Geographic variation in photoperiodic diapause induction and diapause intensity in Sericinus montelus （Lepidoptera Papilionidae）

Due to the risk of extinction and ornamental value of the swallowtail butterfly, Sericinus montelus Gray （Lepidoptera： Papilionidae） in China, knowledge about local adaptations is important for the conservation and economical utilization of the species. In the present study, photoperiodie diapause induction and diapause intensity of S. montelus populations from Jiamusi （46°37＇N）, Beijing （40° 15＇N）, Zibo （36°48＇N）, Fangxian （32°36＇N）, Wuhan （30°33＇N） and Huaihua （27°33＇N） were characterized at 25℃. Logistic regression analysis revealed a significant population x hours of light interaction, confirming that photoperiodic responses varied among populations. The critical photoperiod was positively correlated with latitude and increased toward the north at a rate of about 1 h for each 6.67 degrees of latitude. Survival analyses indicated that survival time of diapausing pupae before adult eclosion differed significantly among populations at 25℃ and 16 ： 8 L ＂D h. The mean duration of pupal diapause was also positively correlated with latitude. Our study reveals geographic variation in the critical photoperiod for diapause induction and in diapause intensity of S. montelus. These results provide useful information for our general understanding about seasonal adaptation in insects and may also be used to predict how geographic populations respond to climate warming.

Developing high-activity and low-cost catalysts is the key to eliminate the limitation of sluggish anodic oxygen evolution reaction(OER)during electrocatalytic overall water ***,Ni‒Fe/black phosphorous(BP)composites are synthesized using a simple three-electrode system,where exfoliation of bulky BP and synthesis of NiFe composites are simultaneously *** light illumination,the optimized Ni‒Fe/BP composite exhibits excellent photoelectrocatalytic OER performance(e.g.,the overpotential is 58 mV lower than a commercial RuO_(2) electrocatalyst at a current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2)).The electron transfer on this composite is proved to follow a Ni‒BP‒Fe *** electronic structure of this Ni‒Fe/BP composite is effectively regulated,leading to optimized adsorption strength of the intermediate OH*and improved intrinsic activity for the *** with active sites on the support,this Ni‒Fe/BP composite possesses abundant electrochemical active sites and a bug surface area for the *** introduction of light further accelerates the electrocatalytic *** work provides a novel and facile method to synthesize high-performance metal/BP composites as well as the approaches to reveal their OER mechanisms.

The direct-forcing fictitious domain method is extended to simulate the locomotion of a passively pitching foil. Our study focuses on the hysteresis phenomenon that the critical frequency for the reverse of the locomotion direction of the wing in case of decreasing frequency is smaller than that in case of increasing frequency. In our simulations, the hysteresis phenomenon is produced by imposing different initial conditions at a same frequency. Our results indicate that the ratio of the heaving amplitudes of two foil edges is crucial to the direction of the foil＇s horizontal motion, and the amplitude of the leading edge is generally smaller. The critical frequencies for the reverse of the locomotion direction are increased, when the foil-fluid density ratio is decreased or the spring constant is increased. The critical frequencies in the bi-stability regime also depend on the initial velocity imposed, and the hysteresis loop generally becomes larger if the initial velocities are closer to the terminal locomotion velocities of the foil.

The recovery and subsequent reuse of heavy metal ions from industrial wastewater are crucial for promoting sustainable development,but they also presen significant *** this article,ethylenediaminetetraacetic dianhydride(EDTAD),which possesses strong metal chelating ability,is covalently attached to MIL-101-NH_(2)(Fe),resulting in a significant improvement in the removal rate of heavy metal ions in ***,the recovered waste metal ions are transformed into high-performance FeNi_(3)/NiFe_(2)O_(4)@NC dual-functional oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)***,FeNi_(3)/NiFe_(2)O_(4)@NC exhibits outstanding OER performance,with only a264 mV overpotential at 10 mA·cm^(-2).Density functiona theory(DFT)calculations reveal that the synergistic effect of the FeNi_(3)/NiFe_(2)O_(4)@NC heterostructure can enhance conductivity,optimize the free energy of*to OH*during OER reaction,and promote catalytic *** work not only improves the removal rate of heavy metal ions but also obtains high-performance catalysts,while providing a new approach for the treatment and secondary utilization of heavy metal ion wastewater as well as the preparation of low-cost catalysts.

The cellular immunity of current influenza split vaccine is relatively low. It is necessary to develop a novel vaccine to improve the cellular immunity. The authors of this study prepared liposome-encapsulated influenza split vaccine and tested it in BALB/c mice. The mice were immunized once with 4 μg of haemagglutinin of monovalent A/ New Caledonia/20/99 （H1N1 ） encapsulated with liposomes or the split virus vaccine only through intrastomach injection. In a comparative study, it was observed that the liposome-encapsulated vaccine elicited a higher neutralizing antibedy response, more effectively stimulated spleen cell proliferation, increased cell subsets like CD^4＋ and CD^4＋/ CD8^＋ , and triggered IL-4 and IFN-γ production.
