Effect of climate change on spatial distribution of scorpions of significant public health importance in Iran

Objective:To establish a spatial geo-database for scorpions in Iran,and to identify the suitable ecological niches for the most dangerous scorpion species under different climate change ***:The spatial distribution of six poisonous scorpion species of Iran were modeled:Hemiscorpius lepturus,Androctonus crassicauda,Mesobuthus eupeus,Hottentotta saulcyi,Hottentotta zagrosensis,and Odontobuthus(O.)doriae,under RCP2.6 and RCP8.5 climate change *** Max Ent ecological niche model was used to predict climate suitability for these scorpion species in the 2030 s and 2050 s,and the data were compared with environmental suitability under the current bioclimatic ***:A total of 73 species and subspecies of scorpions belonging to 19 genera in Iran were *** Province has the highest species diversity with 34 species and *** most poisonous scorpion species of Iran are scattered in the semi-arid climates,at an altitudinal range between 11 m and 2954 m above sea *** is projected that ***,Androctonus crassicauda and Mesobuthus eupeus species would be widely distributed in most parts of the country,whereas the most suitable ecological niches for the other species would be limited to the west and/or southwestern part of ***:Although the environmental suitability for all the species would change under the two climate change scenarios,the change would be more significant for *** under RCP8.5 in the 2050 *** findings can be used as basis for future studies in the areas with the highest environmental suitability for the most dangerous scorpion species to fill the gaps in the ecology of scorpion species in these areas.

Seismic control of multi-degrees-of-freedom structures by vertical mass isolation method using MR dampers

Vertical mass isolation(VMI)is one of the novel methods for the seismic control of *** this method,the entire structure is assumed to consist of two mass and stiffness subsystems,and an isolated layer is located among *** this study,the magnetorheological damper in three modes:passive-off,passive-on,and semi-active mode with variable voltage between zero and 9 volts was used as an isolated layer between two ***-degrees-of-freedom structures with 5,10,and 15 floors in two dimensions were examined under 11 pairs of near field *** each level,the displacement of MR dampers was taken into *** responses of maximum displacement,maximum inter-story drift,and maximum base shear in controlled and uncontrolled buildings were compared to assess the suggested approach for seismic control of the *** to the results,the semi-active control method can reduce the response by more than 12%compared to the uncontrolled mode in terms of maximum displacement of the mass subsystem of the *** method can reduce more than 16%and 20%of the responses compared to the uncontrolled mode in terms of maximum inter-story drift and base shear of the structure,respectively.

Engineered cardiac constructs(ECC)aid in the progression of regenerative medicine,disease modeling and targeted drug delivery to adjust and aim the release of remedial combination as well as decrease the side effects of *** this research,polycaprolactone/gold nanoparticles(PCL/GNPs)three-dimensional(3D)composite scaffolds were manufactured by 3D printing using the fused deposition modeling(FDM)method and then coated with gelatin/spironolactone(GEL/SPL).Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy(FTIR–ATR)were applied to characterize the ***,drug release,biodegradation,behavior of the myoblasts(H9C2)cell line,and cytotoxicity of the 3D scaffolds were *** microstructural observation of the scaffolds reported interconnected pores with 150–300µm in *** 3D scaffolds were degraded significantly after 28 days of immersion in stimulated body fluid(SBF),with the maximum rate of GEL-coated 3D *** release from cross-linked GEL coating demonstrated the excess of drug release over time,and according to the control release systems,the drug delivery systems(DDS)went into balance after the 14th *** addition,cell culture study showed that with the addition of GNPs,the proliferation of(H9C2)was enhanced,and with GEL/SPL coating the cell attachment and viability were improved *** findings suggested that PCL/GNPs 3D scaffolds coated with GEL/SPL can be an appropriate choice for myocardial tissue engineering.

Regularity classification and corresponding analysis method requirements of horizontally curved bridges with unequal pier heights

The seismic behavior of horizontally curved bridges,particularly with unequal height piers,is more complicated than that of straight bridges due to their geometric *** this study,the seismic responses of several horizontally curved single-column-bent viaducts with various degrees of curvature and different pier heights have been investigated,employing three different analysis approaches:namely,modal pushover analysis,uniform load method,and nonlinear time history *** the investigated bridge configurations and utilizing the most common regularity indices,the results indicate that viaducts with 45-degree and 90-degree deck subtended angles can be categorized as regular and moderately irregular,respectively,while the bridges with 180-degree deck subtended angle are found to be highly ***,the viaducts whose pier heights are asymmetric may be considered as irregular for almost all ranges of the deck subtended *** effects of higher transverse and longitudinal modes are discussed and the minimum analysis requirements are identified to assess the seismic response of such bridge configurations for design *** the Regularity Indices used here are useful tools to distinguish between regular and irregular bridges,further studies are needed to improve their reliability.

Investigating the Shortcomings of Urban Development Plans in Iran and Factors Affecting Their Unrealizability(Case Study:Master Plan Approved in 2016 in Tabriz)

In recent decades, the unbalanced development of Iranian cities and the advent of many problems in various social, cultural, economic, physical and environmental dimensions have resulted inevitably in the need to use urban development plans to advance the spatio-physical condition of cities. In this regard, about five decades have passed since the start of the preparation of urban development plans in Iran; but despite gaining a lot of experience by producers and executors of urban affairs, in practice, urban projects have not been able to take a positive step in the direction of programmed development. Therefore, by detecting the causes of unachievability and failure of these plans, it is possible to prepare realistic and executive plans. Hence, this study seeks to investigate the shortcomings of the master plan approved in 2016 in Tabriz and identify the factors affecting its unrealizability by using the qualitative methods(Delphi and case study methods).Among the most significant reasons for the impracticability of this plan, the following should be mentioned:(1) the inadequacy of the design model(positivism, belief system, obligation,inductive reasoning, centrism and being government-centered);(2) inadequacy in the content of the plan(being governmental and non-participatory, inadequate subjectology and collection of irrelevant data, lack of segregation of interventions in different contexts, lack of an organized monitoring system, mere physical emphases, lack of definition of executive financial possibilities,perfectionism, lack of attention to relativism and inflexibility and lack of connection between the elements and components of the plan); and(3) inadequacy of the plan proposals and strategies(emphasis on quantity, incomplete inference, inefficiency and not including all levels and strata).

Assessment of the effects of intrastromal injection of adipose-derived stem cells in keratoconus patients

·AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intrastromal transplantation of adipose-derived stem cells(ASCs) in keratoconus patients.·METHODS: This study was conducted on 8 eyes of 8 patients with moderate to severe keratoconus. In the patients, ophthalmic assessments including visual acuity, refraction, slit lamp examination, fundoscopy, corneal topography, and confocal microscopy were performed. Autologous stem cells were used. The isolated stem cells were injected into the corneal stroma by using femtosecond laser. Surgical procedure was similar to intracorneal ring implantation. All patients were re-assessed 1, 3, and 6mo after surgery.·RESULTS: The baseline mean visual acuity was 0.48±0.18 and improved to 0.66±0.17 after surger y and final acuity increased by 1.85±0.80 lines(P=0.001).The mean spherical refraction of patients improved 0.34 ± 0.35 D(P=0.039), and the mean cylindrical refraction of patients improved 0.84±0.23 D(P=0.016). The mean flat keratometry decreased 0.78±0.71 D(P=0.017), and the mean steep keratometry decreased 0.59±0.68 D(P=0.023). The mean central corneal thickness of patients improved of 6.29±4.47 μm(P=0.03). The mean keratocyte density at the anterior and middle stroma of cornea increased(P<0.05) but remained stable at the posterior stroma after 6mo. All patients had no complications and their corneas remained transparent. ·CONCLUSION: Intrastromal transplantation of ASCs has positive effects on vision and refractive parameters in most patients with keratoconus. After six months, visual acuity improved moderately, corneal parameters reduced slightly, and stromal keratocytes density increased. This modality is safe, and patients do not have any complications.

An investigation of the seismic behavior of a deck-type reinforced concrete arch bridge

This paper attempts to explore potential benefits of form in a deck-type reinforced concrete（RC） arch bridge in connection with its overall seismic behavior and performance. Through a detailed three-dimensional finite element modeling and analysis of an actual existing deck-type RC arch bridge, some useful quantitative information have been derived that may serve for a better understanding of the seismic behavior of such arch bridges. A series of the nonlinear dynamic analyses has been carried out under the action of seven different time histories of ground motion scaled to the AASHTO 2012 response spectrum. The concept of demand to capacity ratios has been employed to provide an initial estimation of the seismic performance of the bridge members. As a consequence of the structural form, a particular type of irregularity is introduced due to variable heights of columns transferring the deck loads to the main arch. Hence, a particular attention has been paid to the internal force/moment distributions within the short, medium, and long columns as well as along the main arch. A study of the effects of the vertical component of ground motion has demonstrated the need for the inclusion of these effects in the analysis of such bridges.

Experimental evaluation and modeling of liquid jet penetration to estimate droplet size in a three-phase riser reactor

In this work,the effects of injecting an evaporating liquid jet into solid–gas flow are experimentally investigated.A new model(SHED model) and a supplementary model(spray model) have also been proposed to investigate some flow-field characteristics in three-phase fluidized bed with the mean relative error 4.3% between model and measured *** experiments were conducted to study the influences of flow-field parameters such as liquid volumetric flow rate,injection velocity,jet angle and gas superficial velocity as well as solid mass flux on the jet penetration depth(JPD).In addition,independent variables were experimentally employed to propose two empirical correlations for JPD by using multiple regression method and spray cone angle(SCA) by using dimensional analysis *** mean relative errors between the JPD and SCA correlations versus experimental data were 7.5% and 3.9%,*** addition,in order to identify the variable effect,a parametric study was carried *** the proposed model can avoid direct use of expensive devices to measure JPD and to predict droplet size.

Optimization of a continuous ultrasound assisted oxidative desulfurization(UAOD) process of diesel using response surface methodology(RSM) considering operating cost

A continuous-flow ultrasound-assisted oxidative desulfurization(UAOD)of partially hydro-treated diesel has been investigated using hydrogen peroxide-formic acid as simple and easy to apply oxidation *** effects of different operating parameters of oxidation stage including residence time(2–24 min),formic acid to sulfur molar ratio(10–150),and oxidant to sulfur molar ratio(5–35)on the sulfur removal have been studied using response surface methodology(RSM)based on Box–Behnken *** the operating costs of the continuous-flow oxidation stage including chemical and electrical energy consumption,the appropriate values of operating parameters were selected as follows:residence time of 16 min,the formic acid to sulfur molar ratio of 54.47,and the oxidant to sulfur molar ratio of *** these conditions,the sulfur removal and the volume ratio of the hydrocarbon phase to the aqueous phase were 86.90%and 4.34,*** drastic reduction in the chemical consumption in the oxidation stage,the volume ratio of the hydrocarbon phase to the aqueous phase was increased up to ***,the formic acid to sulfur molar ratio and the oxidant to sulfur molar ratio were obtained 23.64 and 3.58,respectively,which lead to sulfur removal of 84.38%with considerable improvements on the operating cost of oxidation stage in comparison with the previous works.

Experimental mass transfer coefficients in a pilot plant multistage column extractor

The volumetric overall mass transfer coefficients in a multistage column have been measured using axial dispersion model for toluene–acetone–water system. The effect of operating parameters on the volumetric overall mass transfer coefficients has been investigated for both mass transfer directions. The results show that the mass transfer performance is strongly dependent on rotor speed and mass transfer direction, although only slightly dependent on phase flow rates. In addition, empirical correlations to predict the overall mass transfer coefficients have been developed. The proposed correlations based on dimensionless numbers can be considered as a useful tool for the possible scale up of the multistage column extractor.
