F(R) gravity in the early Universe: electroweak phase transition and chameleon mechanism

It is widely believed that the screening mechanism is an essential feature for the modified gravity theory. Although this mechanism has been examined thoroughly in the past decade, their analyses are based on a conventional fluid prescription for the matter-sector configuration. In this paper, we demonstrate a new formulation of the chameleon mechanism in F(R) gravity theory, to shed light on quantum-field theoretical effects on the chameleon mechanism as well as the related scalaron physics, induced by the matter sector. We show a possibility that the chameleon mechanism is absent in the early Universe based on a scale-invariant-extended scenario beyond the standard model of particle physics, in which a realistic electroweak phase transition, yielding the right amount of baryon asymmetry of Universe today, simultaneously breaks the scale invariance in the early Universe. We also briefly discuss the oscillation of the scalaron field and indirect generation of non-tensorial gravitational waves induced by the electroweak phase transition.

This fundamental study investigates how“super-resolution”technology based on sparse modeling,which has attracted attention in various fields,can be applied to the information-oriented construction of temporary soil-retaining *** machine learning process adopted here is based on the analytical results of numerical computations that involve many preliminary assumptions related to soilretaining walls,rather than the collection of images utilized in the image reconstruction ***,bases for vectors related to the displacement of retaining walls are generated using efficient inverse analysis and“super-resolution”processing from sparse amounts of physical observation *** purpose is to improve the properties of the inverse problem by artificial interpolation based on numerical *** has been shown that the inverse analysis related to the displacement of retaining walls can be performed efficiently and that highly accurate predictions can be achieved even with limited physical *** general,the inverse analysis of retaining walls is an ill-posed ***,if the number of apparent observations reconverted by“super-resolution”technology exceeds the number of unknown parameters,then the displacement distribution of a retaining wall can be estimated *** original idea is to break down the inverse problem into two separate problems by addressing the earth pressure distribution acting on the retaining *** makes it possible to identify the part to which the nonlinear inverse problem can be applied and to facilitate the efficient estimation and interpretation of the results.

A method for estimating the errors in many-light rendering with supersampling

In many-light rendering, a variety of visual and illumination effects, including anti-aliasing,depth of field, volumetric scattering, and subsurface scattering, are combined to create a number of virtual point lights(VPLs). This is done in order to simplify computation of the resulting illumination. Naive approaches that sum the direct illumination from many VPLs are computationally expensive;scalable methods can be computed more efficiently by clustering VPLs, and then estimating their sum by sampling a small number of VPLs. Although significant speed-up has been achieved using scalable methods, clustering leads to uncontrollable errors, resulting in noise in the rendered images. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the estimation accuracy of manylight rendering involving such visual and illumination effects. We demonstrate that our method can improve the estimation accuracy by a factor of 2.3 over the previous method.

Advanced therapies for patients with mild-to-severe ulcerative colitis(UC)may result in treatment *** examined whether the lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio(L/m ratio)could predict the failure of advanced *** retrospective,observational,cohort study included 73 patients who were treated with advanced therapies at the Hamamatsu University School of medicine(Shizuoka,Japan)between February 2011 and November *** patients were divided into the nonfailure and failure groups,and their leukocyte counts and ratios before induction were *** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the prognostic *** therapies failed within 3 months in 15(20.5%)*** the L/m ratio was significantly lower in the failure group than in the non-failure group(P=0.004).Receiveroperating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis revealed that an L/m ratio of ≤3.417 was predictive of treatment failure;the area under the curve(AUC)was 0.747(95%CI,0.620–0.874).Kaplan–meier analysis revealed that the failure-free rate was significantly lower in the group with an L/m ratio of≤3.417 than in the group with an L/m ratio of>3.417(log-rank test P=0.002).Cox proportional hazard regression analysis identified an L/m ratio of≤3.417 as an independent risk factor for failure within 3 months after the induction of advanced ***,ROC analysis of patients who did not receive immunomodulators also revealed that the cut-off L/m ratio was 3.417 and the AUC was 0.796(95%CI,0.666–0.925).In patients receiving advanced therapies for active UC,the L/m ratio can predict treatment failure within 3 months.L/m ratios could facilitate the transition from advanced therapies to subsequent treatments.

We propose a novel on-chip 3D cell rotation method based on a vibration-induced *** circular vibration is applied to a microchip with micropillar patterns,a highly localized whirling flow is induced around the *** direction and velocity of this flow can be controlled by changing the direction and amplitude of the applied ***,this flow can be induced on an open chip *** this study,we adopted a microchip with three micropillars arranged in a triangular configuration and an xyz piezoelectric actuator to apply the circular *** the centre of the micropillars,the interference of the vibration-induced flows originating from the individual micropillars induces rotational ***,a biological cell placed at this centre rotates under the influence of the *** three-plane circular vibrations in the xy,xz or yz plane,the cell can rotate in both the focal and vertical planes of the *** this 3D cell rotation method,we measured the rotational speeds of mouse oocytes in the focal and vertical planes as 63.7±4.0°s^(−1) and 3.5±2.1°s^(−1),***,we demonstrated the transportation and rotation of the mouse oocytes and re-positioned their nuclei into a position observable by microscope.

在氢经济的背景下,氨分解在制氢中起着重要作用.铁基催化剂因价格低廉且活性适中而备受欢迎,对大规模应用具有吸引力.然而,铁基催化剂向更高活性Fe_(x)N物种的转化较慢,导致诱导期延长.为了解决该问题,本文研究了在氨分解中添加Pt对Fe_(x)N形成的影响.结果表明,即使添加少量(0.1 wt%)Pt,也能显著提高Fe_(x)N的形成速率,使其增加3倍以上.Pt通过反溢流促进H_(2)脱附,相反,反溢流暴露出更多发生氮化的Fe表面位点,导致Fe_(x)N的形成.高角度环形暗场扫描透射电子显微镜、X射线衍射和原位X射线吸收光谱表征揭示了Fe2N活性物质的形成.H_(2)程序升温脱附、H_(2)程序升温还原和原位X射线吸收谱证实了氢反溢流和溢流效应的存在.总之,本文加深了对铁催化剂在氨分解中活性物种形成机制的理解,为提高其催化性能提供了一个简单策略.

Two phenolamides （PAs）, p-coumaroylputrescine and feruloylputrescine strongly accumulate in rice （Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare） leaves subjected to attack of chewing and sucking herbivores. Here we identified and characterized in vitro three novel rice genes that mediated coumaroyI-CoA/ feruloyI-CoA conjugation to polyamines, putrescine and agmatine. Interestingly, two genes were highly specific for their polyamine substrates, encoding putresdne N-hydrox- ycinnamoyltransferase and agmatine N-hydroxycinnamoyl- transferase, while the third enzyme could use both polyamines and it was therefore annotated as putrescine/ agmatine N-hydroxycinnamoyltransferase. All genes were preferentially expressed in rice roots and developing flowers, and in addition, the putrescine/agmatine N-hydroxycinnamoyl- transferase transcripts were strongly induced by wounding in the young rice leaves. Because the wound response of this gene was only partially suppressed in the jasmonoyI-L-isoleucine deficient plants （Osjarl）, it suggests that its upregulation （as well as inducible PAs in rice） may be largely independent of jasmonoyI-L-isoleucine signaling pathway. The finding of three closely related genes with a similar and/or overlapping activity in PA biosynthesis provides another striking example of rapid diversification of plant metabolism in response to environmental stresses in nature.
