Geospatial characteristics of fire occurrences in southern hemispheric Africa and Madagascar during 2001-2020

For this study of long-term spatial patterns and trends of active fires in southern hemispheric Africa and on Madagascar from 2001 to 2020,active fire data from the MODIS FIRMS global fire data products were *** annual center of fire concentration tended to migrate toward the preserved rainforests and nature conservation areas in the Congo Basin and the mountain forests on the northeastern coast of *** frequency varied seasonally at both study *** used geo statistical analysis techniques,such as measures of dispersion and emerging hot spot analysis,to reveal long-term trends in spatial patterns of fire *** southern hemispheric Africa,the observed active fires tended to drift northward toward the Zambia-DRC border in the Congo *** northward migration progressed toward humid rainforests,which were better suited to sustaining repeated fire *** Madagascar,the observed active fires tended to migrate toward the east coast in protected mountain *** spatial patterns of long-term trends showed a concentration of fires in the tropical regions of southern hemispheric ***,smaller clusters of new hot spots were located over eastern South Africa,overlapping with undifferentiated *** Madagascar,both hot and cold spots were identified and were separated by the highland region in the center of the *** of the eastern island was characterized by cold spots that received less precipitation than did the rest of the *** presence of increasing hots spots in the densely vegetated areas highlights the urgent need for fire prevention and management in this region.

Modeling the gene delivery process of the needle array-based tissue nanotransfection

Hollow needle array-based tissue nanotransfection(TNT)presents an in vivo transfection approach that directly translocate exogeneous genes to target tissues by using electric *** this work,the gene delivery process of TNT was simulated and experimentally *** adopted the asymptotic method and cell-array-based model to investigate the electroporation behaviors of cells within the skin *** distribution of nonuniform electric field across the skin results in various electroporation behavior for each *** underneath the hollow microchannels of the needle exhibited the highest total pore numbers compared to others due to the stronger localized electric *** percentage of electroporated cells within the skin structure,with pore radius over 10 nm,increases from 25%to 82%as the applied voltage increases from 100 to 150 V/***,the gene delivery behavior across the skin tissue was investigated through the multilayer-stack-based *** delivery distance increased nonlinearly as the applied voltage and pulse number increased,which mainly depends on the diffusion characteristics and electric conductivity of each *** was also found that the skin is required to be exfoliated prior to the TNT procedure to enhance the delivery *** work provides the foundation for transition from the study of murine skin to translation use in large animals and human settings.

Assessing Risk in Chemical Plant with Pattern Matching

This paper discusses potential application of fuzzy set theory,more specifically, pattern matching, in assessing risk in chemicalplants. Risk factors have been evaluated using linguisticrepresentations of the quantity of the hazardous substance involved,its frequency of interaction with the environment, severity of itsimpact and the uncertainty involved in its detection in advance. Foreach linguistic value there is a corresponding membership functionranging over a universe of discourse. The risk scenario created by ahazard/hazardous situation having highest degree of featural value istaken as the known pattern.

Pharmacological studies on Buchanania lanzan Spreng.-A focus on wound healing with particular reference to anti-biofilm properties

Objective:To evaluate the wound healing activity of the methanolic root extract of Buchanania lanzan Spreng.(***),with a focus on antimicrobial and anti-biofilm ***:The extract was evaluated for its wound healing properties(excision and incision models)as evident from the analysis of tensile strength and wound *** extract was also screened for antibacterial properties against different Cram positive and Gram negative bacterial *** was also studied for its effect on biofilm formation and disruption of preformed *** synergistic effect of *** was determined in combination with ***:Topical application of ***(10%w/w ointment)significantly increased(40.84%)the tensile strength in the incision wound *** also showed significant wound healing activity in excision model and such significant activity was observed from the 9th *** Soframycin displayed significant wound healing activity from the 6th *** was found that root extracts of *** revealed significant inhibition against all tested *** displayed antimicrobial activity against Cram positive(MIC 0.625 mg/mL)and Cram negative(MIC0.625-1.25 mg/mL).*** was able to reduce biofilm formation and also caused disruption of preformed biofilms in a manner similar to ***,gentamicin was found to be ineffective against biofilms formed by Gram negative *** to the fractional inhibitory concentration index,*** displayed synergistic activity when it was combined with ***:From this study it may be concluded that the root extract of *** revealed significant wound healing potential,which was supported and well correlated with pronounced antibacterial activity of the tested plant parts.

Beach pea or beach cowpea(Vigna marina(Burm.)Merr.)belongs to the family *** is a close relative of cultivated Vigna species such as adzuki bean(***),cowpea(***),mung bean(***),and blackgram(***),and is distributed throughout the *** its ability to tolerate salt stress,beach pea has great potential to contribute salt-tolerance genes for developing salt-tolerant cultivars in cultivated Vigna ***,it is still underutilized in Vigna breeding programs.A draft genome sequence of beach pea was generated using a high-throughput next-generation sequencing platform,yielding 23.7 Gb of sequence from 79,929,868 filtered reads.A de novo genome assembly containing 68,731 scaffolds gave an N50 length of 10,272 bp and the assembled sequences totaled 365.6 Mb.A total of 35,448 SSRs,including 3574 compound SSRs,were identified and primer pairs for most of these SSRs were *** analysis identified 50,670 genes with mean coding sequence length 1042 *** analysis revealed highest sequence similarity with ***,followed by *** with the *** genome revealed 16,699 SNPs and 2253 InDels and comparison with the *** genome revealed 17,538 SNPs and 2300 *** our knowledge this is the first draft genome sequence of beach pea derived from an accession(ANBp-14-03)adapted locally in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of *** draft genome sequence may facilitate the genetic enhancement in cultivated Vigna species.

A general, rapid and solvent-free approach to fabricating nanostructured polymer surfaces

A general, rapid and solvent-free approach is proposed to fabricate nanostructured polymer surfaces by coupling ultrasonic vi- bration and anodized aluminum oxide templating. With our approach, hollow nanorods or nanofibers with controlled diameter and length are prepared on polymer surfaces. The whole fabrication process is completed in ～30 s and equally applicable to polymers of different crystalline structures. The wettability of the as-fabricated polymer surfaces （being hydrophilic, hydro- phobic, highly hydrophobic or even superhydrophobic） is readily regulated by adjusting the welding time from 0 s to a maxi- mum of 10 s. Our approach can be a promising industrial basis for manufacturing functional nanomaterials in the fields of electronics, optics, sensors, biology, medicine, coating, or fluidic technologies.

Forecasting flooding hazards is a very effective non-engineering measure for flood ***,the commonly used forecasting method in simulating flash flood events is through a watershed hydrological *** Asia-Pacific countries like the Philippines are prone to frequent hydrometeorological hazards such as tropical cyclones,resulting in frequent heavy rainfall ***,most rivers in the many basins lack water flow observation data,which makes it challenging to use lumped and data-driven models for flash flood *** the continuous progress of remote sensing(RS)and geographic information system(GIS)techniques,the physically-based distributed hydrological model(PBDHMs)has rapidly *** can directly determine the model parameters according to the underlying surface characteristics from remotely-sensed data,which makes it possible for flood forecasting in areas with little to virtually no *** this study,the Matina River basin in Davao City was selected as a case study in simulating a small data-poor basin in the *** Liuxihe model was used to formulate a forecasting scheme and simulated the past flash flood *** results show that there is a good correspondence between the past heavy rainfall events and their corresponding simulated river *** results conform to the hydrological regularities,which can be used for flood forecasting and can serve as a baseline for the development of a flood forecasting system in the rivers of Davao City and elsewhere.

Microbiota-mediated shaping of mouse spleen structure and immune function characterized by scRNA-seq and Stereo-seq

针对已有公共备用变压器相关研究未计及负载差异性的现状,提出基于公共备用模式建立配电变压器组可靠性Markov模型和公共备用规划模型。以随机故障停电损失费用、备用投资费用和安装投运费用之和最小为目标,建立配电变压器组公共备用规划模型,并采用枚举解析法求解该模型。结合RBTS Bus2系统的变压器组进行算例分析,比较不同备用数量下的经济性指标以得到最优备用方案,并对安装投运时间进行灵敏度分析。通过算例分析验证了所提方法的实用性和有效性。
