Pancreatic schwannoma:Case report and an updated 30-year review of the literature yielding 47 cases

Pancreatic schwannomas are rare neoplasms. Authors briefly describe a 64-year-old female patient with cystic pancreatic schwannoma mimicking other cystic tumors and review the literature. Databases for PubMed were searched for English-language articles from 1980 to 2010 using a list of keywords, as well as references from review articles. Only 41 articles, including 47 cases, have been reported in the English literature. The mean age was 55.7 years （range 20-87 years）, with 45% of patients being male. Mean tumor size was 6.2 cm （range 1-20 cm）. Tumor location was the head （40%）, head and body （6%）, body （21%）, body and tail （15%）, tail （4%）, and uncinate process （13%）. Thirty-four percent of patients exhibited solid tumors and 60% of patients exhibited cystic tumors. Treatment included pancreati- coduodenectomy （32%）, distal pancreatectomy （21%）, enucleation （15%）, unresectable （4%）, refused opera- tion （2%） and the detail of resection was not specified in 26% of patients. No patients died of disease with a mean follow-up of 15.7 mo （range 3-65 too）, although 5 （11%） patients had a malignancy. The tumor size was significantly related to malignant tumor （13.8 ＋ 6.2 cm for malignancy vs 5.5 ＋ 4.4 cm for benign, P = 0.001） and cystic formation （7.9 ~ 5.9 cm for cystic tumor vs 3.9 ＋ 2.4 cm for solid tumor, P = 0.005）. The preoperative diagnosis of pancreatic schwannoma remains difficult. Cystic pancreatic schwannomas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cystic neoplasms and pseudocysts. In our caset intraoperative frozen sec- tion confirmed the diagnosis of a schwannoma. Simple enudeation may be adequate, if this is possible.

江西永平铜矿位于华南怀玉山—北武夷山铜铅锌多金属成矿带内,是赣东北地区除了德兴铜矿外的另一个大型铜矿基地。该矿区存在两种类型的花岗质岩石,一种是花岗岩;另一种是英安斑岩。英安斑岩具有典型斑状结构和石英眼结构,而花岗岩则具有单向固结结构。在化学成分上,两者属于高钾的钙碱性系列岩石,英安斑岩贫硅、富Al、Fe、Mg、Ca,以及具有较大的Na_2O/K_2O(0.02～0.64)等特点;而花岗岩富硅、贫Al、Ca,以及富碱和具有较小的Na_2O/K_2O(0.02～0.03)等特点。两种类型的岩石具有一致的REE配分曲线。它们均富集大离子亲石元素(Ba、Rb、K),亏损高场强元素(Th、Nd、Ta、Ti)以及元素Sr和P,显示了与俯冲作用有关的岩浆作用。在结构和化学成分上,花岗岩则类似于美国Climax斑岩钼(铜)矿成矿斑岩的性质(如具有单向固结结构、较高的分异指数、富Si、贫Al、Ca、富Na_2O+K_2O以及K_2O>Na_2O)。与英安斑岩有关的蚀变作用主要有夕卡岩化、黑云母化、白云母化、绿泥石化和萤石化,而与花岗岩有关的蚀变作用主要是白云母化和萤石化;相应地,与英安斑岩有关的成矿作用主要为铜,而与花岗岩有关的成矿作用则主要为钼。2件辉钼矿样品的Re-Os年龄分别为156.7±2.8Ma和155.7±3.6Ma,表明与花岗岩有关的钼成矿作用发生在156Ma左右。本文认为,永平铜钼矿的成矿地球动力学背景应是由挤压向伸展的转换环境。

Direct numerical simulation(DNS)of turbulent planar jet with a second-order chemical reaction(A+B→R)is performed to investigate the processes of mixing and chemical reactions in spatially developing turbulent free shear *** A is premixed into the jet flow,and reactant B is premixed into the ambient *** is performed at three different Damk¨ohler numbers(Da=0.1,1,and 10).Damk¨ohler number is a ratio of a time scale of a flow to that of chemical reactions,and in this study,the large Da means a fast chemical reaction,and the small Da means a slow chemical *** visualization of velocity field shows that the jet flow is developed by entraining the ambient *** visualization of concentration of reactant A shows that concentration of reactant A for Da=1 and 10 becomes very small in the downstream region because the chemical reaction consumes the reactants and reactant A is diffused with the jet *** comparison of the profiles of chemical reaction rate and concentration of product R,it is found that product R for Da=10 is produced by the chemical reaction at the interface between the jet and the ambient fluids and is diffused into the jet flow,whereas product R for Da=0.1 is produced in the jet flow after reactants A and B are well mixed.

A 380-cm-long sediment core was acquired from the deep water area of Pumoyum Co, southern Tibet. Twenty-five plant residue samples were selected, and organic carbon stable isotopes were obtained using the AMS 14 C chronological method. The 14 C age and carbon reservoir effect were calibrated with surface sedimentation rate measurements using 210 Pb dating. Results showed that the core sediment deposited over 19 cal ka BP. Based on a multi-proxy analysis of TOC and IC contents, grain size and pollen assemblage data, the palaeoclimatic evolution of Pumoyum Co was reconstructed since the last glacial. Pumoyum Co was a shallow lake prior to 16.2 cal ka BP; although the glacier around the lake began to melt due to increasing temperatures, climate was still cold and dry. In the interval of 16.2-11.8 cal ka BP, the sedimentary environment fluctuated drastically and frequently. Two cold-events occurred at 14.2 and 11.8 cal ka BP, and these may correspond to the Older Dryas and the Younger Dryas events, respectively. After 11.8 cal ka BP, Pumoyun Co developed into the deep lake as it is now. The lake water temperature was relatively lower at that time because of influx of cold water from glacial meltwater entering the lake. As a result, the multi-proxy indicators showed no sign of warm conditions. Comparisons between the sedimentary record of Pumoyum Co with that of other lakes of the same age in southern Tibet indicate a warmer climate following the last deglaciation influenced the southeastern Tibetan Plateau. These results imply that the southwest Asian monsoon gradually became stronger since the deglaciation during its expansion to the inner plateau. The glacial-supplied water of the lake responded sensitively to cold-events. The entire southern Tibet region was dominantly influenced climatically by the southwest Asian monsoon during the Holocene.

Background:There have been few studies in the English literature regarding verrucous gastritis(VG).The present study investigated the clinical and endoscopic features of verrucous antral gastritis,especially focusing on Helicobacter pylori infection,nutrition,and gastric ***:We performed a retrospective study of patients who underwent routine endoscopy with indigo carmine chromoendoscopy and a comparative study was conducted between VG-positive and VG-negative *** was subdivided into classical and numerous types based on the number and distribution of verrucous ***,clinical,and endoscopic data including body mass index(BMI),serum albumin and cholesterol,gastric atrophy,reflux oesophagitis,Barrett’s oesophagus,and *** status were *** and multivariable analyses were performed to identify factors associated with ***:We analysed the data of 621 patients undergoing routine endoscopy and found that VG(n=352)was significantly associated with increased BMI(1.12[1.05-1.18],P<0.01),reflux esophagitis(1.96[1.10-3.28],P<0.01),and *** negativity with or without a history of eradication(9.94[6.00-16.47]and 6.12[3.51-10.68],P<0.001,respectively).Numerous-type(n=163)VG was associated with both closed-and open-type gastric atrophy(9.9[4.04-21.37]and 8.10[3.41-19.24],P<0.001,respectively).There were no statistical differences between groups regarding age,sex,total cholesterol,albumin,and bile-colored gastric ***:Verrucous antral gastritis was related to increased BMI,reflux esophagitis,and *** ***-type verrucous lesions were associated with gastric *** indicate that VG may be a physiological phenomenon due to high gastric acidity,mechanical overload,and vulnerability of background mucosa.
