Solitary acral persistent papular mucinosis nodule:A case report and summary of eight Korean cases

BACKGROUND Acral persistent papular mucinosis(APPM)is a rare idiopathic subtype of localized lichen *** date,there have been 40 APPM cases reported worldwide;however,only 7 cases have been reported in the Korean *** SUMMARY A 70-year-old man was referred to our hospital with a solitary pinkish nodule on the dorsum of his right *** the absence of symptoms,the patient wanted to know the exact diagnosis;thus,a biopsy was *** examination of a biopsy specimen obtained from the nodule on the dorsum of his hand revealed orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis with patchy parakeratosis,prominent hypergranulosis,and diffuse dissecting mucinous deposition between collagen bundles,along with some bland-looking spindle cells throughout the *** nodule was histologically diagnosed as an APPM,and an intralesional triamcinolone injection(2.5 mg/mL)was started every 2 *** three sessions of treatment,the patient showed marked *** To the best of our knowledge,this is the first case of a Korean APPM presenting as a solitary nodule that showed a marked response to triamcinolone intralesional *** it is a rare disease,we report this case to contribute to future research on the pathogenesis and treatment of APPM.

Increasing demand for real-time healthcare monitoring is leading to advances in thin and flexible optoelectronic device-based wearable pulse *** previous studies have used OLEDs for this purpose,but did not consider the side effects of broad full-width half-maximum(FWHM)characteristics and single *** this study,we performed SpO_(2)measurement using a fiber-based quantum-dot pulse oximetry(FQPO)system capable of mass production with a transferable encapsulation technique,and a narrow FWHM of about 30 *** on analyses we determined that uniform angular narrow FWHM-based light sources are important for accurate SpO_(2)measurements through multi-layer structures and human skin *** FQPO was shown to have improved photoplethysmogram(PPG)signal sensitivity with no waveguide-mode noise signal,as is typically generated when using a single substrate(30–50%).We successfully demonstrate improved SpO_(2)measurement accuracy as well as all-in-one clothing-type pulse oximetry with FQPO.

Development of analytical methods for the determination of phytosterols in whole grains is one of growing interests due to their clinical and nutritional functions in human. In this study, we examined simultaneous determination of β-si tosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol in Korean rice cultivars by liquid chromatography atmospheric chemical ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (LC-APCI-TOF-MS). The hulled rice samples were extracted using a modified QuEChERS and analyzed by LC-APCI -TOF-MS. The method was validated by low limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) values and high recovery values with low relative standard deviation (RSD). The highest concentration of sitosterol was detected in Hwasung and Undu rice cultivars, exhibiting approximately 195.5 and 191.7 mg/Kg, respectively. Stigmasterol and campesterol were detected at the highest level in Hwasung rice cultivar, giving the concentrations of approximately 70.0 and 53.9 mg/Kg, respectively. Sitosterol was determined to be a main phytosterol detected in the rice samples. Our data demonstrated that LC/APCI-TOF- MS coupled with QuEChERS method can be used as a simple tool for the determination of phytosterols in rice samples.

Comparative Study of Various Preparation Methods of Colloidal Silica

Colloidal silica can be prepared by various methods and starting materials including ion exchange of aqueous silicates, hydrolysis and condensation of silicon compounds, direct oxidation of silicon, and milling and peptization of silica powder. Various silica sols having particle sizes of 10-60 nm prepared by these methods and the preparation methods have been compared on the basis of their shape, size uniformity, sphericity, stability against pH variation, cation concentration, and price, etc. Silica sol prepared from tetraethoxysilane affords uniform size control and growth, and high purity, despite the relatively high costs. Silica sol prepared from liquid silicates affords relatively easy size and shape control;however, it is difficult to lower the alkali content to a level that is appropriate for carrying out semiconductor chemical mechanical polishing processes;in addition, the waste water treatment carried out for recovering the ion exchange resin gives rise environmental consideration. The properties of colloidal silica prepared from fumed silica powder by milling and dispersion depend on the starting silica source and it is relatively difficult to obtain monodispersed particles using this method. Colloidal silica prepared from silicon by direct oxidation has a monodispersed spherical shape and purity control with reasonable prices. It generates less waste water because it can be directly produced in relatively high concentrations. The cation fraction located in the particle relative to the free cation in the fluid is relatively lower in the silica sol prepared by the direct oxidation than others. A careful comparison of colloidal silica and the preparation methods may help in choosing the proper colloidal silica that is the most appropriate for the application being considered.

Alzheimer'sdisease(AD)isaprogressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairment and distinct neuropathological features,including amyloid-β plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and reactive astrogliosis. Developing effective diagnostic,preventative, and therapeutic strategies for AD necessitates the establishment of animal models that accurately recapitulate the pathophysiological processes of the disease. Existing transgenic mouse models have significantly contributed to understanding AD pathology but often fail to replicate the complexity of human ***, these models are limited in their ability to elucidate the interplay among amyloid-β plaques,neurofibrillary tangles, and reactive astrogliosis due to the absence of spatially and temporally specific genetic manipulation. In this study, we introduce a novel AD mouse model(APP/PS1-TauP301L-Adeno mice) designed to rapidly induce pathological symptoms and enhance understanding of AD mechanisms. Neurofibrillary tangles and severe reactive astrogliosis were induced by injecting AAVDJ-EF1a-hTauP301L-EGFP and Adeno-GFAP-GFP viruses into the hippocampi of 5-month-old APP/PS1 *** months post-injection, these mice exhibited pronounced astrogliosis, substantial amyloid-β plaque accumulation,extensiveneurofibrillarytangles,accelerated neuronal loss, elevated astrocytic GABA levels, and significant spatial memory deficits. Notably,these pathological features were less severe in AAVTauP301L-expressing APP/PS1 mice without augmented reactive astrogliosis. These findings indicate an exacerbating role of severe reactive astrogliosis in amyloid-β plaque and neurofibrillary tangle-associated pathology. The APP/PS1-TauP301L-Adeno mouse model provides a valuable tool for advancing therapeutic research aimed at mitigating the progression of AD.

In this article, we have attempted to analyze current situation and the problem of domestic and overseas harbor container delivery & cargo work automation centered on major harbors and to suggest effective way to deal with the issue in order to improve the productivity of container cargo work per crane, the major index of productivity of high value-added shipbuilding industry. In particular, we have suggested the way to realize effective automation system that can improve the efficiency of harbor container delivery & cargo work through the development of high-tech measuring automation technology using microwave radar and applied design that have broken away from traditional automation system and traditional problems such as dependence on manual work and the problem of laser method in which workers cannot identify laser beam under sunlight and workers’ eyesight can be weakened by being exposed to laser beam.

A clothing-type wearable display can be utilized in fashion,bio-healthcare,and safety industries as well as smart textiles for the internet of things(IoTs)and wearable *** response to this trend,we demonstrate a textile display that can endure the active movements of a human *** can be applied to any kind of textile,and is durable against conditions such as rain,sweat,and *** a key technology for realizing the multi-directional wrinkle-able textile display,we fabricated a stress-lowering textile platform with an ultrathin planarization layer replicated from the flat surface of *** elastomeric strain buffer for reducing mechanical stress is also inserted into the textile ***,organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)with red,green and blue color,thin film transistors(TFTs)fabricated at a low temperature below 150℃,and a washable encapsulation layer blocking both gas and liquid were demonstrated on the textile platform.

To emulate the functionality of the human retina and achieve a neuromorphic visual system,the development of a photonic synapse capable of multispectral color discrimination is of paramount ***,attaining robust color discrimination across a wide intensity range,even irrespective of medium limitations in the channel layer,poses a significant ***,we propose an approach that can bestow the color-discriminating synaptic functionality upon a three-terminal transistor flash memory even with enhanced discriminating *** incorporating the strong induced dipole moment effect at the excitation,modulated by the wavelength of the incident light,into the floating gate,we achieve outstanding RGB color-discriminating synaptic functionality within a remarkable intensity range spanning from 0.05 to 40 mW cm^(-2).This approach is not restricted to a specific medium in the channel layer,thereby enhancing its *** effectiveness of this color-discriminating synaptic functionality is demonstrated through visual pre-processing of a photonic synapse array,involving the differentiation of RGB channels and the enhancement of image contrast with noise ***,a convolutional neural network can achieve an impressive inference accuracy of over 94%for Canadian-Institute-For-Advanced-Research-10 colorful image recognition task after the *** proposed approach offers a promising solution for achieving robust and versatile RGB color discrimination in photonic synapses,enabling significant advancements in artificial visual systems.

X-rays are commonly used for inspecting semiconductors. however, excessive radiation dose could damage semiconductors. Therefore, unnecessary exposure needs to be reduced. The ray quality, which is influenced by the tube voltage and filter, determines the exposure. We designed an X-ray tube for inspecting semiconductors with different target/filter combinations and calculated X-ray spectra using the MCNPX （Monte Carlo n-particle extended） code. The target material was W, and the filters were made of Mo, W, and Zr. The W/W combination showed the lowest flux. The MCNPX code can reduce the development time and cost of the target/filter combination for inspecting semiconductors.
