To the Editor:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the main causes of cancer related death worldwide,and new cases are expected to continue to increase in future[1].Surgical resection is still the best way to remove the tumor and improve patient’s prognosis.However,resection of caudate lobe often presents a technical challenge,even to accomplished hepatic surgeons.Caudate lobe is located anterior to the inferior vena cava(IVC)and posterior to the bifurcation of the portal vein(PV),generally consists of three regions:the paracaval portion,the left Spiegel lobe and the process portion[2].The anatomy of the paracaval portion includes the liver parenchyma ventral to the hepatic IVC and the area between the Spiegel lobe and the right lobe adjacent to the middle hepatic vein(MHV)ventrally,which was classified by Couinaud as segment IX[3].Here,we presented a case of HCC with successful downstaging therapy,as well as variation of MHV,which provides a safe path for anterior transection of segment IX.

To the Editor:We read with great interest the article by Schulze et al.entitled“Robotic surgery and liver transplantation:A single-center experience of 501 robotic donor hepatectomies”[1].It is the first single-center report including over 500 fully robotic donor hepatectomies.For the donors,the overall complication rate was 6.4%(n=32).Postoperative self-limiting bleeding(0.4%)and bile leakage from the resection plane(1.8%)were rare.

BACKGROUND Recently,research has linked Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)stomach infection to colonic inflammation,mediated by toxin production,potentially impacting colorectal cancer occurrence.AIM To investigate the risk factors for post-colon polyp surgery,H.pylori infection,and its correlation with pathologic type.METHODS Eighty patients who underwent colon polypectomy in our hospital between January 2019 and January 2023 were retrospectively chosen.They were then randomly split into modeling(n=56)and model validation(n=24)sets using R.The modeling cohort was divided into an H.pylori-infected group(n=37)and an H.pylori-uninfected group(n=19).Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the factors influencing the occurrence of H.pylori infection after colon polyp surgery.A roadmap prediction model was established and validated.Finally,the correlation between the different pathological types of colon polyps and the occurrence of H.pylori infection was analyzed after colon polyp surgery.RESULTS Univariate results showed that age,body mass index(BMI),literacy,alcohol consumption,polyp pathology type,high-risk adenomas,and heavy diet were all influential factors in the development of H.pylori infection after intestinal polypectomy.Binary multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that age,BMI,and type of polyp pathology were independent predictors of the occurrence of H.pylori infection after intestinal polypectomy.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.969[95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.928–1.000]and 0.898(95%CI:0.773–1.000)in the modeling and validation sets,respectively.The slope of the calibration curve of the graph was close to 1,and the goodness-of-fit test was P>0.05 in the two sets.The decision analysis curve showed a high rate of return in both sets.The results of the correlation analysis between different pathological types and the occurrence of H.pylori infection after colon polyp surgery showed that hyperplastic polyps,inflammatory polyps,and the occurrence of

Background:Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)is a poorly understood and aggressive malignancy with increasing incidence and mortality.Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection is recognized as one of the important risk factors of ICC.There are few reports focusing on whether isolated antibody to hepatitis B core antigen(isolated anti-HBc,IAHBc)have prognostic role in ICC,while positive hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)has been reported to be associated with the prognosis of ICC.The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of IAHBc in ICC patients after curative resection,in order to identify those who have the high risk of ICC recurrence in the early stage.Methods:We divided 209 ICC patients who underwent curative resection into 4 groups:groupⅠ(n=40),HBsAg(-)/antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen(anti-HBs)(-)/anti-HBc(+);groupⅡ(n=70),HBsAg(+)/anti-HBc(-);groupⅢ(n=55),HBsAg(-)/anti-HBs(+)/anti-HBc(+);and groupⅣ(n=44),HBsAg(-)/anti-HBc(-).We compared the recurrence-free survival(RFS)and overall survival(OS)among these four groups.Results:The median follow-up time was 16.93 months(range 1-34.6 months).The 1-and 2-year RFS and OS rates were 60%and 42%,and 78%and 63%respectively in all patients.Compared to the whole non-IAHBc patients(groupⅡ+groupⅢ+groupⅣ),IAHBc patients(groupⅠ)showed significantly lower RFS at 1 year(39.8%vs.64.4%,P=0.001)and 2 years(20.7%vs.46.7%,P=0.001).When compared to other three individual groups,IAHBc patients(groupⅠ)also had the lowest RFS.We did not find significant difference in OS among the four groups.Further multivariate analysis revealed that IAHBc was an independent risk factor of RFS.Conclusions:IAHBc is an independent poor prognostic factor for tumor recurrence in ICC patients after curative resection.

As a ceramic material,AlN has very good thermophysical and mechanical properties.In addition,AlN is an effective refining agent for Mg alloys because it has a lattice constant similar to that of Mg.Therefore,AlN is an ideal reinforcement for magnesium matrix composites(MMCs),and is attracting increasing attention.This review addresses the development of preparation technologies for AlN-reinforced Mg matrix composites.The mainstream preparation techniques include stir casting,melt infiltration,powder metallurgy,and in-situ methods.In addition,the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are analyzed in depth,and it is pointed out that the next direction for the preparation of high-performance AlN-reinforced MMCs is less aluminization and multiple technologies integration.

The emergence of exotic quantum phenomena in frustrated magnets is rapidly driving the development of quantum many-body physics,raising fundamental questions on the nature of quantum phase transitions.Here we unveil the behaviour of emergent symmetry involving two extraordinarily representative phenomena,i.e.,the deconfined quantum critical point(DQCP)and the quantum spin liquid(QSL)state.Via large-scale tensor network simulations,we study a spatially anisotropic spin-1/2 square-lattice frustrated antiferromagnetic(AFM)model,namely the J1x-J1y-J2 model,which contains anisotropic nearestneighbor couplings J1x,J1y and the next nearest neighbor coupling J2.For small J1y/J1x,by tuning J2,a direct continuous transition between the AFM and valence bond solid phase is observed.With growing J1y/J1x,a gapless QSL phase gradually emerges between the AFM and VBS phases.We observe an emergent O(4)symmetry along the AFM–VBS transition line,which is consistent with the prediction of DQCP theory.Most surprisingly,we find that such an emergent O(4)symmetry holds for the whole QSL–VBS transition line as well.These findings reveal the intrinsic relationship between the QSL and DQCP from categorical symmetry point of view,and strongly constrain the quantum field theory description of the QSL phase.The phase diagram and critical exponents presented in this paper are of direct relevance to future experiments on frustrated magnets and cold atom systems.

Liver resection and transplantation are the most effective therapies for many hepatobiliary tumors and diseases.However,these surgical procedures are challenging due to the anatomic complexity and many anatomical variations of the vascular and biliary structures.Three-dimensional(3D)printing models can clearly locate and describe blood vessels,bile ducts and tumors,calculate both liver and residual liver volumes,and finally predict the functional status of the liver after resection surgery.The 3D printing models may be particularly helpful in the preoperative evaluation and surgical planning of especially complex liver resection and transplantation,allowing to possibly increase resectability rates and reduce postoperative complications.With the continuous developments of imaging techniques,such models are expected to become widely applied in clinical practice.
