For just about 30 years, researchers have considered the likelihood to utilize nucleic acids as antiviral therapeutics. In principle, small single-stranded nucleotide sequence (oligonucleotide) could hybridize to a particular gene or messenger RNA and diminish transcription or translation, respectively, in this manner decreasing the amount of protein that is synthesized. Until now, an incredible number of antisense oligonucleotides, double-stranded oligonucleotides, aptamers, ribozymes, deoxyribozymes, interfering RNAs, chimeric RNA-DNA molecules, antibody genes has been created artificially and applied effectively for comprehension and manipulating biological processes and in clinical preliminaries to treat a variety of diseases. Their versatility and potency make them similarly fit candidates for fighting viral infections. However, troubles with their efficiency, off-target effects, toxicity, delivery, and stability halted the development of nucleic acid-based therapeutics that can be utilized in the clinic. The potential for nucleic acid therapeutic agents is significant and is quite recently beginning to be realized. In this review, we have summarized some of the recent advancements made in the area of nucleic acid based therapeutics and focused on the methods of their delivery and associated challenges.

BACKGROUND:Bangladesh is situated in the intermediate prevalence region of hepatitis B virus (HBV).The lifetime risk of acquiring HBV infection in Bangladesh is greater than 40%.It has been estimated that this virus is responsible for 10%-35%cases of acute viral hepatitis,35.7%cases of fulminant hepatic failure, 33.3%-40.5%cases of chronic hepatitis and 46.8%cases of hepatocellular carcinoma in *** aim of this study is to compare the correlation between HBV DNA load and grade and stage of liver disease in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB). METHODS:Percutaneous liver biopsies done in 159 CHB patients revealed 62.9%(100 patients)had wild type HBV infection and the rest 37.1%(59)had pre-core/core promoter mutant HBV *** DNA load was measured using PCR in all patients. RESULTS:In the wild type CHB group,97%(97 patients) had moderate to high HBV DNA load and 3%(3)had low to moderate HBV *** the pre-core/core promoter mutant group,74.6%(44 patients)had moderate to high HBV DNA and the rest 25.4%(15)had low to moderate HBV *** patients with moderate to high HBV DNA of the patients with wild type CHB,78.4%(76 patients) had minimal to mild chronic hepatitis(HAI-NI 0-8)and 21.6%(21)had moderate to severe chronic hepatitis(HAI- NI 9-18).66.6%(2 patients)and 33.3%(1)patients with low to moderate HBV DNA load had minimal to mild and moderate to severe chronic hepatitis *** the moderate to high HBV DNA group,77.3%(75 patients) patients had minimal to moderate fibrosis(HAI-F 0-2)and 22.7%(22)(HAI-F 3-4)had severe fibrosis to *** figures were 33.3%(1 patient)and 66.6% (2)respectively in the patients with low to moderate HBV DNA *** the other hand in case of patients with pre-core/core promoter mutant type CHB,in the moderate to high HBV DNA group,79.5%(35 patients)had minimal to mild chronic hepatitis(HAI-NI 0-8)and 20.5%(9)had moderate to severe chronic hepatitis(HAI-NI 9-18).93.3% (14)and 6.7%(1)patients with low to mod

Objective:To evaluate the antitumor activity of Manilkara zapota(***) *** bark against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC) in Swiss albino ***:The in vivo antitumour activity of the ethyl acetate extract of stem bark of *** L.(EASM) was evaluated at 50,100 and 200 mg/kg bw against EAC using mean survival *** administration of the extract of ***,viable EAC cell count and body weight in the EAC tumour hosts were *** animal was also observed for improvement in the haematological parameters(e.g.,heamoglobin content,red and white blood cells count and differential cell count) after EASM treatment. Results:Intraperitoneal administration of EASM reduced viable EAC cells,increased the survival lime,and restored altered haematological *** efficacy was observed for EASM at 100 mg/kg dose(P<0.05).Conclusions:It can be concluded that the elhyl acetate extract of stem bark of *** *** significant antitumour activity.

BACKGROUND:Acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF) is common in *** viral E hepatitis is sporadically encountered in this country each year,with a rising incidence in the rainy *** study aimed to identify the etiology of ACLF in Bangladesh. METHODS:In this retrospective study,69 ACLF patients were *** presented to our department at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in *** of diseases was recorded and appropriate investigations were conducted in all patients. RESULTS:Acute hepatitis E virus(HEV)infection was positive in 21.7%(15/69)of the patients,while 14.5% (10/69)had *** gastrointestinal tract hemorrhage was seen in 4.3%of the patients(3/69),while another 4.3%(3/69)had a positive history for alcohol or *** of the patients tested positive for hepatitis A virus infection and no evidence of hepatitis B virus flare was found in any *** specific cause for ACLF could be identified. CONCLUSIONS:Acute HEV infection is a leading cause of ACLF in *** patients were thought to have decompensation of cirrhosis,but subsequently were recognized as having ACLF by a retrospective review according to the definition of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver Working Party Meeting on ACLF in New Delhi in early 2008.

Yield Response of Direct Seeded <i>Aus</i>Rice Varieties under Rainfed Condition

Rainfed Aus rice is a popular conventional rice cultivation technique that through appropriate variety selection can accelerate the benefits of the farmer. On this context, an experiment was carried out at the research field of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur1706 from April to August in 2014 to evaluate yield performance of some Aus rice varieties under rainfed condition. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replications. The experiment consisted of two sets of treatments: water regime as irrigated (irrigation when necessary) and rainfed (dependent on rainfall) in the main plot and 15 varieties into sub-plots. It was revealed that yield and yield contributing characters were significantly influenced by water regime, variety and their interaction. The traits like number of effective tillers and non-effective tillers·hill-1, number of filled grains and unfilled grains panicle-1, panicle length, test weight, grain yield and harvest index were higher in irrigated crops compared to rainfed. Considering the performance of yield, the highest grain yield recorded in BRRI dhan27 (irrigated-2.47 t·ha-1 and rainfed-2.26 t·ha-1) followed by BRRI dhan55 (irrigated-1.95 t·ha-1 and rainfed-1.88 t·ha-1), BRRI dhan48 and BRRI dhan43 under both irrigated and rainfed treatment. BRRI dhan27 ranked the top under both irrigated and rainfed conditions, however the relative yield was maximum in BRRI dhan55 (reduction was only 3.59%) followed by Nerica10. Hence, considering the yield stability and absolute yield performance, BRRI dhan27 may be considered favorably cultivable for Aus season in Bangladesh followed by BRRI dhan55, BRRI dhan48 and BRRI dhan43.

All solutions of the Korteweg-de Vries(K-dV) equation that are bounded on the real line are physically relevant, depending on the application area of interest. Usually, both analytical and numerical approaches consider solution profiles that are either spatially localized or (quasi) periodic. The development of numerical techniques for obtaining approximate solution of partial differential equations has very much increased in the finite element and finite difference methods. Recently, new auxiliary equation method introduced by PANG, BIAN and CHAO is applied to the analytical solution of K-dV equation and wavelet methods are applied to the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Pioneer works in this direction are those of Beylkin, Dahmen, Jaffard and Glowinski, among others. In this research we employ the new auxiliary equation method to obtain the effect of dispersion term on travelling wave solution of K-dV and their numerical estimation as well. Our approach views the limit behavior as an invariant measure of the fast motion drifted by the slow component, where the known constants of motion of the fast system are employed as slowly evolv- ing observables;averaging equations for the latter lead to computation of the characteristic features of the motion.

Korteweg de-Vries (K-dV) has wide applications in physics, engineering and fluid mechanics. In this the Korteweg de-Vries equation with traveling solitary waves and numerical estimation of analytic solutions have been studied. We have found some exact traveling wave solutions with relevant physical parameters using new auxiliary equation method introduced by PANG, BIAN and CHAO. We have solved the set of exact traveling wave solution analytically. Some numerical results of time dependent wave solutions have been presented graphically and discussed. This procedure has a potential to be used in more complex system of many types of K-dV equation.

Design and synthesis of organic chelating agents containing nitrogen and sulfur as donor atoms and their metal complexes is an interesting field of research for their different types of activities. The bi-dentate N,N chelating agent such as 2,2-Bipyridal has been playing a vital role in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. 2,2-Bipyridal has been used to prepare many mixed-ligand complexes. Different ligand complexes prepared from 2,2-Bipyridyl are used in different areas such as molecular catalysis, solar energy conversion, calorimetric analysis, herbicides, molecular recognition, self-assembly, antineoplastic agents, and nucleic acid probes. Another important property of these types of compounds is the triplet state photosensitizing character of bipyridyl nucleus, which is shown in metal complexes. It is also found that compounds containing O,S,N atoms have received considerable attention because of their pharmacological studies like anticancer, antibacterial, and antitumour activities. Therefore, it has been decided to synthesize Schiff bases derived from 2,2’- bipyridyl-5,5’-dicarbaldehyde compounds with O,S,N and F-containing amines and study their antibacterial properties. Several new Schiff bases have been synthesized and fully characterized by spectral data. This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of newly designed Schiff bases.

Nutritional, Phytochemicals and Antioxidant Properties of Some Popular Pulse Varieties of Bangladesh

In this study, we estimate the proximate compositions, phytochemicals (polyphenol, flavonoids, flavonol, tannin, protein, carbohydrate, reducing sugar, and β carotene), antioxidant activities, vitamins, minerals, and heavy metals of the four pulses (mung, anchor, chickpea, lentils) and compare among them to find out more nutritious pulse samples. Mung was found to contain the highest amount of polyphenol (98.02 ± 1.74 mg GAE/100 g) and tannin (447.98 ± 9.96 mg TE/100 g) and anchor (771.35 ± 3.76 mg CE/100 g) was rich in flavonoids as compared to other two pulse samples. Mung was also rich in ash, carbohydrate, vitamin B1, copper and anchor was rich in crude fiber, protein, reducing sugar, and vitamin B2 content. The highest amount of phytochemicals contained in mung and anchor corresponded to its highest antioxidant activity in analyzed antioxidant assays respectively. Other two pulses included in this study were found to contain good source of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients.
