Ocular surface in patients with different degrees of myopia

AIM:To investigate the clinical features of the ocular surface in patients with different degrees of myopia.METHODS:A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 122 participants with myopia in Beijing Tongren Hospital from February to June,2023.After completing the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)score scale,measurements were taken for refraction,biometric parameters and ocular surface parameters.The prevalence,severity and related parameters of the dry eye among different groups based on axial length(AL)were compared.Correlation analysis was performed between ocular surface parameters and refraction/biometric measurement parameters.RESULTS:Statistically significant differences were observed in refractive error,corneal thickness,anterior chamber depth,and subfoveal choroidal thickness among the groups(all P<0.05).With the increase in AL,the incidence and severity of dry eye increased significantly(P<0.05).Moreover,the tear film break-up time(BUT)shortened(P<0.05),and the corneal fluorescein staining(CFS)points increased significantly(P<0.05).OSDI scores were positively correlated with AL and spherical equivalent(SE;both P<0.05);BUT was negatively correlated with AL,SE,and corneal astigmatism(AST;all P<0.05);Schirmer I test(SIT)results were negatively correlated with AL and SE(both P<0.05).CONCLUSION:AL elongation is a risk factor for dry eye onset in myopic participants.The longer the AL,the more severe the dry eye is,with the increased CFS spots and tear film instability.Additionally,SE and AST exhibit negative correlations with dry eye symptom scores and ocular surface parameters.

Spasmodic torticollis(ST)is a focal dystonia that affects adults,causing limited muscle control and impacting daily activities and quality of life.The etiology and curative methods for ST remain unclear.Botulinum toxin is widely used as a firstline treatment,but long-term usage can result in reduced tolerance and adverse effects.Rehabilitation therapy,with its minimal side effects and low potential for harm,holds significant clinical value.This article explores the effectiveness of adjunctive therapies,including exercise therapy,transcranial magnetic stimulation,shockwave therapy,neuromuscular electrical stimulation,vibration therapy,electromyographic biofeedback,and acupuncture,in the treatment of ST.The aim is to provide clinicians with additional treatment options and to discuss the efficacy of rehabilitation therapy for ST.

Magnetically controllable multimode interference in topological photonic crystals

Topological photonic insulators show promise for applications in compact integrated photonic circuits due to their ability to transport light robustly through sharp bendings.The number of topological edge states relies on the difference between the bulk Chern numbers across the boundary,as dictated by the bulk edge correspondence.The interference among multiple topological edge modes in topological photonics systems may allow for controllable functionalities that are particularly desirable for constructing reconfigurable photonic devices.In this work,we demonstrate magnetically controllable multimode interference based on gyromagnetic topological photonic insulators that support two unidirectional edge modes with different dispersions.We successfully achieve controllable power splitting in experiments by engineering multimode interference with the magnetic field intensity or the frequency of wave.Our work demonstrates that manipulating the interference among multiple chiral edge modes can facilitate the advancement of highly efficient and adaptable microwave devices.

Quantum gate-assisted teleportation in noisy environments:robustness and fidelity improvement

Quantum teleportation as the key strategy for quantum communication requires pure maximally shared entangled states among quantum nodes.In practice,quantum decoherence drastically degrades the shared entanglement during entanglement distribution,which is a serious challenge for the development of quantum networks.However,most of the decoherence control strategies proposed thus far are either resource-intensive or time-consuming.To overcome this obstacle,we enable noise-resistant teleportation through a noisy channel with a limited number of qubits and without applying time-consuming weak measurements.We apply a quantum gate control unit consisting of a controlled NOT gate and a rotation gate after the original teleportation protocol is accomplished.Furthermore,we demonstrate that a teleportation fidelity of unity is attainable when environment-assisted measurement is added to the proposed teleportation protocol via quantum gates.Moreover,we present an entanglement distribution process by employing the designed quantum gate control unit followed by the deterministic standard teleportation protocol to improve teleportation fidelity by establishing improved shared entanglement.Our performance analysis indicates that the proposed teleportation schemes offer a competitive fidelity and success probability compared with the conventional schemes and a recent weak measurement-based teleportation protocol.

The mortality of cancer patients has considerably improved due to progress in surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, some types of cancers, such as melanoma, remain refractory to conventional strategies. Although melanoma accounts for only 4% of all dermatological malignancies, it is responsible for 80% of mortalities from skin tumors[11. The reported survival rate of melanoma over 5 years is not yet encouraging due to its chemo-resistance and rapid metastasis. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new drugs with potent activity and weak side-effect against melanoma.

Orbital Stability of Solitary Waves of Compound KdV-type Equation

In this paper, we study the orbital stability of solitary waves of compound KdV-type equation in the form of ut ＋ auPux ＋ bu2pux ＋ Uzzz = 0 （b 〉 0, p 〉 0）. Our results imply that orbital stability of solitary waves is affected not only by the highest-order nonlinear term bu2pux, but also the nonlinear term auPux. For the case of b 〉 0 and 0 〈 p ≤ 2, we obtain that the positive solitary wave Ul（X - ct） is stable when a 〉 0, while that unstable when a 〈 0. The stability for negative solitary wave u2（x - ct） is on the contrary. In particular, we point that the nonlinear term with coefficient a makes contributes to the stability of the solitary waves when p= 2 and a〉0.

Combining prognostic value of serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 and tumor size reduction ratio in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

BACKGROUND Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is a common cancer with increasing morbidity and mortality due to changes of social environment.AIM To evaluate the significance of serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9(CA19-9)and tumor size changes pre-and post-neoadjuvant therapy(NAT).METHODS This retrospective study was conducted at the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Translational Research for Cancer Metastasis and Individualized Treatment,Chongqing University Cancer Hospital.This study specifically assessed CA19-9 levels and tumor size before and after NAT.RESULTS A total of 156 patients who completed NAT and subsequently underwent tumor resection were included in this study.The average age was 65.4±10.6 years and 72(46.2%)patients were female.Before survival analysis,we defined the post-NAT serum CA19-9 level/pre-NAT serum CA19-9 level as the CA19-9 ratio(CR).The patients were divided into three groups:CR0.5 and1.With regard to tumor size measured by both computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging,we defined the post-NAT tumor size/pre-NAT tumor size as the tumor size ratio(TR).The patients were then divided into three groups:TR0.5 and1.Based on these groups divided according to CR and TR,we performed both overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS)analyses.Log-rank tests showed that both OS and DFS were significantly different among the groups according to CR and TR(P<0.05).CR and TR after NAT were associated with increased odds of achieving a complete or near-complete pathologic response.Moreover,CR(hazard ratio:1.721,95%CI:1.373-3.762;P=0.006),and TR(hazard ratio:1.435,95%CI:1.275-4.363;P=0.014)were identified as independent factors associated with OS.CONCLUSION This study demonstrated that post-NAT serum CA19-9 level/pre-NAT serum CA19-9 level and post-NAT tumor size/pre-NAT tumor size were independent factors associated with OS in patients with PDAC who received NAT and subsequent surgical resection.

An effective strategy of constructing multi-metallic oxides of ZnO/ CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C microflowers for improved supercapacitive performance

In this work,a new ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C metal oxides composite is prepared by cost-effective hydrothermal method coupled with annealing process under N_(2) atmosphere.Notably,the oxidation-defect annealing environment is conducive to both morphology and component of the composite,which flower-like ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C is obtained.Benefited from good chemical stability of ZnO,high energy capacity of CoNiO_(2) and CoO and good conductivity of C,the as-prepared sample shows promising electrochemical behavior,including the specific capacity of 1435 C·g^(-1) at 1 A·g^(-1),capacity retention of 87.3%at 20 A·g^(-1),and cycling stability of 90.5%for 3000 cycles at 5 A·g^(-1),respectively.Furthermore,the prepared ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C/NF//AC aqueous hybrid supercapacitors device delivers the best specific energy of 55.9 W·h·kg^(-1) at 850 W·kg^(-1).The results reflect that the as-prepared ZnO/CoNiO_(2)/CoO/C microflowers are considered as high performance electrode materials for supercapacitor,and the strategy mentioned in this paper is benefit to prepare mixed metal oxides composite for energy conversion and storage.

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry in the genetic basis of systemic lupus erythematosus and the complicating kidney injury

Background It is necessary to develop some innovative methods to reveal and discover the novel （SLE）-related protein molecules. In the present study, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry （MALDI- TOF MS） was employed to detect the differential expression of serum polypeptides in the patients with systemic lupus erythematosus （SLE） presenting with a family history or complicating with kidney injury so as to identify the proteins associated with the genetic factors and kidney injury in SLE. Methods The subjects recruited were divided into four groups, that is, a group of SLE patients with both family history and kidney injury, a group of SLE patients with only kidney injury but no family history, a group of SLE patients with neither family history nor kidney injury, and a control group consisting of healthy volunteers. By adopting MALDI-TOF MS analysis, the serum samples obtained from the three groups of SLE patients were examined and compared with those from the control group; the categorized peptide fingerprint profile was established via the biological data collected from the samples. Results The expression of protein with a mlz of 4207 Da increased significantly in SLE patients; the protein with a ml z of 2658 Da was expressed in all SLE patients; three proteins （with mlz of 1465, 5332, and 5900 Da respectively） were expressed in the SLE patients complicated with kidney injury and the protein with a mlz of 1943 Da was expressed in SLE patients with family history. Conclusion A number of differential proteins were successfully detected and identified through MALDI-TOF MS detection and these proteins may be associated with the genetic basis of SLE and the complicating kidney injury.

目的分析2010—2022年山东省聊城市麻疹流行病学特征,为聊城市消除麻疹工作提供依据。方法采用流行病学方法回顾分析2010—2022年聊城市麻疹流行特征。结果2010—2022年聊城市共报告麻疹病例1356例,其中实验室确诊1262例,临床诊断94例,年均报告发病率1.77/10万,报告发病率呈下降趋势(趋势χ^(2)=2934.037,P<0.001)。2010年和2013—2016年报告发病率较高,其余年度为散发,发病高峰主要集中在1—6月和12月。报告发病率全市前三位依次为东昌府区、高唐县和东阿县。病例集中在≤3岁儿童和≥20岁成人、占报告病例总数的91.15%。无含麻疹成分疫苗(MCV)免疫史病例占58.92%,免疫史不详病例占25.00%。基因型鉴定232例麻疹监测病例中,226例为本土H1型,6例为疫苗株A型。结论2010—2022年聊城市麻疹报告发病率呈下降趋势,2020年麻疹报告发病率最低。需继续维持适龄儿童2剂次MCV高水平覆盖率和接种及时率,主动开展大年龄组人群,尤其是人口流动较大和与外省(市)交界的县(区)重点人群的MCV接种并加强监测,保持麻疹监测系统高质量运转,提高病原学标本检测阳性率。
