Geometric phase-encoded stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid crystals for visualizing real-time remote monitoring:humidity sensing as a proof of concept

Liquid crystals are a vital component of modern photonics,and recent studies have demonstrated the exceptional sensing properties of stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid ***,existing cholesteric liquid crystal-based sensors often rely on the naked eye perceptibility of structural color or the measurement of wavelength changes by spectrometric tools,which limits their practical ***,developing a platform that produces recognizable sensing signals is *** this study,we present a visual sensing platform based on geometric phase encoding of stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid crystal polymers that generates real-time visual patterns,rather than frequency *** demonstrate this platform’s effectiveness,we used a humidity-responsive cholesteric liquid crystal polymer film encoded with a q-plate pattern,which revealed that humidity causes a shape change in the vortex beam reflected from the encoded cholesteric liquid crystal ***,we developed a prototype platform towards remote humidity monitoring benefiting from the high directionality and long-range transmission properties of laser beams carrying orbital angular *** approach provides a novel sensing platform for cholesteric liquid crystals-based sensors that offers promising practical *** ability to generate recognizable sensing signals through visual patterns offers a new level of practicality in the sensing field with stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid *** platform might have significant implications for a broad readership and will be of interest to researchers working in the field of photonics and sensing technology.

Cotton provides the most abundant natural fiber for the textile *** mature cotton fiber largely consists of secondary cell walls with the highest proportion of cellulose and a small amount of hemicellulose and *** dissect the roles of hemicellulosic polysaccharides during fiber development,four IRREGULAR XYLEM 15(IRX15)genes,GhIRX15-1/-2/-3/-4,were functionally characterized in *** genes encode DUF579 domain-containing proteins,which are homologs of AtIRX15 involved in xylan *** four GhIRX15 genes were predominantly expressed during fiber secondary wall thickening,and the encoded proteins were localized to the Golgi *** GhIRX15 gene could restore the xylan deficient phenotype in the Arabidopsis irx15irx15l double *** of GhIRX15s in cotton resulted in shorter mature fibers with a thinner cell wall and reduced cellulose content as compared to the wild ***,GhIRX15-2 and GhIRX15-4 formed homodimers and *** addition,the GhIRX15s showed physical interaction with glycosyltransferases GhGT43C,GhGT47A and GhGT47B,which are responsible for synthesis of the xylan backbone and reducing end ***,the GhIRX15s can form heterocomplexes with enzymes involved in xylan modification and side chain synthesis,such as GhGUX1/2,GhGXM1/2 and *** findings suggest that GhIRX15s participate in fiber xylan biosynthesis and modulate fiber development via forming large multiprotein complexes.

Vegetation productivity on the southern edge of the Inner Mongolian Plateau,which plays a vital role in the ecological environment and in the arable and pasto-ral production in this region,can be characterized by the NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index).However,the observed NDVI data span only the last~40 *** growth of Pinus tabulaeformis *** strongly correlated with the NDVI,making it a valuable proxy for extend-ing the length of observed NDVI *** this study,we reconstructed an NDVI series for 1776–2021 for the Daqing Mountains,based on a tree-ring width *** reconstructed data accounted for 55%of the variance in the observed data,and its statistical characteristics and validation indicate that the reconstruction is *** correlation analysis demonstrated the consistency of climate signals in central Inner Mongolia in both the arable and pastoral *** results of superposed epoch analysis revealed a good temporal consistency between drought and flood events and the reconstructed NDVI sequence in this region.

Comparison of CWsI and T_(s)-T_(a)-VIs in moisture monitoring of dryland crops(sorghum and maize)based on UAV remote sensing

Monitoring agricultural drought using remote sensing data is crucial for precision irrigation in modern *** unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)remote sensing,we explored the applicability of an empirical crop water stress index(CWsI)based on canopy temperature and three-dimensional drought indices(TDDI)constructed from surface temperature(T_(s)),air temperature(T_(a))and five vegetation indices(VIs)for monitoring the moisture status of dryland *** machine learning algorithms(random forest regression(RFR),support vector regression,and partial least squares regression)were used to compare the performance of the drought indices for vegetation moisture content(VMC)estimation in sorghum and *** main results of the study were as follows:(1)Comparative analysis of the drought indices revealed that T_(s)-T_(a)-normalized difference vegetation index(TDDIn)and T_(s)-T_(a)-enhanced vegetation index(TDDIe)were more strongly correlated with VMC compared with the other *** indices exhibited varying sensitivities to VMC under different irrigation regimes;the strongest correlation observed was for the TDDIe index with maize under the fully irrigated treatment(r=-0.93).(2)Regarding spatial and temporal characteristics,the TDDIn,TDDIe and CWsI indices showed minimal differences Over the experimental period,with coefficients of variation were 0.25,0.18 and 0.24,*** three indices were capable of effectively characterizing the moisture distribution in dryland maize and sorghum crops,but the TDDI indices more accurately monitored the spatial distribution of crop moisture after a rainfall or irrigation event.(3)For prediction of the moisture content of single crops,RFR models based on TDDIn and TDDIe estimated VMC most accurately(R^(2)>0.7),and the TDDIn-based model predicted VMC with the highest accuracy when considering multiple-crop samples,with R^(2)and RMsE of 0.62 and 14.26%,***,TDDI proved more effective than the CWsI in e

HEN:a novel hybrid explainable neural network based framework for robust network intrusion detection

With the rapid development of network technology and the automation process for 5G, cyberattacks have become increasingly complex and threatening. In response to these threats, researchers have developed various network intrusion detection systems(NIDs) to monitor network traffic. However, the incessant emergence of new attack techniques and the lack of system interpretability pose challenges to improving the detection performance of NIDs. To address these issues, this paper proposes a hybrid explainable neural network-based framework that improves both the interpretability of our model and the performance in detecting new attacks through the innovative application of the explainable artificial intelligence(XAI)method. We effectively introduce the shapley additive explanations(sHAP) method to explain a light gradient boosting machine(Light GBM) model. Additionally, we propose an autoencoder long-term short-term memory(AE-LsTM) network to reconstruct sHAP values previously generated. Furthermore, we define a threshold based on reconstruction errors observed during the training phase. Any network flow that surpasses the specified threshold is classified as an attack flow. This approach enhances the framework's ability to accurately identify attacks. We achieve an accuracy of 92.65%, a recall of 95.26%, a precision of 92.57%,and an F1-score of 93.90% on the dataset NsL-KDD. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach generates detection performance on par with state-of-the-art methods.

Preparation of PVA/GO/h-BN Janus Film with High Thermal Conductivity and Excellent Flexibility via a Density Deposition self-assembly Method

Janus films with asymmetric physical/chemical properties have attracted con siderable attention due to their promising applications in personal thermal management,electronic skin s,sensors,actuators,***,traditional methods for fabricating Janus films conventionally need the assistance of an interface or auxiliary equipment,which are usually complex and ***,flexible poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/graphene oxide(GO)/h-BN(recorded as PVA/GO/h-BN)Janus films with thermally,optically,and electrically anisotropic properties are fabricated by a simple density deposition self-assem bly method,which just utilizes the density difference between GO and h-BN during water *** results show that the two sides of the acquired Janus films have obvious asymmetric *** the original state of the PVA/GO/h-BN Janus films,the thermal conductivity of the GO side(10.06 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1))is generally lower than that of the h-BN side(10.48W·m^(-1)·K^(-1)).But after GO is reduced,the thermal conductivity of the rGO side reaches 12.17 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1),surpassing that of the h-BN *** addition,the relative reflectance of the h-BN side of Janus film is also significantly higher than that of the rGO side,and the su rface resistance difference between the two sides is about 4 orders of *** prepared PVA/GO/h-BN Janus films show great application potential in human thermal management,light conversion switches,and electronic *** study provides a simple and versatile strategy for fabricating Janus films with multifunctional(such as thermal,optical,and electrical)anisotropies.

Ablative behavior and mechanism of siC_(f) /siBCZr composites prepared by PIP process

siC_(f)/siBCZr composites were prepared by polymer precursor impregnation and pyrolysis process with near stoichiometric ratio siC fiber preform as reinforcement phase and siBCZr multiphase ceramic precursor as impregnating *** results highlighted that the siC_(f)/siBCZr composites exhibited excellent ablative properties after ablative tests at 1200℃/3600 s and 1400℃/3600 s,and the strength retention rates of the composites reached 90%and 85%,*** was mainly due to the liquid sealing effect of the ablative products represented by B2O_(3) and siO_(2)∙B_(2)O_(3),which inhibited the ablative reaction by reducing the diffusion rate of the oxidation medium,and the solid pinning effect of the substances represented by siO_(2),ZrO_(2),and ZrsiO_(4),which could play high viscosity and high strength characteristics to improve anti-erosion *** above-mentioned siC_(f)/siBCZr composites with corrosion resistance,oxidation resistance,and ablative resistance provided a solid material foundation and technical support for the development of reusable spacecraft hot-end components.
