pathway for designing a magnetic-conductive bi-gradient structure and efficient absorbing EMI shielding composites applied in the next-generated electronic information and communication field.

Spy chemistry enables stable protein immobilization on iron oxide nanoparticles with enhanced magnetic properties

Iron oxide nanoparticles(IONPs)modified with functional proteins hold great promise in the biomedical field.However,conventional protein modification strategies,such as adsorption and covalent coupling,are either unstable or nonspecific,or may result in the changes of protein structure and ultimately the loss of protein activity.Modification of active proteins on small-sized IONPs with a particle size of less than 30 nm is especially difficult due to their high surface energy.Herein,we developed a universal modifica-tion method based on Spy chemistry for rapid and stable protein immobilization on small-sized IONPs,which only requires the presence of active groups on the surface of nanoparticles that can couple with SpyCatcher.In short,the SpyCatcher peptides were first coated on the surface of IONPs by cross-linking with activated groups,and then the SpyTag peptide fused with a model protein(enhanced green fluo-rescent protein,EGFP)was engineered(SpyTag-EGFP)and directly coupled to SpyCatcher-modified IONPs by self-assembly,which is spontaneous and robust while avoiding the effect of chemical reactions on functional protein activity.The obtained EGFP-functionalized IONPs exhibited enhanced and stable green fluorescence and improved magnetic properties.In addition,the cell internalization efficiency of EGFP-functionalized IONPs was significantly increased as compared to unmodified IONPs,providing an ideal solution for efficient cell labeling and tracking.In conclusion,here we report a rapid and easy strategy for EGFP immobilization on IONPs based on Spy chemistry,which could be further adapted to other functional proteins in the future.SpyCatcher-modified IONPs and SpyTag-X(arbitrary functional fusion proteins)hold great potential to be applied as a versatile platform for protein immobilization on IONPs and enable its multifunctional application in the future.

Wettability Gradient-Induced Diode: MXene-Engineered Membrane for Passive-Evaporative Cooling

Engineering MXene into electrospun nanofibers can effectively enhance its thermal emissivity and conductance, and the unidirectional water transport of the wettability-gradient-induced-diode (WGID) membrane displayed diode-like properties with wettability gradient by tailoring the water contact angle of each single layer. The WGID membrane could achieve a cooling temperature of 1.5 degrees C in the "dry" state, and 7.1 degrees C in the "wet" state, with high emissivity of 96.40% in the MIR range, superior thermal conductivity of 0.3349 W m-1 K-1. Zero-energy-consumption for personal cooling management via multiple heat dissipation pathways, including thermal radiation, conduction, and evaporation. Abstract Thermoregulatory textiles, leveraging high-emissivity structural materials, have arisen as a promising candidate for personal cooling management; however, their advancement has been hindered by the underperformed water moisture transportation capacity, which impacts on their thermophysiological comfort. Herein, we designed a wettability-gradient-induced-diode (WGID) membrane achieving by MXene-engineered electrospun technology, which could facilitate heat dissipation and moisture-wicking transportation. As a result, the obtained WGID membrane could obtain a cooling temperature of 1.5 degrees C in the "dry" state, and 7.1 degrees C in the "wet" state, which was ascribed to its high emissivity of 96.40% in the MIR range, superior thermal conductivity of 0.3349 W m-1 K-1 (based on radiation- and conduction-controlled mechanisms), and unidirectional moisture transportation property. The proposed design offers an approach for meticulously engineering electrospun membranes with enhanced heat dissipation and moisture transportation, thereby paving the way for developing more efficient and comfortable thermoregulatory textiles in a high-humidity microenvironment.
