Colloidal and rheological characterization of SWCnT in biological media

Wereport on the colloidal and rheological characterization of suspensions of commercial single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCnT)and oxidized single walled carbon nanotubes(SWCnT-oxi24h),in water and fetal bovine serum(FBS).The effects of two surfactants,dodecyl-benzene sodium sulfonate(SBDS)and sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)at different concentrations(0.5-2.0%)on the zeta potential and the rheology of the suspensions is also *** suspensions were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM)and Atomic Force Microscopy(AFM).The colloidal stability was determined by measurements of zeta potential in the physiological pH range 6.0nts were implemented at concentrations of 1 and 1.5 mg/ml,and temperatures of 25℃,30℃,and 37℃.The results obtained show that SWCnT suspensions in FBS,with and without addition of surfactants,depict a high tendency to aggregate with the bovine serum albumin(BSA),a processwe could further characterize using Molecular Dynamics(MD)*** suspensions in aqueous media show a negative zeta potential between−60 and−80 mV,whereas in FBS the stability is lower,with values of-20 *** observed no significant changes in the zeta potential with the different *** viscosity values obtained are smaller in water than in FBS,demonstrating the higher stability in water.

BACKGROUnD Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the second most common cause of cancer death worldwide. It is broadly described that cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) is mainly overexpressed in CRC but less is known regarding post-translational modifications of this enzyme that may regulate its activity, intracellular localization and stability. Since metabolic and proteomic profile analysis is essential for cancer prognosis and diagnosis, our hypothesis is that the analysis of correlations between these specific parameters and COX-2 state in tumors of a high number of CRC patients could be useful for the understanding of the basis of this cancer in *** To analyze COX-2 regulation in colorectal cancer and to perform a detailed analysis of their metabolic and proteomic *** Biopsies from both healthy and pathological colorectal tissues were taken under informed consent from patients during standard colonoscopy procedure in the University Hospital of Bellvitge(Barcelona, Spain) and Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital(Campus Can Ruti)(Barcelona, Spain). Western blot analysis was used to determine COX-2 levels. Deglycosylation assays were performed in both cells and tumor samples incubating each sample with peptide n-glycosidase F(PnGase F). Prostaglandin E2(PGE2) levels were determined using a specific ELISA. 1 H high resolution magic angle spinning(HRMAS) analysis was performed using a Bruker AVIII 500 MHz spectrometer and proteomic analysis was performed in a nano-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer(nano LC-MS/MS) using a QExactive HF orbitrap *** Our data show that COX-2 has a differential expression profile in tumor tissue of CRC patients vs the adjacent non-tumor area, which correspond to a glycosylated and less active state of the protein. Aging and Dynamics of Information: The Deeper Side of Biology (An Interdisciplinary Commentary)

The relationship between the evolution of the basal metabolic rate (BMR) and the evolution of mass estimated as body weight in complex organisms such as human beings show the association between dissipated energy and information recovered as material structure. In such a context, it is necessary to highlight that the metabolic rate estimated as the energy dissipated per unit of mass presents the same rate of change as the mechanical speed estimated as distance traveled per unit of time. We describe this as a logical equivalence that has consequences on the geometry of the system. Our study proposes to describe the relationships between BMR, body weight, and the geometry of these systems in the same way that relativistic mechanics describes the relationships between matter, speed, and the geometry of the space in which the variables of a physical system are defined. It is exactly the same mechanical description, but considering five dimensions instead of four. The concept of information density limit is decisive in this theoretical framework since it contributes to explaining the changes in the geometry of these systems, their order-chaos transitions, and their general holographic description.

La3+ substitution-adjusted magnetic and optical properties with enhanced photocatalytic activity and stability of copper zinc nickel ferrites for wastewater treatment applications

Green synthesis of glycolic acid through the electrocatalytic reduction of oxalic acid over black TiO_(2): An experimental and theoretical study

Herein,we present the electrocatalytic four-electron hydrogenation of oxalic acid into glycolic acid using black TiO_(2)as an *** acid is an abundant compound found in several sources of organic *** results showed a high selectivity of black TiO_(2)toward glycolic acid,with the formation of glyoxylic acid being the rate-limiting step (glyoxylic acid is the two-electron intermediate).The highest Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 69.6%±8.3% was achieved at 10.2 mA cm^(-2)in 4 h of electrolysis using an H-type cell operated at room temperature,with 50.2%±3.8% of oxalic acid conversion (degradation kinetic constant k=0.0042±0.0001 min-1),58.8%±7.0%of reaction yield and 1.2±0.18 g L-1of glycolic acid production.A theoretical model of black TiO_(2)coming from anatase TiO_(2)was implemented by introducing Ti3+defects,which gave black TiO_(2)the theoretical capability to easily transform oxalic acid into glycolic acid as experimentally *** reaction mechanism was supported and described in detail by density functional theory calculations,which revealed that surface Ti^(3+)states were the main catalytic *** is the first time that a detailed step-by-step mechanism at the atomic level has been proposed for this electrocatalytic reaction,which represents a valuable contribution to the understanding of this process of high energy/environmental *** is also the first time that black TiO_(2)has been used as an electrocatalyst for this sustainable process.

Traumatic brain injury is a global health crisis,causing significant death and disability *** that follows traumatic brain injury has serious consequences for neuronal survival and cognitive impairments,with astrocytes involved in this *** traumatic brain injury,astrocytes rapidly become reactive,and astrogliosis propagates from the injury core to distant brain *** astroglial proteins are downregulated near the traumatic brain injury core,while pro-inflammatory astroglial genes are *** altered gene expression is considered a pathological remodeling of astrocytes that produces serious consequences for neuronal survival and cognitive *** addition,glial scar formed by reactive astrocytes is initially necessary to limit immune cell infiltration,but in the long term impedes axonal reconnection and functional *** therapeutic strategies for traumatic brain injury are focused on preventing acute ***,cannabinoids,progesterone,beta-blockers,and cerebrolysin demonstrate neuroprotective benefits but most of them have not been studied in the context of *** this review,we discuss the cell signaling pathways activated in reactive astrocytes following traumatic brain injury and we discuss some of the potential new strategies aimed to modulate astroglial responses in traumatic brain injury,especially using cell-targeted strategies with miRnAs or lncRnA,viral vectors,and repurposed drugs.
