Chemistry a.d Electrochemistry, Russia. a.a.emy of Sciences ha. developed some novel sorbents designed for the filter units of the pa.sive filtra.ion system for ra.ioa.tive discha.ge from the interconta.nment spa.e during hea.y a.cidents with a.complete loss of electricity supply a. nuclea. power pla.ts. These a.e gra.ula.ed sorbents ba.ed on la.ge-pore silica.gel conta.ning na.ometric pa.ticles of a. or a.-Ni compounds (tra.ema.k Fizkhimin). The sorbents a.low to remove va.ious ra.ioa.tive iodine species (inorga.ic ones a.d methyl iodide) from a.stea.-ga. pha.e with a. lea.t 104 deconta.ina.ion fa.tor. The high sorption properties of Fizkhimin sorbent with a. pa.ticles were confirmed during tests a. a.test fa.ility of the TUV Sudwest compa.y (Ka.lsruhe, Germa.y). This pa.sive filtra.ion system is insta.led a. the 1st a.d 2nd units of the Kuda.kula. nuclea. power pla.t (India. a.d it is unique in the world pra.tice.

Ba.ed on funda.enta. resea.ch, we developed the ba.ic scheme of a.deconta.ina.ion setup to remove a.id ga.es (HCl, SO2, NOx) from stea.-a.r flows with simulta.eous loca.iza.ion of ra.ioa.tive a.rosols, including a.rosols with a.pa.ticle size of less tha. 0.1 μm a.d vola.ile ra.ioa.tive iodine compounds. The deconta.ina.ion process is ba.ed on the method of the a.glomera.ion cocrysta.liza.ion of finely dispersed a.d other a.rosols in the ga. pha.e by including the a.rosols in the inner structure of la.ge-pa.ticle non-ra.ioa.tive a.rosols of a.monium sa.ts, for exa.ple, NH4Cl or (NH4)2SO3. For 137Cs, the most ecologica.ly da.gerous long-lived ra.ionuclide, the setup ensures a.deconta.ina.ion fa.tor of 102 to 103 in one deconta.ina.ion sta.e. Beca.se the setup consists of three consecutive sta.es of the sa.e type, the cumula.ive deconta.ina.ion fa.tor ca. rea.h to 106 - 107. To loca.ize ra.ioa.tive iodine a. I2, HI, HOI, HIO3, a.d CH3I from va.or-a.r flows, the setup uses a.unit conta.ning specia. gra.ula.ed sorbents ba.ed on inorga.ic compounds. Developed a. the Institute of Physica. Chemistry, Russia. a.a.emy of Sciences, these sorbents effectively remove va.ious ra.ioa.tive iodine species (inorga.ic species a.d methyl iodide) from stea.-a.r flows, ensuring deconta.ina.ion fa.tors of a. lea.t 104. The proposed technologica. scheme will a.low va.or-ga. flows to be clea.ed of ra.ioa.rosols a.d a.l vola.ile ra.ioa.tive iodine species a. deconta.ina.ion fa.tors of not less tha. 104.

The ba.ic methods of concentra.ion a.d purifica.ion of liquid ra.ioa.tive wa.te on the nuclea. power pla.t a.e distilla.ion a.d ionic excha.ge. During va.oriza.ion of oil wa.te products a.d the fulfilled wa.hing solutions the pa.t of oil pa.ses into a.condensa.e. Clea.ing of such condensa.e on ion-excha.ged filters results to oiling of ion-excha.ged ma.eria.s a.d to decrea.e number of filter cycles. Due to the often regenera.ion of ion-excha.ged filters a.ditiona. volumes of wa.te products a. the fulfilled recla.ming solutions, wa.hing a.d loosening wa.ers a.e formed. The a.tention of scientists wa. involved with methods of clea.ing of wa.er environments from the orga.ic substa.ces, ba.ed on deep oxidizing tra.sforma.ions of hydroca.bons into ca.bonic ga. a.d wa.er. From processes of oxida.ion of hydroca.bons up to CO2 a.d H2O, sold a. modera.e conditions, our a.tention ha. involved photochemica. oxida.ion with the help of UV-ra.ia.ion.

The pa.er reports some technica. solutions, which suggested or used for increa.ing of environmenta. protection during a.cidents a. NPPs. For NNPs with two protective shells a.d pressure relea.e system such a. WWER-1000 a.comprehensive, pa.sive-mode environmenta. protection system of deconta.ina.ion of the ra.ioa.tive stea.-a.r mixture from the conta.nment a.d the interconta.nment a.ea.wa. suggested. This system includes the “wet” sta.e (scrubbers, etc.), the “dry” sta.e (sorption module), a.d a.so a. ejector, which in a.pa.sive mode is ca.a.le of solving the multi-purpose ta.k of deconta.ina.ion of the a.r-stea. mixture. For WWER-440/230 NPPs three protection levels: 1) a.jet-vortex condenser;2) the spra. system;3) a.sorption module were suggested a.d insta.led. For modern designs of new genera.ion NPPs, which do not provide for pressure relea.e systems, a.new pa.sive filtering system together with the pa.sive hea.-remova. system, which ca. be used during severe a.cidents in ca.e a.l power supply units become una.a.la.le, wa. proposed a.d a.ter moderniza.ion wa. insta.led a. the Kuda.Kula. The ga.-pha.e conversion of U3O8, MoO3, SrO, a.d their mecha.ica. mixtures, a.d a.so of ZrO2 into wa.er-soluble compounds in the a.mosphere of (NOx + va.or H2O) or HNO3 (va.or) wa. studied. In the course of ga.-pha.e conversion, U3O8 a.d SrO tra.sform into wa.er-soluble compounds (nitra.es, hydroxonitra.es), wherea. MoO3 a.d ZrO2 undergo no cha.ges. The principa. possibility of sepa.a.ing U from Mo a.d Zr by ga.-pha.e conversion of the oxides in the a.mosphere of (NOx + va.or H2O) or HNO3 (va.or) wa. demonstra.ed.
