Numerical simulations for radon migration and exhalation behavior during measuring radon exhalation rate with closed-loop method

Accurate measurements of the radon exhalation rate help identify and evaluate radon risk regions in the environment.Among these measurement methods,the closed-loop method is frequently used.However,traditional experiments are insufficient or cannot analyze the radon migration and exhalation patterns at the gas–solid interface in the accumulation chamber.The CFD-based technique was applied to predict the radon concentration distribution in a limited space,allowing radon accumulation and exhalation inside the chamber intuitively and visually.In this study,three radon exhalation rates were defined,and two structural ventilation tubes were designed for the chamber.The consistency of the simulated results with the variation in the radon exhalation rate in a previous experiment or analytical solution was verified.The effects of the vent tube structure and flow rate on the radon uniformity in the chamber;permeability,insertion depth,and flow rate on the radon exhalation rate and the effective diffusion coefficient on back-diffusion were investigated.Based on the results,increasing the inser-tion depth from 1 to 5 cm decreased the effective decay constant by 19.55%,whereas the curve-fitted radon exhalation rate decreased(lower than the initial value)as the deviation from the initial value increased by approximately 7%.Increasing the effective diffusion coefficient from 2.77×10^(-7) to 7.77×10^(-6) m^(2) s^(-1) made the deviation expand from 2.14 to 15.96%.The conclusion is that an increased insertion depth helps reduce leakage in the chamber,subject to notable back-diffusion,and that the closed-loop method is reasonably used for porous media with a low effective diffusion coefficient in view of the back-diffusion effect.The CFD-based simulation is expected to provide guidance for the optimization of the radon exhalation rate measurement method and,thus,the accurate measurement of the radon exhalation rate.

Emergent symmetry in quantum phase transition:From deconfined quantum critical point to gapless quantum spin liquid

The emergence of exotic quantum phenomena in frustrated magnets is rapidly driving the development of quantum many-body physics,raising fundamental questions on the nature of quantum phase transitions.Here we unveil the behaviour of emergent symmetry involving two extraordinarily representative phenomena,i.e.,the deconfined quantum critical point(DQCP)and the quantum spin liquid(QSL)state.Via large-scale tensor network simulations,we study a spatially anisotropic spin-1/2 square-lattice frustrated antiferromagnetic(AFM)model,namely the J1x-J1y-J2 model,which contains anisotropic nearestneighbor couplings J1x,J1y and the next nearest neighbor coupling J2.For small J1y/J1x,by tuning J2,a direct continuous transition between the AFM and valence bond solid phase is observed.With growing J1y/J1x,a gapless QSL phase gradually emerges between the AFM and VBS phases.We observe an emergent O(4)symmetry along the AFM–VBS transition line,which is consistent with the prediction of DQCP theory.Most surprisingly,we find that such an emergent O(4)symmetry holds for the whole QSL–VBS transition line as well.These findings reveal the intrinsic relationship between the QSL and DQCP from categorical symmetry point of view,and strongly constrain the quantum field theory description of the QSL phase.The phase diagram and critical exponents presented in this paper are of direct relevance to future experiments on frustrated magnets and cold atom systems.

Cu-substituted nickel hexacyanoferrate with tunable reaction potentials for superior ammonium ion storage

In this work,a variety of Cu_(x)Ni_(2-x)Fe(CN)_(6)(x=0,0.4,0.8,1.2,1.6,2)cathodes for ammonium ion batteries are prepared and their electrochemical performances are investigated.During the introduction of copper in nickel hexacyanoferrate,the electrochemical performance varies without changing the structure of nickel hexacyanoferrate.The increase of Cu content in nickel hexacyanoferrate leads to the enhancement of reaction potential and capacity.Electrochemical results suggest that the substitution of Cu for Ni has a positive effect on improving the cycling stability and rate capacity of nickel hexacyanoferrate when x in Cu_(x)Ni_(2-x)Fe(CN)_(6)is less than 0.4.Therefore,Cu_(0.4)Ni_(1.6)Fe(CN)_(6)exhibits the best cycling per-formance(capacity retention of 97.54%at 0.3 C)and the highest rate capacity(41.4 mAh g^(-1)at 10 C)in Cu_(x)Ni_(2-x)Fe(CN)_(6).Additionally,the X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)tests also reveal that the structural evolution of Cu_(0.4)Ni_(1.6)Fe(CN)_(6)is highly reversible upon NH_(4)^(+)storage.Therefore,this work proposes a candidate material for ammoniumion batteries and offers a novel avenue for adjusting the operating potential of the material.

Non-contact and full-field online monitoring of curing temperature during the in-situ heating process based on deep learning

Online monitoring of the curing temperature field is essential to improving the quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process of composite parts.Traditional embedded sensor-based technologies have difficulty monitoring the full temperature field or have to introduce heterogeneous items that could have an undesired impact on the part.In this paper,a non-contact,full-field monitoring method based on deep learning that predicts the internal temperature field of composite parts in real time using surface temperature measurements of auxiliary materials is proposed.Using the proposed method,an average temperature monitoring accuracy of 97%is achieved in various heating patterns.In addition,this method also demonstrates satisfying feasibility when a stronger thermal barrier covers the part.This method was experimentally validated during the self-resistance electric heating process,in which the monitoring accuracy reached 93.1%.This method can potentially be applied to automated manufacturing and process control in the composites industry.

CuInS_(2)quantum-dot-modified g-C_(3)N_(4)S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst for hydrogen production and tetracycline degradation

CuInS_(2)quantum-dot(CIS QD)-modified g-C_(3)N_(4)(CN)catalysts(CIS/CN)were prepared with the aid of an in-situ growth process.The as-obtained photocatalysts were explored by measuring their crystallinity,surface morphology,binding energy and light absorption activity.The photocatalytic efficiency of the pho-tocatalysts was evaluated through photocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production and tetracycline(TC)antibiotic degradation under the simulated solar light and visible light respectively.The optimized sample(10CIS/CN)showed the best photocatalytic activity:producing 102.4μmol g^(-1)h^(-1)of hydrogen in 1 h,or degrading 52.16%of TC in 120 min,which were respectively 48 or 3.4 times higher than the photocatalytic activity of CN itself.The enhancement in the efficiency of the composite system was prin-cipally accredited to the enlargement of light absorption,the more effective in charge transfer and the dropping of the charge carrier pair recombination through a formed S-scheme heterojunctional interface.This work is an effort to adjust CN-based polysulfide QD for speedy photocatalysis.The enriched photo-catalytic activity grants a new sense for adjusting the optical properties of CN.

Two-component dimers of ultracold atoms with center-of-mass-momentum dependent interactions

In a previous paper[Phys.Rev.A95,060701(R)(2017)],we demonstrated that a new type of two-body interaction,which depends on the center of mass(CoM)momentum,can be realized for ultracold atoms via laser-modulated magnetic Feshbach resonance(MFR).Further studies(e.g.L He et al,Phys.Rev.Lett.120,045302(2018))show that various interesting phenomena,such as Fulde–Ferrell superfluids,can be induced by scattering between ultracold atoms with this interaction.In this work we investigate the shallow bound states of two ultracold atoms with this type of interaction.We show that when the magnetic field B is below the MFR point B0,two shallow bound states can appear in this system.Namely,a'two-component dimer'or a dimer with pseudo-spin 1/2 can be formed by two atoms.Furthermore,the dispersion curve of the dimer may have either single or double minimums in the CoM momentum space.The latter case can be explained as a result from significant pseudo-spin-orbital coupling(SOC)effects.Our results show that the ultracold gases with CoM momentum dependent interaction may be a candidate for quantum simulations with ultracold two-component molecules,especially the molecule gases with SOC.

NUDT5 promotes the growth,metastasis,and Warburg effect of IDH wild-type glioblastoma multiforme cells by upregulating TRIM47

Objective:To explore the regulatory mechanism of NUDT5 in glioblastoma multiforme(GBM).Methods:GEPIA database was used to predict the expressions of NUDT5 and tripartite motif family proteins 47(TRIM47)in GBM patients.RT-qPCR and Western blot analyses were performed to examine NUDT5 expression in GBM cells.LN-229 cell proliferation,migration as well as invasion were estimated by CCK-8,colony formation,wound healing,and Transwell assays following interference with NUDT5.ECAR assay,L-lactic acid kit,glucose detection kit,and ATP detection kit were applied for the detection of glycolysis-related indexes.Co-immunoprecipitation experiment was carried out to verify the relationship between NUDT5 and TRIM47.Results:GEPIA database showed that NUDT5 expression was significantly increased in GBM patients.Inhibiting the expression of NUDT5 in GBM cells significantly suppressed the viability,proliferation,invasion,migration,and glycolysis of GBM cells.Moreover,TRIM47 was highly expressed in GBM cells and interacted with NUDT5.Overexpression of TRIM47 partially reversed the inhibitory effect of NUDT5 downregulation on the proliferation,metastasis,and glycolysis of GBM cells.Conclusions:NUDT5 promotes the growth,metastasis,and Warburg effect of GBM cells by upregulating TRIM47.Both NUDT5 and TRIM47 can be used as targets for GMB treatment.

Role of autoreactive Tc17 cells in the pathogenesis of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

Background:The pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis(MS)and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE-an animal model of MS)is primarily mediated by T cells.However,recent studies have only focused on interleukin(IL)-17-secreting CD4^(+)T-helper cells,also known as Th17 cells.This study aimed to compare Th17 cells and IL-17-secreting CD8^(+)T-cytotoxic cells(Tc17)in the context of MS/EAE.Methods:Female C57BL/6 mice were immunized with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein peptides 35-55(MOG35-55),pertussis toxin,and complete Freund's adjuvant to establish the EAE animal model.T cells were isolated from the spleen(12-14 days postimmunization).CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T cells were purified using isolation kit and then differentiated into Th17 and Tc17,respectively,using MOG35-55 and IL-23.The secretion levels of interferon-(IFN-γ)and IL-17 were measured via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using cultured CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)T cell supernatants.The pathogenicity of Tc17 and Th17 cells was assessed through adoptive transfer(tEAE),with the clinical course assessed using an EAE score(0-5).Hematoxylin and eosin as well as Luxol fast blue staining were used to examine the spinal cord.Purified CD8^(+)CD3^(+)and CD4^(+)CD3^(+)cells differentiated into Tc17 and Th17 cells,respectively,were stimulated with MOG35-55 peptide for proliferation assays.Results:The results showed that Tc17 cells(15,951±19855VS.55,709±4196cpm;p<0.050)exhibited a weaker response to highest dose(20μg/mL)MOG35-55 than Th17 cells.However,this response was not dependent on Th17 cells.After the 48h stimulation,at the highest dose(20μg/mL)of MOG35-55.Tc17 cells secreted lower levels of IFN-(280.00±15.00vs.556.67±15.28pg/mL,p<0.050)and IL-17(102.67±5.86 pg/mL vs.288.33±12.58 pg/mL;p<0.050)than Th17 cells.Similar patterns were observed for IFN-γsecretion at 96 and 144h.Furthermore,Tc17 cell-induced tEAE mice exhibited similar EAE scores to Th17 cell-induced tEAE mice and also showed similar inflammation and demyelination.Conclusion:The degree of pathogenicity of Tc1

Tough lanthanide luminescent hydrogel for nitroaromatics detection

Luminescent hydrogels have received considerable attention in the application of sensors.Nitroaro matics are harmful to human health and can be carcinogenic.Some skin allergies and central nervous system injuries may also be attributed to the over exposure to nitroaromatics.Thus,nitroaromatics sensor with fast detection and low detection limit is highly desirable.Herein,novel tough hydrogels were prepared by introducing hydrogen bonds and covalent bonds into the interpenetrating networks of modified chitosan and poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) via frozen-thawing induced chemical cross-linking.The synthesized hydrogels exhibit high mechanical strength(0.23 MPa tensile strength at 140% tensile strain,1.0 MPa compressive strength at 80% compressive strain).Strong green emission was realized by energy transfer from the modified chitosan to Tb^(3+)via the so-called "antenna effect." The prepared luminescent hydrogels show an excellent detection effect on nitroaromatic compounds and its detection limit can reach ppm-level.The hydrogels also exhibit good reversibility and a fast "off-on" fluorescence switching process.This work may open up a new way for the development of stable,rapid,and reusable sensors for the detection of harmful nitroaromatics.

A survey of energy-efficient strategies for federated learning in mobile edge computing

With the booming development of fifth-generation network technology and Internet of Things,the number of end-user devices(EDs)and diverse applications is surging,resulting in massive data generated at the edge of networks.To process these data eficiently,the innovative mobile edge computing(MEC)framework has emerged to guarantee low latency and enable eficient computing close to the user traffic.Recently,federated learning(FL)has demonstrated its empirical success in edge computing due to its privacy-preserving advantages.Thus,it becomes a promising solution for analyzing and processing distributed data on EDs in various machine learning tasks,which are the major workloads in MEC.Unfortunately,EDs are typically powered by batteries with limited capacity,which brings challenges when performing energy-intensive FL tasks.To address these challenges,many strategies have been proposed to save energy in FL.Considering the absence of a survey that thoroughly summarizes and classifies these strategies,in this paper,we provide a comprehensive survey of recent advances in energy-efficient strategies for FL in MEC.Specifically,we first introduce the system model and energy consumption models in FL,in terms of computation and communication.Then we analyze the challenges regarding improving energy efficiency and summarize the energy-efficient strategies from three perspectives:learning-based,resource allocation,and client selection.We conduct a detailed analysis of these strategies,comparing their advantages and disadvantages.Additionally,we visually illustrate the impact of these strategies on the performance of FL by showcasing experimental results.Finally,several potential future research directions for energy-efficient FL are discussed.
