Analysis of Determinants for an Enhanced and Long-lasting Coastal Convective System by Means of a Case Study(26 July 2011)

A precipitation system developed continuously along the western coastline of the Korean Peninsula and created considerable precipitation both along the coast and inland on 26 July 2011. In this study, the causes for this nearshore convective system are investigated from observations and the results of model experiments. Three-dimensional radar fields clearly show that a change of wind at the surface border played an important role in the development of the nearshore convection system. The simulation results, which are very similar to the observations, show that the surface border generated and maintained the convergence zone. The roughness change enhanced the convergence, and the interaction between the deepening cold pool and downward flow maintained the convergence zone. The surface mechanical discontinuity affected by the roughness change between sea and land formed the convergence (gradient of wind stress), which induced momentum transfer to the upper layer. The cold pool created a steep gradient of potential temperature and provided the reason for the propagated convergence zone with the downward flow. The maximum value of the surface change factor, which comprises the influencing factors for the long-lasting convective system, reflects the enhancement of the system at the coast.

The diagnosis of gastric metastasis from lung cancer is relatively rare in living *** describe a case of Type 4 tumor-like metastasis due to primary lung cancer diagnosed with immunohistochemical staining while the patient was alive.A 68-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of epigastric *** endoscopy revealed a Type 4 tumor and the histological examination showed poorly differentiated *** chest X-ray showed mass shadow in the right upper lung *** resected specimens showed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma.,The diagnosis of gastric metastasis from lung cancer was made by immunohistochemical staining of the lung and gastric tumors which showed positive staining for Thyroid transcriptional *** of gastric metastasis,especially Type 4 metastasis by lung cancer is diff ***,immunohistochemical staining is very helpful for diagnosis of primary lung cancer metastasis at sites such as the gastrointestinal tract which are not normally prone to metastatis.

miR-122-5p as a novel biomarker for alpha-fetoproteinproducing gastric cancer

AIM To investigate the clinical utility of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)-producing gastric cancer(AFPGC)-specific microRNA(mi RNA)for monitoring and prognostic prediction of *** We performed a comprehensive miRNA array-based approach to compare miRNA expression levels between AFP-positive and AFP-negative cells in three patients with primary *** next examined the expression levels of the selected miRNAs in five AFPGC and ten non-AFPGC tissue samples by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction to validate their *** also investigated the expression levels of the selected miRNA not only in tissue but also in plasma ***,we investigated the relationship between plasma AFP levels and plasma selected miRNA expression levels,and also investigated the correlation of the selected miRNA expression levels and malignant *** Among the five miRNAs selected from the miRNA array results,the expression levels of miR-122-5p were significantly higher in the AFPGC patients than in the non-AFPGC patients(P<0.05).In tissue samples,mi R-122-5p expression level tended to be lower in the non-AFPGC tissue than the normal gastric ***,in the AFPGC tissue,miR-122-5p expression level was significantly higher in the AFPGC tissue than both the normal gastric mucosa and the nonAFPGC tissue samples(P<0.05).Plasma mi R-122-5p expression levels were also significantly higher in the AFPGC patients than the health volunteers and the nonAFPGC patients(P<0.05)and were strongly correlated with plasma AFP levels(r=0.7975,P<0.0001).Moreover,the correlation of miR-122-5p expression in tissue samples with malignant potential was stronger than that of plasma AFP level in the AFPGC *** contrast,no correlation was found between mi R-122-5p expression levels and liver metastasis in the non-AFPGC *** miR-122-5p might be a useful biomarker for early detection and disease monitoring in AFPGC.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase(DHODH)is a central enzyme of the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway and is a promising drug target for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune *** study presents the identification of a potent DHODH inhibitor by proteomic ***-based screening revealed that NPD723,which is reduced to H-006 in cells,strongly induces myeloid differentiation and inhibits cell growth in HL-60 cells.H-006 also suppressed the growth of various cancer *** profiling of NPD723-treated cells in ChemProteoBase showed that NPD723 was clustered with DHODH inhibitors.H-006 potently inhibited human DHODH activity in vitro,whereas NPD723 was approximately 400 times less active than H-006.H-006-induced cell death was rescued by the addition of the DHODH product orotic ***,metabolome analysis revealed that H-006 treatment promotes marked accumulation of the DHODH substrate dihydroorotic *** results suggest that NPD723 is reduced in cells to its active metabolite H-006,which then targets DHODH and suppresses cancer cell ***,H-006-related drugs represent a potentially powerful treatment for cancer and other diseases.

Social interaction is known to alter behavior and emotional responses to various events. It has been reported that when fear-conditioned animals are put in a fear extinction paradigm with non-fearful conspecifics (pair-exposure), freezing behavior decreases compared to a solitary situation. However, it remains unclear whether pair-exposure during fear extinction is persistently effective in reducing the freezing response. In this study, we examined whether the effect of pair-exposure could be persistently effective on cued and contextual fear extinction. The reduction of the fear compared to the solitary condition was transiently observed only in the cued fear extinction with no difference in the subsequent recall session. We also found that the correlation between corticosterone levels and freezing behavior during extinction was disrupted in the pair-exposure situation. These results suggest that pair-exposure reduces freezing behavior in cued fear extinction, although this fear response reduction is not persistent. The pair-exposure changed an association between corticosterone levels and freezing behavior during extinction.
