Cycloalkanes and cyclohexanols find diverse applications, including sustainable aviation fuel, fuel additives, and value-added chemicals. These compounds can be produced via complete or selective hydrodeoxygenation（HDO） of lignin-derived phenolic monomers. In this study, a urea-assisted method was employed to control the size of Ru nanoparticles（NPs） and tune the surfaceactive sites on Ru metal supported on CNx. By adjusting the Ru-to-urea molar ratio, both the size of Ru NPs and the metallic-tooxide ratio of Ru were controlled, along with the incorporation of N atoms into the RuO2surface coordination. In the absence of urea, the Ru/CNx（1:0） catalyst, containing 4.8 nm Ru NPs, achieved complete HDO of 4-propyl guaiacol to n-propyl cyclohexane through ring saturation, followed by hydro-demethoxylation of the C–OCH3group, and hydrogenolysis of the –OH group, with a 97.0% yield at an initial H2pressure of 1.5 MPa, 200 °C, and 20 h in water. The final hydrogenolysis step was inhibited over the urea-assisted catalysts. The Ru/CNx（1:8） catalyst, containing 3.1 nm Ru NPs, achieved a maximum selectivity of 67.6% for n-propyl cyclohexanol, along with complete conversion of 4-propyl guaiacol. Similar trends were observed in the product distribution when upgrading reductive catalytic fractionation bio-oil over Ru/CNx（1:0） and Ru/CNx（1:8）.

Herein,we report a highly active K-added Ru/MgO catalyst for hydrogen storage into aromatic benzyltoluenes at low temperatures to advance liquid organic hydrogen carrier *** hydrogenation activity of Ru/K/MgO catalysts exhibits a volcano-shaped dependence on the K content at the maximum with 0.02 wt%.This is in good agreement with the strength and capacity of H_(2) adsorption derived from basicity,despite a gradual decrease in the textural property and the corresponding increase in the Ru particle size with increasing the K *** functional theory calculations show that heterolytic hydrogen adsorption properties(strength and polarization)are facilitated up to a specific density of K on the Ru–MgO interface and excessive K suppresses heterolytic H_(2) adsorption by direct interaction between K and hydrogen,assuring the hydrogenation activity and H_(2) adsorption capability of Ru/K/MgO ***,the Ru/K/MgO catalyst,when K is added in an optimal amount,is highly effective to accelerate hydrogen storage kinetics at low temperatures owing to the enhanced heterolytic H_(2) adsorption.

Current status and challenges in sentinel node navigation surgery for early gastric cancer

Although a number of feasibility studies for sentinel node （SN） concepts in gastric cancer have been conducted since 2000, there remains a debate regarding detailed detection techniques and oncological safety. Two important multicenter phase II clinical trials were performed in Japan that used different methods and reached different conclusions; one confirmed acceptable results with a false-negative rate of 7%, and the other showed an unacceptably high false-negative rate of 46.4%. The Sentinel Node Oriented Tailored Approach （SENORITA） trial is a multicenter randomized controlled phase 1/I trial being performed in Korea. Patient enrollment is now complete and the long-term results are currently awaited. Recently, an image-guided SN mapping technique using infrared ray/fluorescence was introduced. This method might be a promising technology because it allows the clear visualization of SNs. With regard to the primary tumor, the non-exposed endoscopic wall-inversion surgery technique and non-exposure endolaparoscopic full-thickness resection with simple suturing technique have been reported. These methods prevent abdominal infection and tumor seeding and can be good alternatives to conventional laparoscopic gastric wedge resection. For indications, SN navigation surgery can be extended to patients who underwent non-curative endoscopic resection. Although a few studies have been performed on these patients, sentinel concepts may be beneficial to patients as they omit the need for additional gastrectomy. SN navigation surgery can lead to actual organ-preserving surgery and plays a key role in improving the quality of life of patients with early gastric cancer in the future.

In the medical field, there are growing interests in applied research such as in vivo fluorescence monitoring because of excellent body transmission characteristic of the near-infrared light. However, optical noise by excitation light and illumination equipment for medical applications such as interior light, surgical light decrease efficiency of the fluorescent signal when observers such as surgeons confirm fluorescence signals in medical field. To solve these problems in medical field, we have analyzed external noise factors by effect on image realization, quantification of optical noise generation by external factors, and have suggested methods of minimize the optical noise in this paper. In case of fluorescence imaging in the operating room, it has been confirmed that fluorescent excitation light, interior light and surgical light are factors to generate optical noise. To acquire near-infrared fluorescence images and to compare fluorescence contrast under conditions of darkroom, interior light and surgical light, light emitting diodes (LEDs) sources that have peak wavelength at 740, 760 and 780 nm respectively were used as excitation light sources. In addition, short-pass filter which has transmission edge at 775 nm has been applied to minimize the optical noise in each external noise factor. By comparing contrast of each image before and after use of the short-pass filter, we confirmed that optical noise reduced 49%, 56% and 66% in external noise factors respectively.

AIM: To expand the living donor liver transplantation(LT) pool of eligible patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) using new morphological and biological ***: Patients with HCC who underwent living donor LT(LDLT) from March 2005 to May 2013 at the National Cancer Center Korea(NCCK) were enrolled. We performed the 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT)before LDLT. Overall and disease-free survival analysis was done in patients to evaluate the usefulness of new NCCK criteria using PET/CT and total tumor size(10 cm).RESULTS: We enrolled a total of 280 patients who pathologically confirmed to have HCC and performed the PET/CT before transplantation. Among them, 164(58.6%) patients fulfilled the NCCK criteria and 132 patients(47.1%) met the Milan criteria. Five-year overall and disease-free survival rates for patients who fulfilled the NCCK criteria showed 85.2% and 84.0%, respectively, and were significantly higher than those beyond the NCCK criteria(60.2% and 44.4%, respectively; P < 0.001). The correlation analysis between preoperative imaging tests and pathologic reports using Cohen's Kappa demonstrated the better results in the NCCK criteria than those in the Milan criteria(0.850 vs 0.583). The comparison of diseasefree analysis among the NCCK, Milan, and University of California, San Francisco(UCSF) criteria using the receiver operating characteristics curves revealed the similar area under the curve value criteria(NCCK vs Milan, P = 0.484; NCCK vs UCSF, P = 0.189 at 5-years).CONCLUSION: The NCCK criteria using hybrid concept of both morphological and biological parameters showed an excellent agreement between preoperative imaging and pathological results, and favorable survival outcomes. These new criteria might select the optimal patients with HCC waiting LDLT and expand the selection pool.

Background: Even though NIR fluorescence imaging has many advantages in SLN mapping and cancer detection, NIR fluorescence imaging shows a serious drawback that NIR cannot be detected by the naked eye without any detectors. This limitation further disturbs accurate SLN detection and adequate tumor resection resulting in the presence of cancerous cells near the boundaries of surgically removed tissues. Materials and methods: To overcome the drawback of the conventional NIR imaging method, we suggest a novel NIR imaging system which can make the NIR fluorescence image visible to the naked eye as NIR fluorescence image detected by a video camera is processed by a computer and then projected back onto the NIR fluorescence excitation position with a projector using conspicuous color light. Image processing techniques were used for projection onto the exact position of the NIR fluorescence image. Also, we implemented a phantom experiment to evaluate the performance of the developed NIR fluorescence projection system by use of the ICG. Results: The developed NIR fluorescence projection system was applied in normal mouse model to confirm the usefulness of the system in the clinical field. A BALB/c nude mouse was prepared to be applied in normal mouse model and 0.25 mg/ml stock solution of the ICG was injected through a tail vein of the mouse. From the application in normal mouse model, we could confirm that the injected ICG stayed in the liver of the mouse and verify that the projection system projected the ICG fluorescence image at the exact location of the ICG by performing laparotomy of the mouse. Conclusions: From the application in normal mouse model, we could verify that the ICG fluorescence image was precisely projected back on the site where ICG fluorescence generated. It can be demonstrated that the NIR fluorescence projection system can make it possible to visualize the invisible NIR fluorescence image and to realize that SLN mapping and cancer detection in clinic

One of the most recent and controversial strategies to empower graduate programs with a specific focus on excellence in research is to make a "world-class" research university. However, the very term is not by any means an analytic one and therefore is not a very clear term of reference for scholarly discussions. Since no attempt has been made to construct a true global history of higher education, in the use of the term an unabashedly "Eurocentric" discourse prevails. The selected- out tradition are Asian,pre-modern Indian, Muslim and African (Jenne,Goa Timbuku), to list least. We have seen enough such distortions from the discourse on the "modern" education which in fact means the western education.

Amidst the ever-growing interest in high-mass-loading Li battery electrodes,a persistent challenge has been the insufficient continuity of their ion/electron conduction ***,we propose cellulose elementary fibrils(CEFs)as a class of deagglomerated binder for high-mass-loading *** from natural wood,CEF represents the most fundamental unit of cellulose with nanoscale *** preparation of the CEFs involves the modulation of intermolecular hydrogen bonding by the treatment with a proton acceptor and a hydrotropic *** elementary deagglomeration of the cellulose fibers increases surface area and anionic charge density,thus promoting uniform dispersion with carbon conductive additives and suppressing interfacial side reactions at ***,a homogeneous redox reaction is achieved throughout the *** resulting CEF-based cathode(overlithiated layered oxide(OLO)is chosen as a benchmark electrode active material)exhibits a high areal-mass-loading(50 mg cm^(-2),equivalent to an areal capacity of 12.5 mAh cm^(-2))and a high specific energy density(445.4 Wh kg–1)of a cell,which far exceeds those of previously reported OLO *** study highlights the viability of the deagglomerated binder in enabling sustainable high-mass-loading electrodes that are difficult to achieve with conventional synthetic polymer binders.
