Physicochemical and in-vitro release characteristics of vitamin C-loaded antioxidant orally disintegrating films with different catechin levels

To develop a convenient food formulation for supplying antioxidants, hyaluronic acid (HA)-based orally dis-integrating film (ODF) containing vitamin C (Vit C) and catechin (CAT) with various molar ratios (Vit C:CAT, 1:0, 1:0.2, 1:0.4, 1:0.6, 1:0.8 and 1:1.0, by name of CAT0, CAT0.2, CAT0.4, CAT0.6, CAT0.8 and CAT1.0, respec-tively) were prepared, and the physico-chemical, and sensory properties of the films were analyzed. In addition, the release properties of the Vit C and CAT in the films were also evaluated. In the results, there was no sig-nificant difference in the moisture content among the films, but the thickness significantly increased with the CAT amount. The water vapor permeability (WVP) started decreasing at CAT0.4. For texture, the addition of CAT decreased tensile strength, and showed inverse relationship with film thickness. Also higher the CAT content was, the more brittle and fragile the texture obtained film. The vitamin C content in the film significantly decreased as the CAT content increased, whereas the antioxidant effects continued to increase with CAT content. In a sensory evaluation, CAT0.2 was the most preferred, followed by CAT0 and CAT0.4, and for those samples containing over 0.6 M ratio CAT, the acceptability dramatically decreased. Based on the above results, the most suitable molar ratio of Vit C:CAT was 1:0.4. As a result of the analysis of the release pattern of the optimized ODF (CAT0.4), both Vit C and CAT exhibited rapid release of over 70% within 30 and 20 min, respectively, in all simulated body fluids. So the prepared ODF can be considered as a suitable delivery formulation for convenient and fast-acting antioxidant.

Effect of Hemodilution on Fluctuation of Cerebral Oxygen Saturation during Cardiopulmonary Bypass in Children with Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease

Background:In patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease(CHD),cerebral oxygenation may be maintained by elevations in hematocrit(Hct).Hemodilution accompanying cardiopulmonary bypass(CPB),however,can disrupt cerebral oxygen balance,leading to fluctuations in cerebral oxygen saturation(ScO_(2)).The present study investigated the effects of Hct changes on the fluctuation of ScO_(2)during CPB in cyanotic CHD using performance measurement(PM).Methods:Children with CHD(51 acyanotic and 46 cyanotic)who had undergone cardiac surgery using CPB were *** performance error(MDPE),median absolute performance error(MDAPE),and wobble parameters of ScO_(2)were calculated before(reference value),during,and after *** of PM parameters with Hct and reductions in Hct(ΔHct)were also ***:Before CPB,patients with cyanotic CHD had lower MDPE and larger wobble than those with acyanotic CHD,although mean ScO_(2)did not differ significantly between the two *** CPB,ScO_(2)of acyanotic CHD increased asΔHct increased,but PM variables were not associated withΔ*** cyanotic CHD,MDPE(r=−0.324,p=0.032)and MDAPE(r=0.339,p=0.024)correlated significantly withΔHct during *** CPB,MDPE(r=0.574,p=0.025)and MDAPE(r=−0.543,p=0.036)were significantly correlated with Hct in children with cyanotic CHD who underwent palliative ***:Therefore,ScO_(2)fluctuation during CPB in children with cyanotic CHD may be affected by the decrease in Hct,suggesting that excessive hemodilution can negatively influence the maintenance of cerebral oxygenation in these patients.

Trap-assisted charge recombination is one of the primary limitationsof restricting the performance of organic solar cells. Long term hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major risk factor in pathogenesis of chronic liver diseases,including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The HBV encod-ed proteins,hepatitis B virus X protein and preS,appear to contribute importantly to the pathogenesis of HCC. Both are associated with oxidative stress,which can damage cellular molecules like lipids,proteins,and DNA during chronic infection. Chronic alcohol use is another important factor that contributes to oxidative stress in the liver. Previous studies reported that treatment with antioxidants,such as curcumin,silymarin,green tea,and vitamins C and E,can protect DNA from damage and regulate liver pathogenesis-related cascades by reducing reactive oxygen species. This review summarizes some of the relationships between oxidative stress and liver pathogenesis,focusing upon HBV and alcohol,and suggests antioxidant therapeutic approaches.

ASL Recognition by the Layered Learning Model Using Clustered Groups

American Sign Language(ASL)images can be used as a communication tool by determining numbers and letters using the shape of the ***,ASL can have an key role in communication for hearing-impaired persons and conveying information to other persons,because sign language is their only channel of *** ASL recognition methods primarily adopt images,sensors,and pose-based recognition techniques,and employ various gestures together with *** study briefly reviews these attempts at ASL recognition and provides an improved ASL classification model that attempts to develop a deep learning method with *** the proposed model,the collected ASL images were clustered based on similarities in shape,and clustered group classification was first performed,followed by reclassification within the *** experiments were conducted with various groups using different learning layers to improve the accuracy of individual image *** selecting the optimized group,we proposed a meta-layered learning model with the highest recognition rate using a deep learning method of image *** proposed model exhibited an improved performance compared with the general classification model.

Formation Mechanism of Chunky Graphite and Its Preventive Measures

The formation mechanism of chunky graphite has been reviewed and studied. The study consisted of a unidirectional solidification method, a small droplet method and a furnace cooling method. Four kinds of iron samples were prepared, namely, the pure Fe-C, Fe-C-S, Fe-C-Ce and Fe-C-Si-Ce alloys, and three kinds of nickel samples, namely the Ni-C, Ni-C-S and Ni-C-Mg alloys. The results of the unidirectional solidification of the Ni-C alloys showed that spheroidal graphite is not observed in the continuous solidified region, in which only flake-like graphite is observed, while spheroidal graphite is usually observed in the quenched liquid region. The existence of spheroidal graphite in the solidified phase is recognized only in the discontinuous growth mode of the Ni-C-Mg alloy solidified at 150 mm/h. This means that the spheroidal graphite is directly crystallized from the melt and entrapped by the flake-like chunky graphite that is formed by the continuous growth mode. In the small droplet method, a small piece of the Fe-C or Fe-C-Ce sample was melted on a pure graphite plate then cooled at a different cooling rate in a He-3%H2 atmosphere. The graphite in the Fe-C-Ce alloy is usually spherical. Nevertheless, the graphite morphology of the final solidified area changed from spherical to chunky and chunky to ledeburite with an increase in the cooling rate. This means that the chunky graphite is formed in the residual liquid region by the solidification into Fe-graphite system. The sample was cooled in a furnace, and the graphite morphology changes from spherical to chunky and chunky to ledeburite with the decrease in the Si content. These phenomena can be confirmed by the cooling curves of these samples.

The Effect of Fabrication Conditions for GDC Buffer Layer on Electrochemical Performance of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

A Gd-doped ceria（GDC） buffer layer is required between a conventional yttria-stabilized zirconia（YSZ） electrolyte and a La-Sr-Co-Fe-O3（LSCF） cathode to prevent their chemical reaction. In this study,the effect of varying the conditions for fabricating the GDC buffer layer, such as sintering temperature and amount of sintering aid, on the solid oxide fuel cell（SOFC） performance was investigated. A finer GDC powder（i.e., ultra-high surface area）, a higher sintering temperature（1290℃）, and a larger amount of sintering aid（12%） resulted in improved densification of the buffer layer; however, the electrochemical performance of an anode-supported cell containing this GDC buffer layer was poor. These conflicting results are attributed to the formation of（Zr, Ce）O2 and/or excess cobalt grain boundaries（GBs） at higher sintering temperatures with a large amount of sintering aid（i.e., cobalt oxide）. A cell comprising of a cobalt-free GDC buffer layer, which was fabricated using a low-temperature process, had lower cell resistance and higher stability. The results indicate that electrochemical performance and stability of SOFCs strongly depend on fabrication conditions for the GDC buffer layer.
