Four luminescent cyclometalated.irid.um(Ⅲ) d.pyrid.quinoxaline complexes append.d.with an ind.le moiety [Ir(N^C)2(N^N)] (PF6) (HN^C = 2-phenylpyrid.ne, Hppy; N^N = 2-(N-(2-(ind.le-3-acetamid.)ethyl)aminocarbonyl)d.pyrid.[3,2-f:2′,3′-h]quinox- aline, d.qC2ind.le (1a), N^N = 2-(N-(6-(ind.le-3-acetamid.)hexyl)aminocarbonyl)d.pyrid.[3,2-f:2′,3′-h]quinoxaline, d.qC6ind.le (1b); HN^C = 7,8-benzoquinoline, Hbzq, N^N = d.qC2ind.le (2a), N^N = d.qC6ind.le (2b)) have been synthesized.and.characterized. Upon irrad.ation, all the complexes d.splayed.mod.rately intense and.long-lived.luminescence und.r ambient cond.-tions and.in 77 K glass. On the basis of the photophysical d.ta, the emission of the complexes has been assigned.to an excited.state of triplet metal-to-ligand.charge-transfer (3MLCT) ((d.(Ir)→π*(N^N)) character. Cyclic voltammetric stud.es revealed.ind.le-based.and.irid.um-based.oxid.tions at ca. +1.10 V and.+1.24 V vs. SCE, respectively, and.ligand.based.red.ctions at ca. -1.07 to-2.29 V vs. SCE. The interactions of the complexes with an ind.le-bind.ng protein, bovine serum albumin (BSA), have been examined.by emission titrations.

Crosslinking treatment of collagen has often been used.to improve the biological stability and.mechanical properties of 3d.porous collagen scaffold.. However, accompanying these improvements, the collagen fibril surface becomes hyd.ophobic nature resulting in a red.ced.surface wettability. The wetting of the collagen fibril by culture med.um is red.ced.and.it is d.fficult for the med.um to d.ffuse into the 3d.structure of a porous collagen scaffold. This paper reports a ＂perfusion processing＂ strategy using ozone to improve the surface wettability of chemical crosslinked.collagen scaffold.. Surface wettability, surface composition and.biological stability were analyzed.to evaluate the effectiveness of this surface processing strategy. It was observed.that ozone perfusion processing improved.surface wettability for both exterior and.interior surfaces of the porous 3d.collagen scaffold. The improvement in wettability is attributed.to the incorporation of oxygen-containing functional groups onto the surface of the collagen fibrils, as confirmed.by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy （XPS） analysis. This lead. to a significant improvement in water taking capability without compromising the bulk biological stability and.mechanical properties, and.confirms that ozone perfusion processing is an effective tool to mod.fy the wettability both for interior and.exterior surfaces throughout the scaffold.

Leukemia is the d.sord.r of hematopoietic cell d.velopment and.is characterized.by an uncoupling of cell proliferation and.d.fferentiation. There is a pressing need.for the d.velopment of novel tactics for leukemia therapy as conventional treatments often have severe ad.erse sid. effects. Tryptanthrin （6,12-d.hyd.o-6,12-d.oxoind.lo- （2,1-b）-quinazoline） is a naturally-occurring, weakly basic alkaloid.isolated.from the d.ied.roots of med.cinal ind.go plants （Ban-Lan-Gen）. It has been reported.to have various biological and.pharmacological activities, includ.ng anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, immunomod.latory and.anti-tumor effects. However, its mod.latory effects and.action mechanisms on myeloid.cells remain poorly und.rstood. In this stud., tryptanthrin was shown to suppress the proliferation of the murine myeloid.leukemia WEHI-3B JCS cells in a d.se- and.time-d.pend.nt manner. It also significantly red.ced.the growth of WEHI-3B JCS cells in vivo in syngeneic BALB/c mice. However, it exhibited.no significant d.rect cytotoxicity on normal murine peritoneal macrophages. Flow cytometric analysis showed.an obvious cell cycle arrest of the tryptanthrin-treated.WEHI-3B JCS cells at the G0/G1 phase. The expression of cyclin d., d., Cd. 2, 4 and.6 genes in WEHI-3B JCS cells was found.to be d.wn-regulated.at 24 h as measured.by RT-PCR. Morphological and.functional stud.es revealed.that tryptanthrin could.ind.ce d.fferentiation in WEHI-3B JCS cells, as shown by the increases in vacuolation, cellular granularity and.NBT-red.cing activity in tryptanthrin-treated.cells. Collectively, our find.ngs suggest that tryptanthrin might exert its anti-tumor effect on the murine myelomonocytic leukemia WEHI-3B JCS cells by causing cell cycle arrest and.by triggering cell d.fferentiation.

There are basically four stages of a person＇s thinking. The first is a person＇s quest for meaning. It is a time for questions. Socrates said.that an unexamined.life is not worth living. Yet in America, living an examined.life is rare. The challenge is to live an examined.life in a culture of unexamined.lives. The second.stage is a time for answers. We cannot avoid.the realism of evil, yet tod.y, few have seriously examined.absolute evil. The third.stage is a time for confirmation and.assurances to our answers of evil and.pain. The fourth stage is the time for commitment and.beginning of the journey. For the simple person who has all the answers, there is no further journey. At the other extreme is the intellectual who never has all the answers. There is always a question for another d.y and.there is never any really settled.resolution on what he or she believes or why. There are two basic philosophical systems that have influenced.our thinking about morals and.about law. The first is naturalism, which began in the 6th century B.C., in the Greek Ionian culture with a certain set of cosmologies, most of which were naturalistic in nature where reality was expressed.in terms of water, fire, earth, or air. Naturalism has experienced.great growth since in the Enlightenment. However, the notion at the heart of morality and.law is id.alism. Ind.ed. for much of the history of legal thought, the connection between morality and.law was found.in id.alism. It is within the philosophy of id.alism that we find.the history of natural law theory. This matters because how one thinks about the nature and.purpose of law, what forms the found.tion of law and.how it is mad., either legislatively or through the courts is one of the most elusive and.persistent problems in the entire range of human thought. This article explores some of that history.
