Effects of particle size on the triboelectrification phenomenon in pharmaceutical excipients:Experiments and multi-scale modeling

Particle sizes play a major role to mediate charge transfer, both between identical and different material surfaces. The study probes into the probable mechanism that actuates opposite polarities between two different size fractions of the same material by analyzing the charge transfer patterns of two different sizes of microcrystalline cellulose(MCC). Quantum scale calculations confirmed alteration of charge transfer capacities due to variation of moisture content predicted by multiple surface and bulk analytical techniques. Discrete Element Method(DEM) based multi-scale computational models pertinent to predict charge transfer capacities were further implemented, and the results were in accordance to the experimental charge profiles.

Motivated by the widespread applications of nanofluids,a nanofluid model is proposed which focuses on uniform magnetohydrodynamic(MHD)boundary layer flow over a non-linear stretching sheet,incorporating the Casson model for blood-based nanofluid while accounting for viscous and Ohmic dissipation effects under the cases of Constant Surface Temperature(CST)and Prescribed Surface Temperature(PST).The study employs a two-phase model for the nanofluid,coupled with thermophoresis and Brownian motion,to analyze the effects of key fluid parameters such as thermophoresis,Brownian motion,slip velocity,Schmidt number,Eckert number,magnetic parameter,and non-linear stretching parameter on the velocity,concentration,and temperature profiles of the *** proposed model is novel as it simultaneously considers the impact of thermophoresis and Brownian motion,along with Ohmic and viscous dissipation effects,in both CST and PST scenarios for blood-based Casson *** numerical technique built into MATLAB’s bvp4c module is utilized to solve the governing system of coupled differential equations,revealing that the concentration of nanoparticles decreases with increasing thermophoresis and Brownian motion parameters while the temperature of the nanofluid ***,a higher Eckert number is found to reduce the nanofluid temperature.A comparative analysis between CST and PST scenarios is also undertaken,which highlights the significant influence of these factors on the fluid’s *** findings have potential applications in biomedical processes to enhance fluid velocity and heat transfer rates,ultimately improving patient outcomes.

BACKGROUND At our academic tertiary care medical center, we have noted patients referred for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) who increasingly require advanced cannulation techniques. This trend is noted despite increased endoscopist experience and annual ERCP volume over the same *** To evaluate this phenomenon of perceived escalation in complexity of cannulation at ERCP and assessed potential underlying *** Demographic/clinical variables and records of ERCP patients at the beginning(2008), middle(2013) and end(2018) of the last decade were reviewed retrospectively. Cannulation approaches were classified as "standard" or "advanced" and duodenoscope position was labeled as "standard"(short position) or "non-standard"(e.g., long, semi-long).RESULTS Patients undergoing ERCP were older in 2018 compared to 2008(69.7 ± 15.2 years vs 55.1 ± 14.7, P 4 cm, pancreatic uncinate mass, and bilirubin > 10 mg/d L predicted use of advanced cannulation techniques(P < 0.03 for each).CONCLUSION Complexity of cannulation at ERCP has sharply increased over the past 5 years, with an increased proportion of elderly patients and those with malignancy requiring advanced cannulation approaches. These data suggest that complexity of cannulation at ERCP may be predicted based on patient/ampulla characteristics. This may inform selection of experienced, high-volume endoscopists to perform these complex procedures.

AIM: To evaluate the new Retro View^(TM) colonoscope and compare its ability to detect simulated polyps "hidden" behind colonic folds with that of a conventional colonoscope, utilizing anatomic colon ***: Three anatomic colon models were prepared,with twelve simulated polyps "hidden" behind haustral folds and five placed in easily viewed locations in each model. Five blinded endoscopists examined two colon models in random order with the conventional or Retro View^(TM) colonoscope, utilizing standard withdrawal technique. The third colon model was then examined with the Retro View^(TM) colonoscope withdrawn initially in retroflexion and then in standard withdrawal. Polyp detection rates during standard and retroflexed withdrawal of the conventional and Retro View^(TM) colonoscopes were determined. Polyp detection rates for combined standard and retroflexed withdrawal(combination withdrawal) with the Retro View^(TM) colonoscope were also ***: For hidden polyps, retroflexed withdrawal using the Retro View^(TM) colonoscope detected more polyps than the conventional colonoscope in standard withdrawal(85% vs 12%, P = 0.0001). For hidden polyps, combination withdrawal with the Retro View^(TM) colonoscope detected more polyps than the conventional colonoscope in standard withdrawal(93% vs 12%, P ≤ 0.0001). The Retro View^(TM) colonoscope in "combination withdrawal" was superior to other methods in detecting all(hidden + easily visible) polyps, with successful detection of 80 of 85 polyps(94%) compared to 28(32%) polyps detected by the conventional colonoscope in standard withdrawal(P < 0.0001) and 67(79%) polyps detected by the Retro View^(TM) colonoscope in retroflexed withdrawal alone(P < 0.01). The radio-frequency (RF) performance of the p-type NiO-pocket based β-Ga_(2)O_(3)/black phosphorous heterostructureMOSFET has been evaluated. The key figure of merits (FOMs) for device performance evaluation include the transconductance(gm) gate dependent intrinsic-capacitances (Cgd and Cgs), cutoff frequency (fT), gain bandwidth (GBW) product and output-conductance(gd). Similarly, power-gain (Gp), power added efficiency (PAE), and output power (POUT) are also investigated for largesignalcontinuous-wave (CW) RF performance evaluation. The motive behind the study is to improve the β-Ga_(2)O_(3) MOS deviceperformance along with a reduction in power losses and device associated leakages. To show the applicability of the designeddevice in RF applications, its RF FOMs are analyzed. With the outline characteristics of the ultrathin black phosphorous layer belowthe β-Ga_(2)O_(3) channel region, the proposed device results in 1.09 times improvement in fT, with 0.7 times lower Cgs, and 3.27dB improved GP in comparison to the NiO-GO MOSFET. The results indicate that the designed NiO-GO/BP MOSFET has betterRF performance with improved power gain and low leakages.
