Comparing accuracy of cochlear measurements on magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography:A step towards radiation-free cochlear implantation

Objective:Computed Tomography(CT)and Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)are commonly employed in pre-operative evaluation for cochlear implant ***,with a decrease in the age of implantation,even minor radiation exposure can cause detrimental effects on children over their *** current study compares different cochlear measurements from CT and MRI scans and evaluates the feasibility of using only an MRI scan for radiological evaluation before cochlear ***:A longitudinal observational study was conducted on 94 ears/47 children,employing CT and MRI *** CT and MRI scan measurements include,A value,B value,Cochlear duct length(CDL),twoturn cochlear length,alpha and beta angles to look for cochlear *** nerve diameter was measured using *** values were ***:The mean difference between measurements from CT and MRI scans for A value,B value,CDL,and two-turn cochlear length values was 0.567±0.413 mm,0.406±0.368 mm,2.365±1.675 mm,and 2.063±1.477 mm respectively without any significant *** alpha and beta angle measures were comparable,with no statistically significant ***:The study suggests that MRI scans can be the only radiological investigation needed with no radiation risk and reduces the cost of cochlear implant program in the paediatric *** is no significant difference between the measurements obtained from CT and MRI ***,observed discrepancies in cochlear measurements across different populations require regionally or race-specific standardized values to ensure accurate diagnosis and precision in cochlear implant *** aspect must be addressed to ensure positive outcomes for patients.

IntroductionThe association between pulmonary interstitial fibrosis and the development of bronchogenic carcinoma in a patient with scleroderma has been reported rarely. It is hypothesized that intense epithelial proliferation that is accompanied by the .brotic process increases the occurrence of carcinomatous changes. We report the case of a pa-tient who presented with 3-year history of Raynaud＇s phenomenon, gradual tightening of the skin which was ignored by the patient and her family members, and a 2-week history of severe respiratory dis-tress with left shoulder and upper back pain followed by the develop-ment of paraparesis. After a series of examinations, the patient was diagnosed with scleroderma and simultaneously with bronchogenic carcinoma and multiple distant metastases.

Achieve Intended Learning Outcomes and Improving Digital Literacy Skills for Practical-Based Subjects Using Online Teaching via Propagation of OER Materials

As professors are subjected to teaching their classes online due to the recent COVID-19, our local Hong Kong students find it difficult to consult their teachers, and ultimately would fail to achieve the intended learning outcomes, especially for practical-based subjects. In this research, students having online classes of a practical-based fabric design subject were encouraged to self-study from Open Educational Resource (OER) materials for a further and better understanding of their subject. Additionally, online materials were developed to improve students’ understanding via skill of digital literacy. Their learning progress was evaluated and compared to the face-to-face version. The majority of students found online classes combined with self-studying OER materials, potentially be a substitute for face-to-face classes. Most of the students further opined different OER videos assisted them without any face-to-face instructions in practical works, to develop new fabric samples from the inspiration. Analysis of test results, and comparison of students’ final grades with different learning modes, supported these phenomena.

Preliminary Variations in Physiological Modules When <i>sub</i>1<i>A</i>QTL Is under Soil-Moisture Deficit Stress

The present investigation embodies with some distinct physiological responses of rice seedlings bearing sub1A allele when cultured under soil moisture deficit condition. In order to estimate the extent of variation of sub1A allele in cv. Swarna Sub1, few specific responses were recorded. Ongoing days (2, 4 and 8) of water stress, rice seedlings were mostly concerned with regulation of root growth through 1.24%, 4.10% and 8.96% as compared to control. When relative growth rate (RGR) of the biomass was considered, it recorded a significant down regulation maximum by 27.27% over non-stressed plants. The light absorbing capacity of foliages in terms of leaf mass ratio (15.62%) and specific leaf weight (8.45%) was also curtailed under stress contiguously with total dry matter accumulation. For light harnessing mechanism, the contributing pigments were most significantly (p ≤ 0.05) affected with maximum variation for chlorophyll (31.29%), lycopene (79.31%) and carotenoids (55.31%) over control. NAR was strikingly differed by 32.72% under water stress in average. To support the water stress related depletion of moisture tension, plants recorded RWC with a ranges of 6.62% to 21.57% under stress than control. In balance of cellular dehydration rice seedlings were recorded 6.72% loss of proline, but up-regulated the release of free amino acids by 1.35 fold. In expression of generic potential for sub1A allele, the growth inhibition even under water deficit was evident from carbohydrate depletion by 10.93%, 11.42% and 24.35% through days of treatments. This was supported by depletion of apoplastic and cellular invertase activities by 90.90% and 72.91%. The possibility for sub1A in tolerance of deficit water status in rice culture has been discussed in more details.

Clinical outcome of orbital apex syndrome in COVID associated mucormycosis patients in a tertiary care hospital

AIM: To share clinical pattern of presentation, the modalities of surgical intervention and the one month postsurgical outcome of rhino-orbito-mucormycosis(ROCM) ***: All COVID associated mucormycosis(CAM) patients underwent comprehensive multidisciplinar y examination by ophthalmologist, otorhinolaryngologist and physician. Patients with clinical and radiological evidence of orbital apex involvement were included in the study. Appropriate medical and surgical intervention were done to each patient. Patients were followed up one-month post intervention. RESULTS: Out of 89 CAM patients, 31(34.8%) had orbital apex syndrome. Sixty-six(74.2%) of such patients had pre-existing diabetes mellitus, 18(58%) patients had prior documented use of steroid use, and 55(61.8%) had no light perception(LP) presenting vision. Blepharoptosis, proptosis, complete ophthalmoplegia were common clinical findings. Seventeen(19.1%) of such patients had variable amount of cavernous sinus involvement. Endoscopic debridement of paranasal sinuses and orbit with or without eyelid sparing limited orbital exenteration was done in most cases, 34(38.2%) patients could retain vision in the affected eye. CONCLUSION: Orbital apex involvement in CAM patients occur very fast. It not only leads to loss of vision but also sacrifice of the eyeball, orbital contents and eyelids. Early diagnosis and prompt intervention can preserve life, vision and spare mutilating surgeries.

Depth profile exploration of enzyme activity and culturable microbial community from the oxygen-starved soil of Sundarban mangrove forest, India

Populations of culturable microbes and activities of dehydrogenase & ?-D glucosidase were found maximum in surface soil and decreased with increase in depth in Sundarban mangrove *** maximum (13.529 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) and minimum (11.547 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) total microbial popu- lations in surface soil were recorded during po- st-monsoon and monsoon respectively. At 60 cm depth, the lower (6.396 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) and higher (8.003 X 106 C.F.U g-1 dry weight of soil) numbers of total microbial populations were observed during monsoon and post-monsoon respectively. A decreasing trend of total microbial load, enzyme activities and nutrient status with organic carbon were found with increase in depth throughout the year. Present study revealed the relationship among depth integrated variations of physico-chemical compo- nents (viz. soil temperature, pH, moisture, orga- nic-C, .nitrogen, and available-P) and microbial populations as well as activity of dehydrogenase and ?-D glucosidase enzymes.

Fabrication and characterization of the Ti-Ca-P composites by vacuum sintering

Using Ti and biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) pow-ders, Ti-Ca-P composites which contained 0 - 30 vol.% BCP powders initially, were fabricated by vac-uum sintering at two different sintering temperatures, 1300°C and 1400°C. Detailed microstructural char-acteristics of the resulting composites were investi-gated. Mechanical properties like compressive strength, Vickers hardness were evaluated and they showed decreasing trend with the increasing initial BCP content. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) profiles revealed that extensive chemical reaction occurred and the initial BCP was degraded and formed CaO, TiO2, TiP, CaTiO3. However, the cell viability by MTT assay and cell proliferation behavior through one cell morphology analysis showed excellent in-creasing trend in biocompatibility which makes this materials suitable for hard tissue aid *** the composite containing 30 vol.% BCP content with Ti sintered at 1400°C showed excellent biocompati-bility with the Vickers Hardness value 108.8 HV and the compressive strength value 303.7 MPa.

Influenced of Twill Geometry Variation on Woven Fabrics: Analysis of Physico-Chemical Properties

It has been analyzed the properties such as tensile strength, tearing resistance, crease angle recovery, pilling formation, drape co-efficient, colorfastness to rubbing and colorfastness wash by testing with the help of related instrument, The twill woven fabrics which are chosen only different to their weave structure (2/1 S twill and 3/1 S twill) whether the other specification of the fabrics like warp count, weft count, ends per inch, picks per inch, GSM of the fabrics and the fiber quality were same. From the experiment, it was found that some properties such as tensile strength, drape co-efficient and colorfastness of 2/1 twill are better than 3/1 twill on the other hand few properties such as crease angle recovery, tearing resistance and colorfastness to wash of 3/1 twill is better than 2/1 twill. Afterward while performing the job for identifying the pill formation tendency, it was observed that pill formation tendencies of the both fabrics are same.

Influence of socio-economic status and environmental factors on serologically diagnosed Japanese encephalitis cases in the state of West Bengal, India during 2005-2010

Objectives: The main aim of the current study is to examine the influence of socio-economic status and environmental factors on serologically diagnosed Japanese encephalitis cases in the state of West Bengal, India during 2005-2010. Materials and methods: A total of 648 blood/CSF specimens were collected and/or referred from the suspected AES cases, admitted in the different medical colleges and hospitals of the state during the year of 2005-2010. These specimens were subjected to JE Mac ELISA to determine the actual JE case amongst these AES. The association of the socio-economic status and environmental factors with the serologically diagnosed JE positive cases was studied by a statistical analysis through Normal Deviate test or Z test. Result: Out of 648 specimens, only 175 (27.0%) specimens were reactive to JE IgM antibody, of which 60.0% were from the male individuals and 40.0% from the female population. Major cases were observed in the age group of 0 - 10 years;followed by 11 - 20 years. Regarding literacy, only 58.3% cases had no education and 41.7% were from the literate with varying level of education, i.e., from primary level to post gra- duate level. A total of 65.7% cases were from low income group where as only 34.3% cases were from high income group. Regarding house type, 62.3% cases lived in mud house and 37.7% cases lived in the brick house. In most of the cases (74.3%), persons were living in close proximity to rice fields/lakes/ponds. 69.7% cases were found to occur in the monsoon and post-monsoon period whereas 30.3% cases were reported in the pre-monsoon period. Conclusion: Our study concludes that socio-economic status and environmental conditions were statistically significant contextual risk factors for serologically diagnosed JE incidences in West Bengal where JE is proved to be endemic in nature and such study constitutes a new report of this kind in the region.
