Clinical outcomes of angiosarcoma:a single institution experience

Dear Editor,Angiosarcoma is a rare malignancy,which accounts for approximately 1%-2%of soft-tissue sarcomas[1].It can occur at any site within the human *** research-ers suggested that site distribution may be different between Eastern Asian and Western countries[1].Sev-eral factors,such as age,stage at diagnosis,performance status,site of the disease,histological grade,tumor size,and visceral involvement,were suggested as prognos-tic factors in angiosarcoma[2-5].However,there is still controversy regarding to which prognostic factors are significantly *** there are no randomized clinical trials for angiosarcoma,its treatments are guided based on guidelines of soft-tissue sarcoma or the results of several retrospective *** surgery is the preferred treatment for angiosarcoma[2-4].Some stud-ies suggested that receiving adjuvant chemotherapy(CT)is associated with better outcome[5],while other studies have shown that adjuvant CT has no significant effect[6,7].Chemoradiotherapy has been reported to be effective in angiosarcoma especially for cutaneous angiosarcoma[8].However,evidence for the efficacy and safety of pal-liative cytotoxic CT is still ***,here,we present our analysis based on the clinical features,tumor characteristics,treatment and outcomes of angiosarcoma patients in an attempt to investigate the significant prog-nostic factors and efficient therapeutics in real clinical practice.

Clinical significance of MET gene amplification in metastatic or locally advanced gastric cancer treated with first-line fluoropyrimidine and platinum combination chemotherapy

Objective: To investigate the clinical significance of MET gene amplification in patients with gastric cancer in the palliative ***: MET amplification was assessed using fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH) in 50 patients and quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) in 326 patients;259 patients treated with first-line fluoropyrimidine and platinum were included for survival ***: The results of FISH and qPCR indicated that the c-MET/CEP7 ratio was correlated with gene copy number. The optimal cutoff value for the copy number using qPCR to detect MET gene amplification with FISH was 5(κ=0.778, P5 detected by qPCR. MET-amplified gastric cancer was associated with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group(ECOG) performance status(PS) score of ≥2(33.3% vs. 10.5% P=0.007), peritoneal metastasis(76.2% vs. 46.2%, P=0.008), and elevated bilirubin levels(28.6% vs. 7.3%, P=0.006). The median overall survival(OS) and progression-free survival(PFS) were 11.9 and 5.6 months, respectively. MET-amplified gastric cancer was not associated with survival outcomes [hazard ratio(HR)=0.68, 95% confidence interval(95% CI): 0.35-1.32,P=0.254 for PFS;HR=0.68, 95% CI: 0.35-1.32, P=0.251 for OS].Conclusions: qPCR can be used to detect MET gene amplification. MET amplification was not a predictor of poor prognosis in patients with metastatic or unresectable gastric cancer.

A critical challenge hindering the practical application of lithium–oxygen batteries(LOBs)is the inevitable problems associated with liquid electrolytes,such as evaporation and safety *** study addresses these problems by proposing a modified polyrotaxane(mPR)-based solid polymer electrolyte(SPE)design that simultaneously mitigates solvent-related problems and improves ***-SPE exhibits high ion conductivity(2.8×10^(−3)S cm^(−1)at 25℃)through aligned ion conduction pathways and provides electrode protection ability through hydrophobic chain *** this mPR-SPE into solid-state LOBs resulted in stable potentials over 300 *** situ Raman spectroscopy reveals the presence of an LiO_(2)intermediate alongside Li_(2)O_(2)during oxygen *** situ X-ray diffraction confirm the ability of the SPE to hinder the permeation of oxygen and moisture,as demonstrated by the air permeability *** present study suggests that maintaining a low residual solvent while achieving high ionic conductivity is crucial for restricting the sub-reactions of solid-state LOBs.

Realizing highly immersive tactile interactions requires a skin-integrated,untethered,high-definition tactile transducer devices that can record and generate tactile ***,the rigid and bulky form factor,and insufficient resolution of existing actuators are hindering the reproduction of sophisticated tactile sensations and immersive user ***,we demonstrate an ultraflexible tactile interface with high spatial resolution of 1.8 mm for telehaptic communication on human *** mechanism sensors and sub-mm scale piezoceramic actuators are designed to record and generate the static and dynamic pressures in a wide frequency range(1 Hz to 1 kHz).Moreover,actuators are integrated on ultra-flexible substrate with chessboard pattern to minimize stress during mechanical ***,remote transmissions of various tactile stimuli,such as shapes,textures,and vibration patterns were demonstrated by the telehaptic system with low latency(<1.55 ms)and high fidelity as proven by the shorttime Fourier-transform analysis.

Statistical determination of significant curved I-girder bridge seismic response parameters

Curved steel bridges are commonly used at interchanges in transportation networks and more of these structures continue to be designed and built in the United States. Though the use of these bridges continues to increase in locations that experience high seismicity, the effects of curvature and other parameters on their seismic behaviors have been neglected in current risk assessment tools. These tools can evaluate the seismic vulnerability of a transportation network using fragility curves. One critical component of fragility curve development for curved steel bridges is the completion of sensitivity analyses that help identify influential parameters related to their seismic response. In this study, an accessible inventory of existing curved steel girder bridges located primarily in the Mid-Atlantic United States （MAUS） was used to establish statistical characteristics used as inputs for a seismic sensitivity study. Critical seismic response quantities were captured using 3D nonlinear finite element models. Influential parameters from these quantities were identified using statistical tools that incorporate experimental Plackett-Burman Design （PBD）, which included Pareto optimal plots and prediction profiler techniques. The findings revealed that the potential variation in the influential parameters included number of spans, radius of curvature, maximum span length, girder spacing, and cross-frame spacing. These parameters showed varying levels of influence on the critical bridge response.

Intensive-visible-light-responsive ANbO_(2)N(A = Sr, Ba) synthesized from layered perovskite A_(5)Nb_(4)O_(15) for enhanced photoelectrochemical water splitting

Nb-based, perovskite-type oxynitrides ANb(O,N)_(3)(A = Sr, Ba) have been significantly attractive semiconductor materials for photoelectrochemical(PEC) water splitting due to their absorption abilities of intensive-visible-light. However, PEC activities of these perovskites are relatively low due to reduction of Nb species during nitridation leading to the generation of anion defects and impurity ***, we propose nitridation of A-rich, layered perovskite A_(5)Nb_(4)O_(15) as starting oxides for general synthesis of photoactive ANbO_(2)N. These layered perovskite A_(5)Nb_(4)O_(15) were completely transformed to single phase perovskite-type ANbO_(2)N by nitridation. Wavelength onsets of light absorption were observed at 700 nm for SrNbO_(2)N and at 740 nm for BaNbO_(2)N. According to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results,excess Lewis base A species significantly suppressed the generation of reduced species such as Nb^(4+) and Nb^(3+)during nitridation, although it led to an amorphous surface of the as-prepared *** annealing in Ar largely enhanced surface crystallinity of ANbO_(2)N. As a result, Co(OH)_(x)/ANbO_(2)N/FTO photoanodes, prepared by loading Co(OH)_(x) electrocatalyst, showed high photocurrent density of 1.6(A = Sr) and 2.4 m A cm^(-2)(A = Ba) at 1.23 VRHEunder AM 1.5 G simulated sunlight. These results demonstrate that A-rich layered perovskite A_(5)Nb_(4)O_(15)are effective starting precursors for preparing lowdefective ANbO_(2)N, thus improving PEC water splitting activity.

Mott insulator-superfluid phase transition in a detuned multi-connected Jaynes-Cummings lattice

The connectivity and tunability of superconducting quantum devices provide a rich platform to build quantum simulators and study novel many-body physics. Here we study quantum phase transition in a detuned multi-connected Jaynes-Cummings lattice, which can be constructed with superconducting circuits. This model is composed of alternatively connected qubits and cavity *** a numerical method, we show that by varying the detuning between the qubits and the cavities, a phase transition from the superfluid phase to the Mott insulator phase occurs at commensurate fillings in a one-dimensional array. We study the phase transition in lattices with symmetric and asymmetric couplings, respectively.

Recent advances in plant membrane-bound transcription factor research: Emphasis on intracellular movement

Transcription factors constitute numerous signal transduction networks and play a central role in gene expression regulation. Recent studies have shown that a limited portion of transcription factors are anchored in the cellular membrane, storing as dormant forms. Upon exposure to environmental and developmental cues, these transcription factors are released from the membrane and translocated to the nucleus, where they regulate associated target genes. As this process skips both transcriptional and translational regulations, it guarantees prompt response to external and internal signals. Membrane- bound transcription factors （MTFs） undergo several unique steps that are not involved in the action of canonical nuclear transcription factors： proteolytic processing and intracellular movement. Recently, alternative splicing has also emerged as a mechanism to liberate MTFs from the cellular membranes, establishing an additional activation scheme independent of proteolytic processing. Multiple layers of MTF regulation add complexity to transcriptional regulatory scheme and ensure elaborate action of MTFs. In this review, we provide an overview of recent findings on MTFs in plants and highlight the molecular mechanisms underlying MTF liberation from cellular membranes with an emphasis on intracellular movement.

Effectiveness Analysis of DVFS and DPM in Mobile Devices

The demand for high-performance embedded processors in multimedia mobile electronics is growing and their power consumption thus increasingly threatens battery lifetime. It is usually believed that the dynamic voltage and frequency scaling （DVFS） feature saves significant energy by changing the performance levels of processors to match the performance demands of applications on the fly. However, because the energy efficiency of embedded processors is rapidly improving, the effectiveness of DVFS is expected to change. In this paper, we analyze the benefit of DVFS in state-of-the-art mobile embedded platforms in comparison to those in servers or PCs. To obtain a clearer view of the relationship between power and performance, we develop a measurement methodology that can synchronize time series for power consumption with those for processor utilization. The results show that DVFS hardly improves the energy efficiency of mobile multimedia electronics, and can even significantly worsen energy efficiency and performance in some cases. According to this observation, we suggest that power management for mobile electronics should concentrate on adaptive and intelligent power management for peripherM devices. As a preliminary design, we implement an adaptive network interface card （NIC） speed control that reduces power consumption by 1070 when NIC is not heavily used. Our results provide valuable insights into the design of power management schemes for future mobile embedded systems.
