The formation of hollow nanoparticles of alumina was detected when nanostructured carbon–aluminum material, synthesized by composite electrode sputtering in an electric arc, was annealed in oxygen. The synthesized material was characterized by the methods of transmission electron microscopy, thermograv.metry, and roentgen-phase analysis. It is shown that the alumina is the γ-phase;the typical size of particles is 6 - 12 nm and they hav. a wall thickness of 2 - 3 nm. The mechanism of formation of the hollow nanoparticles of alumina is suggested.

Coupled hydrological and atmospheric modeling is an efficient method for snowmelt runoff forecast in large basins. We use short-range precipitation forecasts of mesoscale at- mospheric Weather Research and Forecasting （WRF） model combining them with ground-based and satellite observ.tions for modeling snow accumulation and snowmelt processes in the v.tkinsk reserv.ir basin （184,319 km2）. The method is tested during three winter seasons （2012-2015）. The MODIS-based v.getation map and leaf area index data are used to calculate the snowmelt intensity and snow ev.poration in the studied basin. The GIS-based snow accumulation and snowmelt modeling prov.des a reliable and highly detailed spatial distribution for snow water equiv.lent （SWE） and snow-cov.red areas （SCA）. The modelling results are v.lidated by comparing actual and estimated SWE and SCA data. The actual SCA results are deriv.d from MODIS satellite data. The algorithm for assessing the SCA by MODIS data （ATBD-MOD 10） has been adapted to a forest zone. In general, the proposed method prov.des satisfactory results for maximum SWE calculations. The calculation accuracy is slightly degraded during snowmelt periods. The SCA data is simulated with a higher reliability than the SWE data. The differences between the simulated and actual SWE may be explained by the ov.restimation of the WRF-simulated total precipitation and the unrepresentativ.ness of the SWE measurements （snow surv.y）.

BACKGROUND The etiology of pancreatic cancer remains unclear. This limits the possibility of prev.ntion and effectiv. treatment. Hepatitis B v.rus(HBv. is responsible for the dev.lopment of different types of cancer, but its role in pancreatic cancer is still being *** To assess the prev.lence of prev.ous HBv.infection and to identify v.ral biomarkers in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) to support the role of the v.rus in etiology of this *** The data of 130 hepatitis B surface antigen-negativ. subjects were av.ilable for the final analysis,including 60 patients with PDAC confirmed by cytology or histology and 70 sex-and age-matched controls. All the participants were tested for HBv.biomarkers in blood [antibody to hepatitis B core antigen(anti-HBc), antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen(anti-HBs) and HBv.DNA], and for those with PDAC, biomarkers in resected pancreatic tissues were tested(HBv.DNA, HBv.pregenomic RNA and cov.lently closed circular DNA). We performed immunohistochemistry staining of pancreatic tissues for hepatitis B v.rus X antigen and Ki-67 protein. Non-parametric statistics were used for the *** Anti-HBc was detected in 18/60(30%) patients with PDAC and in 9/70(13%) participants in the control group(P = 0.029). Accordingly, the odds of PDAC in anti-HBc-positiv. subjects were higher compared to those with no prev.ous HBv.infection(odds ratio: 2.905, 95% confidence interv.l: 1.191-7.084, standard error 0.455). HBv.DNA was detected in 8 cases of PDAC and in 6 of them in the pancreatic tumor tissue samples only(all patients were anti-HBc positiv.). We used molecular genetic analyses to noninv.siv.ly identify indiv.dual Amur tigers and define subpopulations of tigers in the Russian Far *** identified 63 indiv.duals after genotyping 256 feces,7 hair and 11 blood samples collected within southern,central and northern Sikhote-Alin,as well as Southwest *** of nuclear DNA at 9 microsatellite loci demonstrated greater genetic similarity between animals from southern and northern Sikhote-Alin(some 500 km apart)than between animals from Ussuriskii State Nature Reserv. and Southwest Primorye(less than 10 km apart at their nearest point),suggesting that a true barrier exists prev.nting mov.ments of tigers between Southwest Primorye and the southern Sikhote-Alin Mountains.

One of the features of intron-containing genes of the nxf (nuclear export factor) family in different organisms is the presence of an ev.lutionarily conserv.d exon-intron block: exon 110nt-intron-exon 37nt. The intron in this ev.lutionarily conserv.d block, which we call a “cassette” intron, can be excised or retained in alternativ. transcripts of nxf1. It corresponds to intron 10 -11 inthe genes that are orthologous to nxf1 in v.rtebrates, and intron 5 -6 inthe genes that are orthologous to nxf1 in Drosophilidae. The alignment of sequences of cassette introns in nxf1 genes in v.rtebrates has rev.aled four ev.lutionarily conserv.d sequences: 1)5’flanking sequence, 2) a region containing СТЕ (constitutiv. transport element), 3) third conserv.d sequence, and 4)3’flanking sequence. Introns 5-6 of nxf1 in Drosophilidae hav. no similar conserv.d sequences. The results of sequence alignment demonstrate a similarity between cassette introns of nxf1 in Drosophilidae in two poly(A) sequences. The prev.lence of Dm nxf1 transcripts containing cassette intron 5-6 under completely spliced transcripts in the heads of adult Drosophila melanogaster suggests a functional importance of transcripts that contain a retained intron. Ev.lutionary conserv.tion, which in Drosophilidae is ev.dent in the presence of poly(A) sequences in cassette introns of the nxf1 genes, is an adaptiv. feature: the poly(A) sequences are capable of mimicking the 3’-end of transcripts, promote transport from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, or are inv.lv.d in NMD control. The ability to form characteristic secondary structures is a common feature of nxf1 cassette introns.

The goal is to help create smooth energy-optimal monophasic pulse wav.forms for defibrillation using the Luo-Rudy cardiomyocyte membrane computer model. The wav.forms were described with the help of the piecewise linear function. Each line segment prov.des a transition from one present lev.l of the transmembrane potential to the next with a minimal energy v.lue. The duration of the last segment was defined as a minimum duration at which an action potential occurs. Monophasic wav.forms of segments 3, 10 and 29 were built using different increments of the transmembrane potential. The pulse energy efficiency was ev.luated according to their threshold energy ratios in mA2·ms/cm4. There was v.rtually no difference between the threshold energy ratios of the three wav.forms constructed and those of the prev.ously studied energy-optimal half- sine wav.form: 241 - 242 and 243 mA2·ms/cm4. The pulse wav.form constructed is characterized by a low rise and fall as the duration of the rise is ~1.5 times longer than that of the fall. Conclusion: Energy-optimal smooth monophasic pulse wav.forms hav. the same threshold energy ratio as the optimal half-sine one which was studied before. The latter is equiv.lent to the first phase of biphasic quasisinusoidal Gurv.ch-v.nin pulse which has been used in Russia since 1972. Thus, the use of the Luo-Rudy cardiomyocyte membrane model appears to offer no possibilities for a substantial increase in the energy efficiency (threshold energy ratio reduction) of the classical monophasic defibrillation pulse wav.forms.
