5a-reductase inhibitors(5-ARI)are widely employed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.It has been noted that 5-ARI exhibit the potential to attenuate the risk of prostate cancer,but consistent agreement has not been achieved.Moreover,the effect of 5-ARI on cancer-specific mortality and progression of prostate cancer remains unclear.Therefore,the goal of the current meta-analysis was to elucidate the impact of 5-ARI on the incidence and progression of prostate cancer.We searched for all studies assessing the effect of 5-ARI on risk of prostate cancer in PubMed,Embase,Medline,and Cochrane Library databases.Pooled relative risk(RR)and corresponding 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were accepted to evaluate the association between 5-ARI and the risk of prostate cancer.Synthetic results implied that subjects who accepted 5-ARI compared with the placebo group experienced a distinctly weakened overall incidence of prostate cancer(RR=0.74;95%C l:0.66-0.82;P7;RR=1.19;95%Cl:0.98-1.43;P=0.069).The results also showed that 5-ARI treatment did not significantly alter prostate cancer-specific mortality(RR=1.0;95%C l:0.95-1.05;P=0.916).In addition,it was worth noting that 5-ARI treatment acted in a protective role that presented a dramatic benefit to delay the progression of low-risk tumors(RR=0.58;95%C l:0.43-0.78;P<0.001).

Targeted delivery of anti-tumor drugs and overcoming drug resistance in malig-nant tumor cells remain significant clinical challenges.However,there are only few effective methods to address these issues.Extracellular vesicles(EVs),actively secreted by cells,play a crucial role in intercellular information transmis-sion and cargo transportation.Recent studies have demonstrated that engineered EVs can serve as drug delivery carriers and showed promising application prospects.Nevertheless,there is an urgent need for further improvements in the isolation and purification of EVs,surface modification techniques,drug assem-bly processes,and precise recognition of tumor cells for targeted drug delivery purposes.In this review,we summarize the applications of engineered EVs in cancer treatment and overcoming drug resistance,and current challenges asso-ciated with engineered EVs are also discussed.This review aims to provide new insights and potential directions for utilizing engineered EVs as targeted delivery systems for anti-tumor drugs and overcoming drug resistance in the near future.

Global warming and algal blooms have been two of the most pressing problems faced by the world today.In recent decades,numerous studies indicated that global warming promoted the expansion of algal blooms.However,research on how algal blooms respond to global warming is scant.Global warming coupled with eutrophication promoted the rapid growth of phytoplankton,which resulted in an expansion of algal blooms.Algal blooms are affected by the combined effects of global warming,including increases in temperatures,CO_(2)concentration,and nutrient input to aquatic systems by extreme weather events.Since the growth of phytoplankton requires CO_(2),they appear to act as a carbon sink.Unfortunately,algal blooms will release CH4,CO_(2),and inorganic nitrogen when they die and decompose.As substrate nitrogen increases from decompose algal biomass,more N2O will be released by nitrification and denitrification.In comparison to CO_(2),CH4has 28-fold and N2O has 265-fold greenhouse effect.Moreover,algal blooms in the polar regions may contribute to melting glaciers and sea ice(will release greenhouse gas,which contribute to global warming)by reducing surface albedo,which consequently would accelerate global warming.Thus,algal blooms and global warming could form feedback loops which prevent human survival and development.Future researches shall examine the mechanism,trend,strength,and control strategies involved in this mutual feedback.Additionally,it will promote global projects of environmental protection combining governance greenhouse gas emissions and algal blooms,to form a geoengineering for regulating the cycles of carbon,nitrogen,and phosphorus.

Friction force(f)usually increases with the normal load(N)macroscopically,according to the classic law of Da Vinci–Amontons(f=μN),with a positive and finite friction coefficient(μ).Herein near-zero and negative differential friction(ZNDF)coefficients are discovered in two-dimensional(2D)van der Waals(vdW)magnetic CrI_(3)commensurate contacts.It is identified that the ferromagnetic–antiferromagnetic phase transition of the interlayer couplings of the bilayer CrI_(3)can significantly reduce the interfacial sliding energy barriers and thus contribute to ZNDF.Moreover,phase transition between the in-plane(p_(x)and p_(y))and out-of-plane(p_(z))wave-functions dominates the sliding barrier evolutions,which is attributed to the delicate interplays among the interlayer vdW,electrostatic interactions,and the intralayer deformation of the CrI_(3)layers under external load.The present findings may motivate a new concept of slide-spintronics and are expected to play an instrumental role in design of novel magnetic solid lubricants applied in various spintronic nano-devices.

In-plane birefringent materials present an effective modulation of the optical properties and more degrees of freedom for the signal detection in low dimension,and thus remain a hot topic in realizing the integrated,miniature,and flexible devices for multiple applications.Here,the artificial in-plane birefringence properties have been successfully achieved on a graphene oxide film by a novel femtosecond laser lithography method,which provides a high-speed,large-area,and regular subwavelength gratings(~380 nm)fabrication and photoreduction.The obtained sample manifests an evident optical birefringence(~0.18)and anisotropic photoresponse(~1.21)in the visible range,both of which can be significantly modulated by either the structural morphology or the degree of oxide reduction.Based on the analysis of effective-medium theory and measurements of angle-resolved polarized Raman spectroscopy,the artificial in-plane birefringence is originated from various optical responses of the periodic subwavelength structures for the incident light with different polarization states.This technique shows great advantages for the fabrication of integrated in-plane polarization-dependent devices,which is expected to solve the problems in this field,such as the deficient selection of materials,complex design of micro/nanostructure,and inflexible processing technology.

Time-encoded imaging is useful for identifying potential special nuclear materials and other radioactive sources at a distance.In this study,a large field-of-view time-encoded imager was developed for gamma-ray and neutron source hotspot imaging based on a depth-of-interaction(DOI)detector.The imager primarily consists of a DOI detector system and a rotary dual-layer cylindrical coded mask.An EJ276 plastic scintillator coupled with two SiPMs was designed as the DOI detector to increase the field of view and improve the imager performance.The difference in signal time at both ends and the log of the signal amplitude ratio were used to calculate the interaction position resolution.The position resolution of the DOI detector was calibrated using a collimated Cs-137 source,and the full width at half maximum of the reconstruction position of the Gaussian fitting curve was approximately 4.4 cm.The DOI detector can be arbitrarily divided into several units to independently reconstruct the source distribution images.The unit length was optimized via Am-Be source-location experiments.A multidetector filtering method is proposed for image denoising.This method can effectively reduce image noise caused by poor DOI detector position resolution.The vertical field of view of the imager was(-55°,55°)when the detector was placed in the center of the coded mask.A DT neutron source at 20 m standoff could be located within 2400 s with an angular resolution of 3.5°.

Background： The aim of this study is to explore the treatment and outcome ofepileptogenic temporal lobe cavernous malformations （CMs）. Methods： We analyzed retrospectively the profiles of 52 patients diagnosed as temporal lobe CMs associated with epilepsy. Among the 52 cases, 11 underwent a direct resection of CM along with the adjacent zone of hemosiderin rim without electrocorticogram （ECoG） monitoring while the other 41 cases had operations under the guidance of ECoG. Forty-six patients were treated by lesionectomy ＋ hemosiderin rim while the other six were treated by lesionectomy ＋ hemosiderin rim along with extended epileptogenic zone resection. The locations of lesions, the duration of illness, the manifestation, the excision ranges and the outcomes of postoperative follow-up were analyzed, respectively. Results： All of the 52 patients were treated by microsurgery. There was no neurological deficit through the long-term follow-up. Outcomes of seizure control are as follows： 42 patients （80.8%） belong to Engel Class I, 5 patients （9.6%） belong to Engel Class II, 3 patients （5.8%） belong to Engel Class Ill and 2 patients （3.8%） belong to Engel Class IV. Conclusion： Patients with epilepsy caused by temporal CMs should be treated as early as possible. Resection of the lesion and the surrounding hemosiderin zone is necessary. Moreover, an extended excision of epileptogenic cortex or cerebral lobes is needed to achieve a better prognosis if the ECoG indicates the existence of an extra epilepsy onset origin outside the lesion itself.

Trends in Lipids Level and Dyslipidemia among Chinese Adults, 2002-2015

Objective To investigate the trends of lipid profiles and dyslipidemia among Chinese adults from 2002 to 2015.Methods Data were collected from three nationally representative cross-sectional surveys.Fasting venous blood samples were collected and serum lipids were tested by biochemical analysis and enzymatic determination.Lipid levels and the prevalence of dyslipidemia among adults were analyzed with complex sampling weighting adjustment for age and gender.Results The weighted means of TC, TG, and LDL-c significantly increased linearly from 3.93, 1.12, and 2.12 mmol/L in 2002 to 4.59, 1.41, and 2.78 mmol/L in 2010 and then to 4.63, 1.47, and 2.87 mmol/L in 2015, respectively;by contrast, HDL-c levels decreased significantly from 1.30 mmol/L to 1.26 mmol/L over the same period.Similar trends in mean non-HDL-c and lipid-related ratios were observed.The weighted dyslipidemia prevalence linearly increased;in particular, hypercholesterolemia increased from 1.6% to 5.6% and then to 5.8%, hypertriglyceridemia increased from 5.7% to 13.6% and then to 15.0%, low HDL-c increased from 18.8% to 35.5% and then to 24.9%, and high LDL-c increased from 1.3% to 5.6% and then to 7.2%(P for trend <0.001).Conclusion Dyslipidemia increased among Chinese adults from 2002 to 2015.Development of a comprehensive strategy to decrease lipid levels in this population is urgently required.

Background The age of onset of hypertension(HTN)is decreasing,and obesity is a significant risk factor.The prevalence and racial disparities in pediatric HTN and the association between body composition and blood pressure are insufficiently studied.This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of HTN in Chinese and American children and adolescents and to assess the relationship between various body composition indices and HTN.Methods Seven thousand,five hundred and seventy-three Chinese and 6239 American children and adolescents aged 8–18 years from the 2013–2015 China Child and Adolescent Cardiovascular Health study and the 2011–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were analyzed.Blood pressure and body composition(fat and muscle)were measured by trained staff.The crude prevalence and age-standardized prevalence rate(ASPR)of primary HTN and its subtypes[isolated systolic hypertension(ISH)and isolated diastolic hypertension(IDH)]were calculated based on 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines.Multivariable-adjusted linear regression coefficients and odds ratios(ORs)were calculated to assess the associations of body composition indicators with HTN,ISH and IDH.Results The ASPR of HTN was 18.5%in China(CN)and 4.6%in the United States(US),whereas the obesity prevalence was 7.4%and 18.6%,and the population attributable risk of HTN caused by overweight and obesity was higher in the US than in CN.Increased fat mass,muscle mass and body fat percentage mass were associated with a higher risk of HTN in both countries.The percent of muscle body mass had a protective effect on HTN and ISH in both countries[HTN(CN:OR=0.83,95%CI=0.78–0.88;US:OR=0.72,95%CI=0.64–0.81);ISH(CN:OR=0.87,95%CI=0.80–0.94;US:OR=0.71,95%CI=0.62–0.81)],and the protective effect was more common among children and adolescents with high levels of physical activity.Conclusions The burden of HTN in Chinese children and adolescents was substantial and much greater than that in the US,and the contribution of obesity to HTN was higher in t

The photocatalytic conversion of CO_(2)into sustainable,green fuels and value-added chemicals is believed to be an appealing method to overcome both the energy crisis and environmental problems.Numerous efforts have been dedicated to enhance the CO_(2)conversion efficiency and selectivity through developing photocatalysts and CO_(2)reduction systems in recent years.This review gives an overview of the latest progress in photocatalysts for visible-light photocatalytic CO_(2)conversion and recent research advances of heterogeneous photocatalytic CO_(2)conversion systems.Furthermore,The roles of cocatalyst and heterojunctions to increase the efficiency of charge transfer,separation and visible light excitation are discussed.Finally,the challenges and perspectives for visible-light-driven photocatalytic conversion of CO_(2)are proposed.
