The height of total entropy(S)for a magnetic refrigerant material is essentially concerned with the magnetic and structural ***,the participation of such transitions in layered materials is not well ***,the purpose of this work is to investigate the interplay between double layer lattice with their single perovskite counterpart,to achieve optimal magnetocaloric performance.A series of self-doped Pr_(1.4+x)Sr_(1.6-x)Mn_(2)O_(7)(0.0≤x≤0.5)Ruddlesden-Popper(R-P)perovskite have been prepared through the solid-state sintering *** increasing the Pr-stoichiometry,the lattice faults have increased and the double layer lattice dramatically disintegrates into single perovskite *** to the reduction of bilayer R-P phase into single perovskite the spin crossover occurs from weak bilayer(T=304 K)interactions towards the strong three-dimensional(T=308 K)interactions *** series consistently develops thermomagnetic irreversibility in zero-field cooled(ZFC)-field cooled(FC)magnetization,which is indicative of a spin-glass *** glassy nature has been ascribed collectively to the lattice strain produced because of dislocations and to an antiferromagnetic phase segregated at the *** maximum value of temperature average entropy change(TEC)and adiabatic temperature(ΔT)has enhanced nearly by 4 folds from 0.53 J kg^(-1)K^(-1),0.59 K(for x=0.0)up to 1.85 J kg^(-1)K^(-1),10 K(for x=0.5)at 2.5 T,***,the room temperature relative cooling power has improved from 26.94 J/kg up to 77.84 J/kg with an applied field of 2.5 *** findings in this work suggest that the controlled reduction of double layer lattice into single perovskite and/or existence of both phases simultaneously in bilayer R-P manganites may be very effective in obtaining the desirable characteristics of magnetocaloric effects.

Measuring nasolacrimal duct volume using computed tomography images in nasolacrimal duct obstruction patients in Korean

AIM: To investigate nasolacrimal duct(NLD) volume in Korean patients and to examine the correlation between NLD volume and obstruction. METHODS: Of patients who underwent orbital computed tomography from March 2013 to January 2016, patients diagnosed with NLD obstruction were classified into the patient group and patients without obstruction were classified into the control group. The NLD volume was measured using the Image J program, which showed the NLD in axial,coronal, and sagittal images on computed tomography. RESULTS: The average value of men's NLD volume,265.33±90.57 mm3, was significantly larger than women's,211.87±68.61 mm3(P=0.009). In the patient group, the NLD volume of the obstructed eyes, 242.49±82.93 mm3,and the non-obstructed eyes, 225.20±73.20 mm3, were significantly higher than the control group, 217.61±82.04 mm3(P<0.001, P<0.001). CONCLUSION: The NLD volume is larger in men than in women in Korean adults. If there is NLD obstruction in women, the NLD volume is larger and it is judged that inflammatory reaction caused a chronic change in the bone around the NLD and affect the measurement of NLD volume.

BACKGROUND Studies on varicose veins have focused its effects on physical function;however,whether nonsurgical treatments alter muscle oxygenation or physical function remains ***,the differences in such functions between individuals with varicose veins and healthy individuals remain *** To investigate changes in physical function and the quality of life(QOL)following nonsurgical treatment of patients with varicose veins and determine the changes in their muscle oxygenation during *** We enrolled 37 participants(those with varicose veins,n=17;healthy individuals,n=20).We performed the following measurements pre-and post-nonsurgical treatment in the varicose vein patients and healthy individuals:Calf muscle oxygenation during the two-minute step test,open eyes one-leg stance,30 s sit-to-stand test,visual analog scale(VAS)for pain,Pittsburgh sleep quality index,physical activity assessment,and QOL *** Varicose veins patients and healthy individuals differ in most variables(physical function,sleep quality,and QOL).Varicose veins patients showed significant differences between pre-and post-nonsurgical treatment—results in the 30 sit-to-stand test[14.41(2.45)to 16.35(4.11),P=0.018],two-minute step test[162.29(25.98)to 170.65(23.80),P=0.037],VAS for pain[5.35(1.90)to 3.88(1.73),P=0.004],and QOL[39.34(19.98)to 26.69(17.02),P=0.005];however,no significant difference was observed for muscle *** Nonsurgical treatment improved lower extremity function and QOL in varicose veins patients,bringing their condition close to that of healthy *** studies should include patients with severe varicose veins requiring surgery to confirm our findings.

Association of low muscle strength with metabolic dysfunctionassociated fatty liver disease:A nationwide study

BACKGROUND There is limited evidence regarding the association between muscle strength and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD).AIM To investigate the association between muscle strength and MAFLD in the general population in *** This nationwide representative cross-sectional study included 31649 individuals aged≥19 years who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2015 and *** ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)for MAFLD according to sex-specific quartiles of muscle strength,defined by relative handgrip strength,were calculated using multivariable logistic regression ***,multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between muscle strength and probable liver fibrosis in patients with *** Of all the participants,29.3%had *** prevalence of MAFLD was significantly higher in the lower muscle strength quartile groups for all participants,sexes,and age groups(P<0.001).A 1.92-fold(OR=1.92,95%CI:1.70–2.16)and 3.12-fold(OR=3.12,95%CI:2.64–3.69)higher risk of MAFLD was observed in the lowest quartile(Q1)group than in the other groups(Q2–Q4)and the highest quartile(Q4)group,*** ORs of MAFLD were significantly increased in the lower muscle strength quartile groups in a dose-dependent manner(P for trend<0.001).These associations persisted in both *** inverse association between muscle strength and the risk of MAFLD was observed in all subgroups according to age,obesity,and diabetes *** patients with MAFLD,the odds of severe liver fibrosis were higher in Q1(OR=1.83,95%CI:1.25–2.69)than in other groups(Q2–Q4).CONCLUSION Among Korean adults,low muscle strength was associated with an increased risk of MAFLD and liver fibrosis in patients with MAFLD.

This study compares and analyzes stereotactic radiotherapy using tomotherapy and linac-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy in the treatment of intra-cranial tumors,according to some *** this study,linac-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy and tomotherapy treatment were administered to five patients diagnosed with intra-cranial cancer in which the dose of 18–20 Gy was applied on 3–5 separate *** tumor dosing was decided by evaluating the inhomogeneous index （II） and conformity index （CI）.Also,the radiation-sensitive tissue was evaluated using low dose factors V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,and V10,as well as the non-irradiation ratio volume （NIV）.The values of the II for each prescription dose in the linacbased non-coplanar radiotherapy plan and tomotherapy treatment plan were （0.125±0.113） and （0.090±0.180）,respectively,and the values of the CI were （0.899±0.149） and （0.917±0.114）,*** low dose areas,V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,and V10,in radiation-sensitive tissues in the linac-based non-coplanar radiotherapy plan fell into the ranges 0.3%–95.6%,0.1%–87.6%,0.1%–78.8%,38.8%–69.9%,26.6%–65.2%,and 4.2%–39.7%,respectively,and the tomotherapy treatment plan had ranges of 13.6%–100%,3.5%–100%,0.4%–94.9%,0.2%– 82.2%,0.1%–78.5%,and 0.3%–46.3%,*** the NIV for each organ,it is possible to obtain similar values except for the irradiation area of the brain *** percentages of NIV10%,NIV20%,and NIV30%for the brain stem in each patient were 15%–99.8%,33.4%–100%,and 39.8%–100%,respectively,in the fractionated stereotactic treatment plan and 44.2%–96.5%,77.7%–99.8%,and 87.8%–100%,respectively,in the tomotherapy treatment *** order to achieve higher-quality treatment of intra-cranial tumors,treatment plans should be tailored according to the isodose target volume,inhomogeneous index,conformity index,position of the tumor upon fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery,and radiation dosage for radiation-sensitive tissues.

Chronic diarrhea is one of the most frequent gastro-intestinal manifestations in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Protozoa and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are opportunistic pathogens that can easily infect these patients. Among the NTM, Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is the most frequently observed pathogen in HIV-infected patients. However, NTMs other than MAC have not been reported as a gastrointestinal pathogen as yet. We present a case of chronic diarrhea in an AIDS patient in whom Mycobacterium ulcerans and cryptosporidium co-infection is evidenced from colonic tissue.

Fucoidan is a traditional Chinese medicine suggested to possess anti-tumor *** this study the anti-metastatic effects of fucoidan were investigated in vitro in human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cells(huh-7 and SNU-761) under normoxic and hypoxic conditions and in vivo using a distant liver metastasis model involving injection of MH134 cells into spleen via the portal *** ability to protect hepatocytes against bile acid(BA)-induced apoptosis was investigated in primary *** was found to suppress the invasion of HCC cells through up-regulation of p42/44 MAPKdependent NDRG-1/CAP43 and partly,under normoxic conditions,through up-regulation of p42/44MAPK-dependent VMP-1 *** also significantly decreased liver metastasis in *** regards its hepatoprotective effect,fucoidan decreased BA-induced hepatocyte apoptosis as shown by the attenuation of caspase-8,and-7 cleavages and suppression of the mobilization of caspase-8 and Fas associated death domain(FADD) into the death-inducing signaling *** summary,fucoidandisplays inhibitory effects on proliferation of HCC cells and protective effects on *** results suggest fucoidan is a potent suppressor of tumor invasion with hepatoprotective effects.

辣椒(Capsicum annuum)是美洲最古老的驯化作物之一,在全世界被广泛种植。本研究对CM334(墨西哥地方品种)进行了全基因组测序和组装(覆盖度为186.6×),同时还对另外两个栽培种和一个野生种分别进行了重测序和从头(de novo)测序。结果表明辣椒基因组大小约为番茄的4倍,辣椒基因组上存在大量gypsy转座子和花椰菜病毒家族元件的积累。结合转录组综合分析认为,辣椒素合成酶基因表达模式的改变及新功能化是导致辣椒素生物合成的原因,研究还发现辣椒与番茄在乙烯合成及果实成熟调控方面存在明显不同的分子模式。辣椒参考基因组的发布为辣椒营养品质和药用价值的改善提供了重要平台。
