Assessm.nt of m.ss transfer characteristics of pervaporation （PV） treatm.nt of wastewater contam.nated with chlorinated hydrocarbons is of great im.ortance for water treatm.nt plant operators conducting initial evaluation, process optim.zation, and process econom.cs. While a m.m.rane plays a central role in pervaporation processes and separation efficiency, the m.ss transfer in the liquid layer next to the m.m.rane surface is of equal, if not greater im.ortance. It is one of the few process param.ters that can be adjusted in situ to m.nipulate the outcom. of a pervaporation process. In this study, a bench scale pervaporation experim.nt of rem.ving a com.on chlorinated hydrocarbon from.water was carried out and the results of it were com.ared to the ones based on well-known sem.-em.irical correlations. The m.ss transfer coefficients from.the experim.nts, ranging from.0.8× 10^-5-2.5× 10^-5 m.s under the operating conditions, are higher than those predicted by the correlation. The corresponding separation factors under varying flow velocities are determ.ned to be between 310-950.

Post-processing of biochars to enhance plant growth responses:a review and m.ta-analysis

A num.er of processes for post-production treatm.nt of“raw”biochars,including leaching,aeration,grinding or sieving to reduce particle size,and chem.cal or steam.activation,have been suggested as m.ans to enhance biochar effectiveness in agriculture,forestry,and environm.ntal ***,I review studies on post-production processing m.thods and their effects on biochar physio-chem.cal properties and present a m.ta-analysis of plant growth and yield responses to post-processed vs.“raw”*** from.23 studies provide a total of 112 com.arisons of responses to processed *** biochars,and 103 com.arisons allowing assessm.nt of effects relative to biochar particle size;additional 8 published studies involving 32 com.arisons provide data on effects of biochar ***,post-processed biochars resulted in significantly increased average plant growth responses 14%above those observed with unprocessed *** overall effect was driven by plant growth responses to reduced biochar particle size,and heating/aeration *** assessm.nt of biochar effects by particle size indicates a peak at a particle size of 0.5-1.0 *** leachate treatm.nts showed very high heterogeneity am.ng studies and no average growth benefit.I conclude that physiochem.cal post-processing of biochar offers substantial additional agronom.c benefits com.ared to the use of unprocessed *** research on post-production treatm.nts effects will be im.ortant for biochar utilization to m.xim.ze benefits to carbon sequestration and system.productivity in agriculture,forestry,and environm.ntal restoration.

New approaches of m.king single chain Fv antibodies against O6-m.thyl-2’ -deoxyguanosine (O6m.G) have been dem.nstrated by using the phage antibody display system. Using O6m.G as an antigen, 21 positive clones were identified by ELISA from.this library, one of which, designated H3, specifically binds to O6m.G with high affinity. The H3 scFv antibody has an affinity constant (Kaff) of 5.94×1011(m.l/L)-1. H3 scFv has been successfully used to detect O6m.G in DNA hydrolyses from.yeast or E. coli cells treated with a DNA m.thylating agent. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the selection of a specific scFv against DNA adducts. The results dem.nstrate the potential applications of the phage display technology for the detection of DNA lesions caused by m.tagens and carcinogens.

It is crucial to m.intaining the viability of biofabricated hum.n-sized tissues to ensure their successful survival and function after *** is a purine nucleoside that has the function to suppress cellular m.tabolism.and has been previously proposed as a m.thod to prolong cell viability under *** this study,we optim.zed the dose concentration of adenosine for incorporation into bioprinted constructs to preserve long-term.cell viability in *** results showed that m.scle cells(C2C12)containing 6,7,or 8 m. adenosine m.intained high cell viability for 20 days under hypoxic conditions(0.1%O2),whereas cells without adenosine treatm.nt showed 100%cell death after 11 *** 20 days under hypoxic conditions,m.scle cells treated with adenosine proliferated and differentiated when transferred to norm.xic *** these adenosine concentrations,6 m. was picked as the optim.zed adenosine concentration for further investigations due to its m.st effective results on im.roving cell *** bioprinted m.scle constructs containing adenosine(6 m.)m.intained high cell viability for 11 days under hypoxic conditions,while the control constructs without adenosine had no live *** in vivo validation,the bioprinted constructs with adenosine im.lanted under the dorsal subcutaneous space in m.ce,showed the enhanced form.tion of m.scle tissue with m.nim.l central necrosis and apoptosis,when com.ared to the constructs without *** positive in vitro and in vivo results dem.nstrate that the use of adenosine is an effective approach to preventing the challenge of hypoxia-induced necrosis in bioprinted tissues for clinical translation.

Objective To study the expression of bone m.trix protein （Bm.） induced by bovine bone m.rphogenetic proteins （Bm.s） in vitro. m.thods Type 1 collagen, osteopontin （OPN）, osteonectin （ON）, osteocalcin （OC）, and bone sialoprotein （BSP） were detected by im.unohistochem.stry in C2C12 cultured from.day 1 to day 28. Results The signaling of bone m.trix protein expression becam. weaker except for type I collagen, OC and BSP after 5 days. Fourteen days after culture, the positive signaling of type I collagen, OPN, ON, OC, and BSP was gradually declined, and could be detected significantly as com.ared with that of the negative control on day 28. Bm. assay showed that the lkaline phosphatase （ALP） activity was higher in C2C12 culture than in the control during the 14-day culture. Also, total protein and DNA significantly increased during the 14-day culture. High levels of ALP were seen in preosteoblasts and osteoblsts in vivo and in differentiating osteoblasts in vitro. ALP was well recognized as a m.rker reflecting osteoblastic activity. Conclusion Native bovine Bm. induces conversion of m.oblasts into osteoblasts, produces type I collagen, and plays significantly role in osteoinduction and bone m.trix m.neralization of C2C 12 in vitro.
