Arbuscular mycorrhiza and plant growth promoting endophytes facilitates accumulation of saponin under moderate drought stress

Objective: Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis, one of the important medicinal plant resources in Yunnan,China, usually takes 6–8 years to be harvested. Therefore, it is urgent to find a method that can not only shorten its growth years, but also improve its quality. In this study, we examined the effects of a combination treatment of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF) and plant growth-promoting endophytes(PGPE)and drought stress on the accumulation of saponins in it.Methods: P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis was infected with a mixture of AMF and PGPE under drought stress. The content of saponins, as well as morphological, physiological, and biochemical indicators, were all measured. The UGTs gene related to saponin synthesis was obtained from transcriptome data by homologous comparison, which were used for RT-PCR and phylogenetic analysis.Results: Regardless of water, AMF treatment could infect the roots of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis, however double inoculation with AMF and PGPE(AMF + PGPE) would reduce the infection rate of AMF. Plant height, aboveground and underground fresh weight did not differ significantly between the single inoculation AMF and the double inoculation treatment under different water conditions, but the inoculation treatment significantly increased the plant height of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis compared to the noninoculation treatment. Single inoculation with AMF considerably increased the net photosynthetic rate,stomatal conductance, and transpiration rate of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis leaves under various water conditions, but double inoculation with AMF + PGPE greatly increased the intercellular CO2concentration and chlorophyll fluorescence parameter(Fv/Fm). Under diverse water treatments, single inoculation AMF had the highest proline content, whereas double inoculation AMF + PGPE may greatly improve the amount of abscisic acid(ABA) and indoleacetic acid(IAA) compared to normal water under moderate drought. Deep electrical structures of Qinzhou-Fangcheng Junction Zone in Guangxi and seismogenic environment of the 1936 lingshan M6^(3/4)earthquake

The tectonic position of the southwest section of the Qinzhou Bay-Hangzhou Bay Tectonic Junction Zone(QHTJZ)can be determined by examining the Qinzhou-Fangcheng Junction Zone(QFJZ)in Guangxi.This zone is significant because it was the location of the largest earthquake ever recorded in the inland region of South China,specifically the 1936 lingshan M6^(3/4)earthquake in Guangxi.Therefore,this region serves as an optimal location for researching the origins of intraplate earthquakes in South China.This study presents a display of a broadband magnetotelluric(MT)prospecting profile that traverses the Guangxi QFJZ and the lingshan earthquake zone,extending from the northwest(NW)to the southeast(SE).A resistivity structure model was generated using three-dimensional(3D)inversion technology along the profile.The main faults in QFJZ were analyzed in terms of their deep extension forms and tectonic attributes.This analysis was performed by integrating the results obtained from geology,gravity,wave velocity ratio,Global Position System(GPS),and geothermal flow.The results showed that(1)the Dongzhong-Xiaodong fault(DXf),the eastern Fangcheng-lingshan fault(FLf2),and the eastern Hepu-Beiliu fault(HBf2)were all trans-crustal deep faults,and crust-mantle ductile shear zones developed in the deep part.Two electrical boundary zones,DXf and HBf2,were identified.DXf inclined towards the northwest,while HBf2 inclined towards the southeast.The Fangchenglingshan fault(FLf)exhibits a tectonic style resembling a“flower”shape in the upper crust.In the deeper section,it is characterized by an electrical boundary zone that gradually slopes towards the southeast direction.(2)The Hunan-Guangxi Passive Continental Margin(HGPCM)on the NW side of DXf had a stratified resistivity structure and relatively stable Bouguer gravity anomalies,which conformed to the quasi-craton tectonic attribute of the local failure at the southeastern margin of the Yangtze Block(YB).The southeastern side of this block is marked by the presence of the QFJZ and Yunk

Gastrointestinal problems in a valproic acid-induced rat model of autism: From maternal intestinal health to offspring intestinal function

BACKGROUND Autism spectrum disorder(ASD)is a developmental disorder characterized by social deficits and repetitive behavior.Gastrointestinal(GI)problems,such as constipation,diarrhea,and inflammatory bowel disease,commonly occur in patients with ASD.Previously,GI problems of ASD patients were attributed to intestinal inflammation and vertical mother-to-infant microbiome transmission.AIM To explore whether GI problems in ASD are related to maternal intestinal inflam-mation and gut microbiota abnormalities.METHODS An ASD rat model was developed using valproic acid(VPA).Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and fecal 16S rRNA sequencing were used to test GI changes.RESULTS VPA exposure during pregnancy led to pathological maternal intestinal changes,resulting in alterations in maternal gut microbiota.Additionally,the levels of inflammatory factors also increased.Moreover,prenatal exposure to VPA resulted in impaired duodenal motility in the offspring as well as increased levels of infla-mmatory factors.CONCLUSION GI problems in ASD may be associated with maternal intestinal inflammation and microbiota abnormality.Future research is required to find more evidence on the etiology and treatment of GI problems in ASD.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is an acute respiratory infection caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).SARS-CoV-2 infection typically presents with fever and respiratory symptoms,which can progress to severe respiratory distress syndrome and multiple organ failure.In severe cases,these complications may even lead to death.One of the causes of COVID-19 deaths is the cytokine storm caused by an overactive immune response.Therefore,suppressing the overactive immune response may be an effective strategy for treating COVID-19.Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)and their derived exosomes(MSCs-Exo)have potent homing abilities,immunomodulatory functions,regenerative repair,and antifibrotic effects,promising an effective tool in treating COVID-19.In this paper,we review the main mechanisms and potential roles of MSCs and MSCs-Exo in treating COVID-19.We also summarize relevant recent clinical trials,including the source of cells,the dosage and the efficacy,and the clinical value and problems in this field,providing more theoretical references for the clinical use of MSCs and MSCs-Exo in the treatment of COVID-19.

Perspective of Calcium Imaging Technology Applied to Acupuncture Research

Acupuncture, a therapeutic treatment defined as the insertion of needles into the body at specific points(ie, acupoints), has growing in popularity world-wide to treat various diseases effectively, especially acute and chronic pain. In parallel, interest in the physiological mechanisms underlying acupuncture analgesia, particularly the neural mechanisms have been increasing. Over the past decades, our understanding of how the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system process signals induced by acupuncture has developed rapidly by using electrophysiological methods. However, with the development of neuroscience, electrophysiology is being challenged by calcium imaging in view field, neuron population and visualization in vivo. Owing to the outstanding spatial resolution, the novel imaging approaches provide opportunities to enrich our knowledge about the neurophysiological mechanisms of acupuncture analgesia at subcellular, cellular, and circuit levels in combination with new labeling, genetic and circuit tracing techniques. Therefore, this review will introduce the principle and the method of calcium imaging applied to acupuncture research. We will also review the current findings in pain research using calcium imaging from in vitro to in vivo experiments and discuss the potential methodological considerations in studying acupuncture analgesia.

Effect of percutaneous electrical stimulation at the Baliao point on preventing postpartum urinary retention after labor analgesia

BACKGROUND Anesthetic drugs used in labor analgesia also paralyze the bladder muscle by blocking the sacral plexus,thereby affecting maternal postpartum spontaneous urination and increasing the risk of postpartum urinary retention(PUR).AIM To analyze the effect of percutaneous electrical stimulation at the Baliao point combined with biofeedback therapy for PUR prevention.METHODS We selected 182 pregnant women who received labor analgesia in obstetrics between June 2022 and December 2023.They were divided into the combined therapy group(transcutaneous electrical stimulation of the Baliao point combined with biofeedback therapy)and the control group(biofeedback therapy alone).The first spontaneous urination time,first postpartum urine volume,bladder residual urine volume,postpartum hemorrhage volume,pre-urination waiting time,PUR incidence,adverse reactions,and the intervention’s clinical efficacy were compared between the two groups.RESULTS The first spontaneous urination time after delivery was more delayed(2.92±1.04 h vs 3.61±1.13 h,Plinical total efficacy rate of the intervention was significantly higher in the combined therapy group than in the control group(95.35%vs 84.15%,P=0.016).CONCLUSION Percutaneous electrical stimulation of the Baliao point combined with biofeedback can significantly promote postpartum micturition of parturients with labor analgesia,thereby effectively preventing PUR occurrence.

Engineering of Ag@Pd/Al_(2)O_(3)with varied Pd-shell thickness:Dynamic evolution of ligand and strain effects on acetylene selective hydrogenation

Bimetallic nanoparticles exhibit a synergistic effect that critically depends on their surface composition,but such promotion mechanisms become vague with varying surface compositions.Here,alumina supported Ag@Pd core–shell and PdAg alloy structure with controlled size and surface compositions were prepared to demonstrate synergetic mechanisms,particularly,ligand and strain effects on activity and ethylene selectivity for acetylene hydrogenation.The performance evaluation indicates that Ag@Pd catalysts with well-controlled Pd-shell thickness can effectively lower apparent activation energy and improve ethylene selectivity.Hydrogenation activity increases from 0.019 to 0.062 s^(-1) with decreasing Pd-shell thickness under mild conditions,which is 3–6 times higher than their alloyed and monometallic counterparts.Combined characterizations and density functional theory are conducted to reveal such shell-thickness-dependent performance.The ligand effect arising from Ag alloying in the interface of Ag@Pd2ML observes the strongest binding of acetylene,but it diminished sharply and the strain effect gets more prevailing with increasing shell thickness.The competition of ethylene desorption and deephydrogenation were also investigated to understand the selectivity governing factors,and the selectivity descriptor(0.5BE(C_(2)H_(4))–BE(H))was built to match the contribution of ligand and strain effect on the different surfaces of Pd-Ag bimetallic NPs.The exploration of synergetic mechanisms among bimetallic NPs with varied structure and surface compositions in this work can help us to deepen the understanding catalyst structure–activity relationship and provide a feasible way to optimize the overall catalytic performance.

BACKGROUND Acute pancreatitis(AP)is a common inflammatory disease of the pancreas with high mortality rates.It is of great significance to take scientific intervention measures for patients with AP in time.AIM To explore the effect of standardized nursing combined with mindfulness stress reduction training on the curative effect,negative emotion,and quality of life in patients with acute pancreatitis.METHODS A total of 80 patients with acute pancreatitis admitted to The First People's Hospital of Jiangxia District Hospital from May 2021 to May 2023 were randomly divided into control group and observation group(n=40).Patients in control group were given the standardized nursing intervention,and the observation group were given standardized nursing plus mindfulness stress reduction training intervention.The time of clinical symptom disappeared or improved,complication occurrence rate,emotional state,and quality of life score of the two groups were observed and compared.RESULTS In comparison with the control group,the bowel sound recovery time,ventosity and abdominal pain improvement time,and venting and cacation time in observation group were shorter,and the total incidence rate of complications was reduced,showing statistically significant difference(Plife quality in physiology,psychology,environment and social relations in observation group were higher than those in control group,and the differences were statistically significant(Plication of standardized nursing intervention combined with mindfulness stress reduction training in patients with acute pancreatitis has a definite effect,which can help to ameliorate the clinical symptoms,anxiety and depression of patients,reduce the incidence rate of complications,and improve

A 78-MHz BW Continuous-Time Sigma-Delta ADC with Programmable VCO Quantizer

This article presents a high speed third-order continuous-time(CT)sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter(SDADC)based on voltagecontrolled oscillator(VCO),featuring a digital programmable quantizer structure.To improve the overall performance,not only oversampling technique but also noise-shaping enhancing technique is used to suppress in-band noise.Due to the intrinsic first-order noise-shaping of the VCO quantizer,the proposed third-order SDADC can realize forth-order noise-shaping ideally.As a bright advantage,the proposed programmable VCO quantizer is digital-friendly,which can simplify the design process and improve antiinterference capability of the circuit.A 4-bit programmable VCO quantizer clocked at 2.5 GHz,which is proposed in a 40 nm complementary metaloxide semiconductor(CMOS)technology,consists of an analog VCO circuit and a digital programmable quantizer,achieving 50.7 dB signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)and 26.9 dB signal-to-noise-and-distortion ration(SNDR)for a 19 MHz−3.5 dBFS input signal in 78 MHz bandwidth(BW).The digital quantizer,which is programmed in the Verilog hardware description language(HDL),consists of two-stage D-flip-flop(DFF)based registers,XOR gates and an adder.The presented SDADC adopts the cascade of integrators with feed-forward summation(CIFF)structure with a third-order loop filter,operating at 2.5 GHz and showing behavioral simulation performance of 92.9 dB SNR over 78 MHz bandwidth.

Engineering the Interface and Interaction Structure on Highly Coke-Resistant Ni/CeO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3) Catalyst for Dry Reforming of Methane

Designing and tailoring metal-support interaction in Ni-based catalysts with plentiful interfacial sites is of significant interest for achieving a targeted catalytic performance in dry reforming of methane (DRM),but remains as a challenging task.In this work,Ni/Al_(2)O_(3)and Ni/CeO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)catalysts with the same strong metal-support interaction(SMSI) but distinct interface structure are developed by an improved evaporation-induced self-assembly method using pseudobohemite gel as aluminum source.Ni/CeO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)exhibits superior catalytic activity and stability in DRM in comparison with Ni/Al_(2)O_(3).The highest CH4and CO_(2)conversion reaches at 71.4%and 82.1%for Ni/CeO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3),which are higher than that of 64.3% and 75.6% for Ni/Al_(2)O_(3)at 700℃.The SMSI effect in Ni/CeO_(2)-Al_(2)O_(3)provides more active interfacial sites with less coke deposition,and promotes the generation of active formate species which are the key intermediates for DRM.The findings of the present work could possibly pave the way for fabricating catalysts with SMSI strategy for efficient heterogeneous catalysis.
