Fe Nanoclusters on the Ge（001） Surface Studied by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, Density Functional Theory Calculations and X-Ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism

The growth of Fe nanoclusters oN the Ge（001） surface has been studied using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy （STM） and density functional theory （DFT） calculations. STM results indicate that Fe nucleates on the Ge（001） surface, forming well-ordered nanoclusters of uniform size. Depending on the preparation conditions, two types of nanoclusters were observed having either four or sixteen Fe atoms within a nanocluster. The results were confirmed by DFT calculations. Annealing the nanoclusters at 420 K leads to the formation of nanorow structures, due to cluster mobility at such temperature. The Fe nanoclusters and nanorow structures formed on the Ge（001） surface show a superparamagnetic behaviour as measured by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism.

Solar-driven photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction to produce valuable chemicals and fuels offers an attractive strategy in alleviating the energy *** quantum dots(PtQDs)with TiO_(2) nanowire(TiO_(2)NW)/Ti_(3)C_(2) MXene heterostructures(Pt-TiO_(2)NW/Ti_(3)C_(2)) with tight interfacial contacts between the various components were prepared at room temperature via oxidation *** incorporated PtQDs played crucial roles as electron conduction bridges supported by the cocatalyst effect,effectively enhancing the separation efficiencies of photoinduced electron/hole pairs and improving CO_(2) reduction under simulated solar light *** Pt-TiO_(2)NW/Ti_(3)C_(2) heterostructures exhibited remarkable carbon monoxide(CO)and methane(CH_(4)) production at respective rates of 38.14 and 36.15μmol g^(-1)after 10 h of simulated solar light irradiation,an apparent quantum yield of 1.68%,and 79.2%selectivity for *** photocatalytic activities of the Pt-TiO_(2) NW/Ti_(3)C_(2) heterostructures for CO_(2) reduction were significantly enhanced compared to those of TiO_(2)NW/Ti_(3)C_(2) and the single-component photocatalysts,and they exhibited remarkable stabilities even after five *** addition,the densities of states and electronic characteristics of Ti_(3)C_(2) MXene and Pt-TiO_(2)NW/Ti_(3)C_(2) were studied using density functional theory,and a synergistic mechanism of the improvement in CO_(2) photoreduction is proposed.

E-beam manipulation of Si atoms on graphene edges with an aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope

The burgeoning field of atomic-level material control holds great promise for future breakthroughs in quantum and memristive device manufacture and fundamental studies of atomic-scale chemistry. Realization of atom-by-atom control of matter represents a complex and ongoing challenge. Here, we explore the feasibility of controllable motion of dopant Si atoms at the edges of graphene via the sub-atomically focused electron beam in a scanning transmission electron microscope. We demonstrate that the graphene edges can be cleaned of Si atoms and then subsequently replenished from nearby source material. It is also shown how Si edge atoms may be “pushed” from the edge of a small hole into the bulk of the graphene lattice and from the bulk of the lattice back to the edge. This is accomplished through sputtering of the edge of the graphene lattice to bury or uncover Si dopant atoms. Finally, we demonstrate e-beam mediated hole healing and incorporation of dopant atoms. These experiments form an initial step toward general atomic-scale material control.

BACKGROUND The etiology of pancreatic cancer remains unclear. This limits the possibility of prevention and effective treatment. Hepatitis B virus(HBv) is responsible for the development of different types of cancer, but its role in pancreatic cancer is still being *** To assess the prevalence of previous HBv infection and to identify viral biomarkers in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) to support the role of the virus in etiology of this *** The data of 130 hepatitis B surface antigen-negative subjects were available for the final analysis,including 60 patients with PDAC confirmed by cytology or histology and 70 sex-and age-matched controls. All the participants were tested for HBv biomarkers in blood [antibody to hepatitis B core antigen(anti-HBc), antibody to hepatitis B surface antigen(anti-HBs) and HBv DNA], and for those with PDAC, biomarkers in resected pancreatic tissues were tested(HBv DNA, HBv pregenomic RNA and covalently closed circular DNA). We performed immunohistochemistry staining of pancreatic tissues for hepatitis B virus X antigen and Ki-67 protein. Non-parametric statistics were used for the *** Anti-HBc was detected in 18/60(30%) patients with PDAC and in 9/70(13%) participants in the control group(P = 0.029). Accordingly, the odds of PDAC in anti-HBc-positive subjects were higher compared to those with no previous HBv infection(odds ratio: 2.905, 95% confidence interval: 1.191-7.084, standard error 0.455). HBv DNA was detected in 8 cases of PDAC and in 6 of them in the pancreatic tumor tissue samples only(all patients were anti-HBc positive). Blood HBv DNA was negative in all subjects of the control group with positive results of the serum anti-HBc test. Among 9 patients with PDAC, 5 revealed signs of replicative competence of the virus(covalently closed circular DNA with or without pregenomic RNA) in the pancreatic tumor tissue samples. We used molecular genetic analyses to noninvasively identify individual Amur tigers and define subpopulations of tigers in the Russian Far *** identified 63 individuals after genotyping 256 feces,7 hair and 11 blood samples collected within southern,central and northern Sikhote-Alin,as well as Southwest *** of nuclear DNA at 9 microsatellite loci demonstrated greater genetic similarity between animals from southern and northern Sikhote-Alin(some 500 km apart)than between animals from Ussuriskii State Nature Reserve and Southwest Primorye(less than 10 km apart at their nearest point),suggesting that a true barrier exists preventing movements of tigers between Southwest Primorye and the southern Sikhote-Alin Mountains.

In this work,NiTi samples with different thicknesses(0.15-1.00 mm)were fabricated by laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)under variable scanning speeds(500-1200 mm s^(-1)).The densification behavior,phase transformation behavior,and mechanical properties of the sample with different thicknesses are *** results indicate a strong size effect in the LPBF-fabricated NiTi *** decrease of the sample thickness results in(i)the increase of porosity,(ii)the decrease of the number of adhered NiTi powder particles at the surface,(iii)the monotonous decrease of the martensitic transformation temperatures(MTTs),and(iv)the decrease of the shape recovery *** influence of sample thickness on the melt-pool behavior,and thus the microstructure and performance of NiTi alloys are *** is suggested that the melt-pool is deeper and narrower in the thin samples than in the thick *** conclude that,apart from the LPBF process conditions,the sample dimensions have also to be considered to fabricate NiTi structures with predictable properties.

Quasi-isotropic laminates have isotropic elastic properties in all in-plane directions. Therefore, this kind of laminate is widely used for structural elements. The simplest stacking sequence of quasi-isotropic laminates is [0/-60/60]s. When the direction of applied axial load to [0/-60/60]S laminate is inclined at a 30-degree angle, we have the other quasi-isotropic laminate [30/-30/90]s under axial load. The failure mechanisms of these two laminates are, however, entirely different from each other because these two laminates have different distribution of the interlaminar stresses. It was confirmed by tensile fatigue tests that the [0/-60/60]s laminate does not show any visible fatigue damage, but the [30/-30/90]s laminate develops edge-delamination during cyclic loading. The analytical results were in good agreement with the experimental results.

Neurobiological risk factors for problematic social media use as a specific form of Internet addiction:A narrative review

Problematic social media use(PSMU)is a behavioral addiction,a specific form of problematic Internet use associated with the uncontrolled use of social *** is typical mostly for modern adolescents and young adults,which are the first generations fully grown up in the era of total digitalization of *** modern biopsychosocial model of the formation of behavioral addictions,postulating the impact of a large number of biological,psychological,and social factors on addictive behavior formation,may be quite applicable to *** this narrative review,we discussed neurobiological risk factors for Internet addiction with a focus on current evidence on the association between PSMU and structural/functional characteristics of the brain and autonomic nervous system,neurochemical correlations,and genetic features.A review of the literature shows that the vast majority of the mentioned neurobiological studies were focused on computer games addiction and generalized Internet addiction(without taking into account the consumed content).Even though a certain number of neuroimaging studies have been conducted for PSMU,there is practically no research on neuropeptide and genetic associations for PSMU to *** fact points to the extremely high relevance of such studies.
