The role of systemic therapy in borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)remains a deadly disease,even in patients whose cancer is localized and *** resection provides the only option for cure,but long-term survival rates remain *** patients with borderline resectable(BR)disease who undergo upfront resection,many patients are either too unwell for subsequent adjuvant systemic therapy,develop recurrence soon after,or are found to have unresectable disease *** is increasing evidence for a neoadjuvant approach,using more conventional multi-agent chemotherapy regimens,which have demonstrated higher activity in the metastatic setting compared to single *** patients with locally advanced(LA)disease,which is unresectable by current definitions,there is mounting evidence that effective neoadjuvant systemic therapy is able to convert some patients’disease to a resectable state,offering the potential for long-term survival and *** we present a review of key trials focusing on prospective,randomized studies to provide high-level evidence supporting a neoadjuvant approach to both BR and LA ***,many knowledge gaps exist,such as the optimal neoadjuvant multi-agent chemotherapy regimen,the role of radiotherapy,and the safety and efficacy of adding immunotherapy to chemo/radiation *** challenges in determining the optimal approach to patients with BR or LA PDAC include not only overcoming the inherent difficulties in conducting complex,multidisciplinary,multicentre randomized trials in patients with a high-morbidity and mortality disease,but also trying to standardize disease definitions,treatment regimens,and outcome measures.

During ribosome biogenesis,the small subunit(SSU)processome is responsible for 40S *** BMS1/RCL1 complex is a core component of the SSU processome that plays an important role in 18S rRNA processing and *** studies using zebrafish mutants indicate that both Bms1-like(Bms1l)and Rcl1 are essential for digestive organ *** spite of vital functions of this complex,the mutual dependence of these two nucleolar proteins for the stability and function remains *** this study,we identified an RCL1-interacting domain in BMS1,which is conserved in zebrafish and ***,both the protein stability and nucleolar entry of RCL1 depend on its interaction with BMS1,otherwise RCL1 degraded through the ubiquitination-proteasome *** studies revealed that overexpression of RCL1 in BMS1-knockdown cells can partially rescue the defects in 18S rRNA processing and cell proliferation,and hepatocyte-specific overexpression of Rcl1 can resume zebrafish liver development in the bms1l substitution mutant bms1l^(sq163/sq163)but not in the knockout mutant bms1l^(zju1/zju1),which is attributed to the nucleolar entry of Rcl1 in the former *** data demonstrate that BMS1 and RCL1 interaction is essential for not only pre-rRNA processing but also the communication between ribosome biogenesis and cell cycle regulation.

Role of adjuvant chemotherapy on recurrence and survival in patients with resected ampulla of Vater carcinoma

BACKGROUND Owing to rarity of disease and lack of prospective studies, data supporting the role of adjuvant chemotherapy in ampulla of Vater(AoV) carcinoma is *** To evaluate whether adjuvant chemotherapy cases for AoV carcinoma had better disease-free survival(DFS) rates than cases of observation following curative *** We retrospectively analyzed the association between adjuvant chemotherapy and DFS and overall survival(OS) in patients with stage IB-Ⅲ AoV carcinoma who underwent curative surgical resection. Fluorouracil-based adjuvant chemotherapy was administered after surgery at the discretion of the physician. Adjusted multivariate regression models were used to evaluate the association between adjuvant chemotherapy and survival *** Of the total 104 patients who underwent curative surgery, 52 received adjuvant chemotherapy. Multivariate analysis revealed that higher histologic grade [hazard ratio(HR) = 2.24, P = 0.046], advanced tumor stage(HR = 1.85, P = 0.030), and vascular invasion(HR = 2.14, P = 0.010) were associated with shorter DFS. Adjuvant chemotherapy improved DFS compared to the observation group(HR =0.50, P = 0.015) and tended to be associated with a longer OS, although the difference was not statistically significant(HR = 0.58, P = 0.098).CONCLUSION Among patients with resected AoV carcinoma, the adjuvant chemotherapy group was not associated with a significant survival benefit compared to the observation group. However, on multivariate analysis adjusting for prognostic factors, adjuvant chemotherapy following surgery was an independent prognostic factor for DFS in patients with resected AoV carcinoma. Further studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness of adjuvant chemotherapy according to histologic phenotype.

Contributions of biofilm and suspended sludge to nitrogen transformation and nitrous oxide emission in hybrid sequencing batch system

Hybrid system combines the nature of suspended growth and attached growth has been widely applied to wastewater treatment. In this research, the contributions to N transformation and N2O emission by biofilm and suspended sludge in the hybrid sequencing- batch reactor for a simultaneous nitrification, denitrification and phosphorus removal process were investigated. For the hybrid system, nitrification occurred mostly in the suspended sludge, while the biofilm played the major role in denitrification. The interaction of the biofilm and the suspended sludge in the same reactor resulted in a better overall nitrogen removal performance with simultaneous nitrification and denitrification. However, N2O emission was the main end product of nitrogen removal for the hybrid system; while it was N2 for the biofilm. The relative low N2O emissions from the pure biofilm and the pure suspended sludge corresponded to the relatively high nitrate at the end of the aeration period compared with the hybrid system.

Size Effects of the Critical Temperature in Ferroelectric Thin Films

The size effects of the critical behaviors for the systems of interacting spins are discussed extensively *** this paper,the finite-size dependence of the critical temperature and susceptibility of the ferroelectric thinfilm are investigated numerically based on the four-state Potts model with the nearest-neighbor interactions between thedipole *** four orientations of the domains exist in the ferroelectric film and the movement of the domainwalls determines the polarization switching process besides the boundary conditions of the *** critical exponentsare obtained and our investigations show that the boundary conditions play the important roles for the ferroelectricproperties of the thin films and the critical behavior of the thin films strongly depends on the feature of the surface.

The Usefulness of the Artificial Intelligence Data in Analyzing the Skin in the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution

In the World economy forum Global Challenge Insight Report titled “The Future of Jobs-Employment, Skills and Workforce Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIR) in 2016”, a new industrial revolution was predicted to occur in the near future. This is followed by the opinion that it would be mandatory to prepare for the FIR because it will definitely change people’s way of working, consuming and thinking. There is a controversy as to the potential of AI in health care. To date, however, remarkable achievements have been made in the field of medicine, particularly entailing dermatology. Therefore, this study explored the usefulness of the AI data in analyzing the skin in the era of the FIR. The current study finally included a total of 300 subjects, for whom a self-reporting questionnaire survey was performed between June 09 and July 18, 2020. The current study proposed the following hypothesis: The AI data might be useful in analyzing the skin in the era of the FIR. This hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the current study suggests that the AI data might be useful in analyzing the skin in the era of the FIR. But this deserves further study.

TagCombine： Recommending Tags to Contents in Software Information Sites

Nowadays, software engineers use a variety of online media to search and become informed of new and interesting technologies, and to learn from and help one another. We refer to these kinds of online media which help software engineers improve their performance in software development, maintenance, and test processes as software information sites. In this paper, we propose TagCombine, an automatic tag recommendation method which analyzes objects in software information sites. TagCombine has three different components： 1） multi-label ranking component which considers tag recommendation as a multi-label learning problem; 2） similarity-based ranking component which recommends tags from similar objects; 3） tag-term based ranking component which considers the relationship between different terms and tags, and recommends tags after analyzing the terms in the objects. We evaluate TagCombine on four software information sites, Ask Different, Ask Ubuntu, Feecode, and Stack Overflow. On averaging across the four projects, TagCombine achieves recall@5 and recallS10 to 0.619 8 and 0.762 5 respectively, which improves TagRec proposed by Al-Kofahi et al. by 14.56% and 10.55% respectively, and the tag recommendation method proposed by Zangerle et al. by 12.08% and 8.16% respectively.

Electrical conductivity(EC)of soil-water extracts is commonly used to assess soil ***,its conversion to the EC of saturated soil paste extracts(ECe),the standard measure of soil salinity,is currently required for practical *** many regression models can be used to obtain ECe from the EC of soil-water extracts,the application of a site-specific model to different sites is not straightforward due to confounding soil factors such as soil *** study was conducted to develop a universal regression model to estimate a conversion factor(CF)for predicting EC_(e) from EC of soil-water extracts at a 1:5 ratio(EC_(1:5)),by employing a site-specific soil texture(i.e.,sand content).A regression model,CF=8.9105e^(0.0106sand)/1.2984(r^(2)=0.97,Ploped based on the results of coastal saline soil surveys(n=173)and laboratory experiments using artificial saline soils with different textures(n=6,sand content=10%-65%)and salinity levels(n=7,salinity=1-24 dS m^(-1)).Model performance was validated using an independent dataset and demonstrated that EC_(e) prediction using the developed model is more suitable for highly saline soils than for low saline *** feasibility of the regression model should be tested at other *** soil factors affecting EC conversion factor also need to be explored to revise and improve the model through further studies.
