Effect of Terrestrial LiDAR Point Sam.ling Density in Ephem.ral Gully Characterization

Gully erosion can account for significant volum.s of sedim.nt exiting agricultural landscapes, but is difficult to m.nitor and quantify its evolution with traditional surveying technology. Scientific investigations of gullies depend on accurate and detailed topographic inform.tion to understand and evaluate the com.lex interactions between field topography and gully evolution. Detailed terrain representations can be produced by new technologies such as terrestrial LiDAR system.. These system. are capable of collecting inform.tion with a wide range of ground point sam.ling densities as a result of operator controlled factors. Increasing point density results in richer datasets at a cost of increased tim. needed to com.lete field surveys. In large research watersheds, with hundreds of sites being m.nitored, data collection can becom. costly and tim. consum.ng. In this study, the effect of point sam.ling density on the capability to collect topographic inform.tion was investigated at individual gully scale. This was perform.d through the utilization of sem.-variogram. to produce overall guiding principles for m.lti-tem.oral gully surveys based on various levels of laser sam.ling points and relief variation (low, m.derate, and high). Results indicated the existence of a point sam.ling density threshold that produces little or no additional topographic inform.tion when exceeded. A reduced dataset was created using the density thresholds and com.ared to the original dataset with no m.jor discrepancy. Although variations in relief and soil roughness can lead to different point sam.ling density requirem.nts, the outcom. of this study serves as practical guidance for future field surveys of gully evolution and erosion.

Therm.lum.nescence study of rare earth ion (Dy^(3+)) doped LiF:m. crystals grown by EFG technique

This work describes investigation of radiation dosim.try characteristics of m.gnesium.（m.） doped lithium.fluoride （LiF） crystals co-doped with different concentrations of dysprosium.（Dy）. These crystals were grown by edge defined film.fed crystal growth （EFG） tech- nique. Therm.lum.nescence （TL） m.asurem.nts were m.de on as grown （AG） and annealed （AN） crystals after they were irradiated with a gam.a dose of 15 Gy. The influence and advantage of optim.zed Dy^3＋ concentration in enhancing the therm.lum.nescence （TL） properties of LiF：m. sam.les were discussed. The norm.lized peak height of the annealed crystals was nearly 3 tim.s that of the as grown crystals for the particular concentration sam.les irradiated with Co6~ gam.a source showed linearity up to 10 Gy. Therm.lum.nescence signal observed over a period of one m.nth showed negligible fading. Therm.lum.nescence glow curve structure of optim.zed phosphor rem.ined stable for higher doses of gam.a rays of 103 Gy. Glow curve was analyzed using com.uter glow curve deconvolution （CGCD） m.thod and trapping param.- ters were calculated.

Hydrom.gnetic oscillatory Couette flow in rotating system.with induced m.gnetic field

This paper presents a study of hydrom.gnetic Couette flow of an incom.ress- ible and electrically conducting fluid between two parallel rotating plates, one of which is oscillating in its own plane. A uniform.transverse m.gnetic field is used, and the induced m.gnetic field is taken into account. The exact solution to the governing equations is obtained in a closed form. The solution to the problem.in the case of vanishing and sm.ll finite m.gnetic Prandtl num.ers is also derived from.the general solution. The asym.- totic behavior of the solution for large values of the frequency param.ter is analyzed to gain som. physical insights into the flow pattern. Expressions for the shear stress at both the oscillatory and stationary plates due to prim.ry and secondary flows and m.ss flow rate in the prim.ry and secondary flow directions are also obtained. The results of the fluid velocity and the induced m.gnetic field are presented. The shear stresses on the plates due to the prim.ry and secondary flows and the corresponding m.ss flow rates are presented in a tabular form.

Hydrom.gnetic thin film.flow of Casson fluid in non-Darcy porous m.dium.with Joule dissipation and Navier＇s partial slip

In this paper, the effects of viscous and Ohm.c heating and heat genera- tion/absorption on m.gnetohydrodynam.c flow of an electrically conducting Casson thin film.fluid over an unsteady horizontal stretching sheet in a non-Darcy porous m.dium.are investigated. The fluid is assum.d to slip along the boundary of the sheet. Sim.lar- ity transform.tion is used to translate the governing partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. A shooting technique in conjunction with the 4th order Runge-Kutta m.thod is used to solve the transform.d equations. Com.utations are car- ried out for velocity and tem.erature of the fluid thin film.along with local skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt num.er for a range of values of pertinent flow param.ters. It is observed that the Casson param.ter has the ability to enhance free surface velocity and film.thickness, whereas the Forchheim.r param.ter, which, is responsible for the inertial drag has an adverse effect on the fluid velocity inside the film. The velocity slip along the boundary tends to decrease the fluid velocity. This investigation has various applications in engineering and in practical problem. such as very large scale integration （VLSI） of electronic chips and film.coating.

The Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point （GSSP） for the Katian Stage of the Upper Ordovician Series is defined as the 4.0 m.level above the base of the Bigfork Chert in the Black Knob Ridge section, southeastern Oklahom.. This point in this section is coincident with the first appearance of the graptolite Diplacanthograptus caudatus, which has proved to be a reliable datum.for precise worldwide correlation. The FAD ofD. caudatus occurs very near the first occurrences of the graptolites D. lanceolatus, *** am.ricanus, Orthograptus pageanus, O. quadrim.cronatus, Dicranograptus hians, and Neurograptus m.rgaritatus. This rapid succession of fossil species appearance events provides a secure basis for identification of the base of the Katian Stage of the Upper Ordovician Series and for its global chronostratigraphic correlation.

The viability of som. waste as cooling pads for evaporative cooling application in South-Western Nigeria was experim.ntally *** is to ascertain their effectiveness as a substitute for costly im.orted pads in a low incom. *** presented was the feasibility of utilizing standalone evaporative coolers for storage and selling of fruits in South-Western *** am.ient air was forced through the various pads at three different fan speeds and constant cooling pad thickness of 30 *** characteristics were considered based on daily analysis using tem.erature and hum.dity data m.asured from.m.rning to evening at location co-ordinates latitude 7°10′N and longitude 5°05′E for 6 *** daily tem.erature T and hum.dity h ranged between 26℃≤T≤45℃ and 28%≤h_(2)≤80%.Tem.erature differenceDT and hum.dity differenceDh of 0.6℃≤ΔT≤18.3℃ and 1.0%≤Δh≤53%was achieved for the four cooling pad m.terials tested at three fan *** andDh was recorded at fan speed of 4 m.s with shredded latex foam.and jute sack *** cooling efficiency(η)calculated for all the pads under the three speeds ranged from.17.3%≤η≤98.8%.Payback period(PBP)analysis indicated the considered EVC is econom.cally feasible and investors will break even in 1.75 years.
