Conceptually,radii are amongst the simplest Poincaré-invariant properties that can be associated with hadrons and light *** values of these quantities are necessary so that one may judge the character of putative solutions to the strong interaction problem within the Standard ***,limiting their ability to serve in this role,recent measurements and new analyses of older data have revealed uncertainties and imprecisions in the radii of the proton,pion,kaon,and *** the context of radius measurement using electron+hadron elastic scattering,the past decade has shown that reliable extraction requires minimisation of bias associated with practitioner-dependent choices of data fitting *** answers to that challenge have been offered;and this perspective describes the statistical Schlessinger point method(SPM),in unifying applications to proton,pion,kaon,and deuteron *** in analytic function theory,independent of assumptions about underlying dynamics,free from practitioner-induced bias,and applicable in the same form to diverse systems and observables,the SPM returns an objective expression of the information contained in any data under *** robust nature and versatility make it suitable for use in many branches of experiment and theory.

Beginning with precise data on the ratio of structure functions in deep inelastic scattering(DIS)from ^3He and ^3H,collected on the domain 0.19≤xB≤0.83,where xBis the Bjorken scaling variable,we employ a robust method for extrapolating such data to arrive at a model-independent result for the xB=1 value of the ratio of neutron and proton structure *** this with information obtained in analyses of DIS from nuclei,corrected for target-structure dependence,we arrive at a prediction for the proton valence-quark ratio:d_(v)/u_(v)|_(xB→1)=0.230(57).Requiring consistency with this result presents a challenge to many descriptions of proton structure.

The characteristics and climatology of funnel clouds in Alaska were examined using operational radiosondes, surface meteorological observations, and reanalysis data. Funnel clouds occurred under weak synoptic forcing between May and September between 11 am and 6 pm Alaska Daylight Time with a maximum occurrence in July. They occurred under Convective Available Potential Energy >500 J·kg-1 and strong low-level wind shear. Characteristic atmospheric profiles during funnel cloud events served to develop a retrieval algorithm based on similarity testing. Out of more than 129,000 soundings between 1971 and 2014, 2724, 442, and 744 profiles were similar to the profiles of observed funnel cloud events in the Interior, Alaska West Coast, and Anchorage regions. While the number of reported funnel clouds has increased since 2000, the frequency of synoptic situations favorable for such events has decreased.

BACKGROUND:Early detection of graft malfunction or postoperative complications is essential to save patients and organs after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT).Predictive tests for graft dysfunction are needed to enable earlier implementation of organ-saving interventions following *** study was undertaken to assess the value of indocyanine green plasma disappearance rates (ICG-PDRs) for predicting postoperative complications,graft dysfunction and patient survival following ***:Eighty-six patients undergoing OLT were included in this single-centre ***-PDR was assessed daily for the first 7 days following *** were graft loss or death within 30 days and postoperative complications,graft loss,or death within 30 ***:Postoperative complications of 31 patients included deaths (12 patients) or graft ***-PDR was significantly different in patients whose endpoints were graft loss or death beginning from day 3 and in those whose endpoints were graft loss,death,or postoperative complications beginning from day 4 after *** day 7 measurements,receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed an ICG-PDR cut-off for predicting death or graft loss of 9.6% per min (a sensitivity of 75.0%,a specificity of 72.6%,positive predictive value 0.35 negative predictive value 0.94).For prediction of graft loss,death or postoperative complications,the ICG-PDR cut-off was 12.3%per min (a sensitivity of 68.9%,a specificity of 66.7%,positive predictive value 0.57,negative predictive value 0.77).CONCLUSIONS:ICG-PDR measurements on postoperative day 7 are predictive of early patient outcomes following *** added value over that of routinely determined laboratory parameters is low.

To evaluate cholangioscopy in addition to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for management of biliary complications after liver transplantation (LT).METHODSTwenty-six LT recipients with duct-to-duct biliary reconstruction who underwent ERCP for suspected biliary complications between April and December 2016 at the university hospital of Muenster were consecutively enrolled in this observational study. After evaluating bile ducts using fluoroscopy, cholangioscopy using a modern digital single-operator cholangioscopy system (SpyGlass DS™) was performed during the same procedure with patients under conscious sedation. All patients received peri-interventional antibiotic prophylaxis and bile was collected during the intervention for microbial analysis and for antibiotic susceptibility ***-three biliary complications were found in a total of 22 patients, whereas four patients showed normal bile ducts. Anastomotic strictures were evident in 14 (53.8%) patients, non-anastomotic strictures in seven (26.9%), biliary cast in three (11.5%), and stones in six (23.1%). A benefit of cholangioscopy was seen in 12 (46.2%) patients. In four of them, cholangioscopy was crucial for selective guidewire placement prior to planned intervention. In six patients, biliary cast and/or stones failed to be diagnosed by ERCP and were only detectable through cholangioscopy. In one case, a bile duct ulcer due to fungal infection was diagnosed by cholangioscopy. In another case, signs of bile duct inflammation caused by acute cholangitis were evident. One patient developed post-interventional cholangitis. No further procedure-related complications occurred. Thirty-seven isolates were found in bile. Sixteen of these were gram-positive (43.2%), 12 (32.4%) were gram-negative bacteria, and Candida species accounted for 24.3% of all isolated microorganisms.
