Antitubercular activity of the semi-polar extractives of Uvaria rufa

Objective:To investigate the inhibitory activity of the chloroform extract,petroleum ether and chloroform sub-extracts,lead-acetate treated chloroform extract,fractions and secondary metabolites of Uvaria rufa(***) against Mycobacterium tuberculosis(***) H_(37)Rv. Methods:The antituberculosis susceptibility assay was earried out using the colorimetric Microplate Alamar blue assay(MABA).In addition,the cytotoxicity of the most active fraction was evaluated using the VERO cell toxicity ***:The in vitro inhibitory activity against *** H_(37)Rv increased as purification progressed to fractionation(MIC up to 23μg/mL). The chloroform extract and its sub-extracts showed moderate toxicity while the most active fraction from chloroform sub-extract exhibited no cytotoxicity against VERO ***, the lead acetate-treated crude chloroform extract and its fractions showed complete inhibitions (100%) with MIC values up to 8μg/*** screening of the most active fraction showed,in general,the presence of terpenoids,steroids and phenolic *** of the antimycobacterial activity of known secondary metabolites isolated showed no promising inhibitory activity against the test ***:The present results demonstrate the potential of *** as a phytomedicinal source of compounds that may exhibit promising antituberculosis *** addition,elimination of polar pigments revealed enhanced inhibition against *** H_(37)*** several compounds known for this plant did not show antimycobacterial activity,the obtained results are considered sufficient reason for further study to isolate the metabolites from *** responsible for the antitubercular activity.

Climate refugia along Lake Superior’s shores:disjunct arctic-alpine plants rely on cool shoreline temperatures but are restricted to highly exposed habitat under climate warming

Climate refugia can serve as a remnant habitat or stepping stones for species dispersal under climate *** largest freshwater lake by surface area,Lake Superior,USA and Canada,serves as a model system for understanding cooling-mediated local refugia,as its cool water temperatures and wave action have maintained shoreline habitats suitable for southern disjunct populations of arctic-alpine plants since ***,we seek to explain spatial patterns and environmental drivers of arctic-alpine plant refugia along Lake Superior’s shores,and assess future risk to refugia under moderate(+3.5℃)and warmest(+5.7℃)climate warming ***,we examined how the interactive effects of summer surface water temperatures and wind affected onshore temperatures,resulting in areas of cooler ***,we developed an ecological niche model for the presence of disjunct arctic-alpine refugia(pooling 1253 occurrences from 58 species)along the lake’s ***,we fit species distribution models for 20 of the most common arctic-alpine disjunct species and predicted presence to identify refugia ***,we used the two climate warming scenarios to predict changes in the presence of refugia and disjunct *** type,elevation above water,inland distance,July land surface temperature from MODIS/Terra satellite and near-shore depth of water were the best predictors of disjunct ***,we predicted 2236 km of the shoreline(51%)as disjunct refugia habitat for at least one species under current conditions,but this was reduced to 20% and 7% with moderate(894 km)and warmest(313 km)climate change projections.

HI in High gas-phase Metallicity Dwarf galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9

We present resolved giant Metrewave Radio Telescope H I observations of the high gas-phase metallicity dwarf galaxy WISEA J230615.06+143927.9(z = 0.005)(hereafter J2306) and investigate whether it could be a Tidal Dwarf galaxy(TDg) candidate. TDgs are observed to have higher metallicities than normal dwarfs. J2306 has an unusual combination of a blue g-r color of 0.23 mag, irregular optical morphology and high-metallicity(12 +log(O/H) = 8.68 ± 0.14), making it an interesting galaxy to study in more detail. We find J2306 to be an H I rich galaxy with a large extended, unperturbed rotating H I disk. Using our H I data we estimated its dynamical mass and found the galaxy to be dark matter(DM) dominated within its H I radius. The quantity of DM, inferred from its dynamical mass, appears to rule out J2306 as an evolved TDg. A wide area environment search reveals J2306 to be isolated from any larger galaxies which could have been the source of its high gas metallicity. Additionally, the H I morphology and kinematics of the galaxy show no indication of a recent merger to explain the *** detailed optical spectroscopic observations of J2306 might provide an answer to how a seemingly ordinary irregular dwarf galaxy achieved such a high level of metal enrichment.

Implementation of Fuzzy Logic Control into an Equivalent Minimization Strategy for Adaptive Energy Management of A Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle

As government agencies continue to tighten emissions regulations due to the continued increase in greenhouse gas production, automotive industries are seeking to produce increasingly efficient vehicle technology. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have been introduced to mitigate problems while improving fuel economy. HEVs have led to the demand of creating more advanced controls software to consider multiple components for propulsive power in a vehicle. A large section in the software development process is the implementation of an optimal energy management strategy meant to improve the overall fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Optimal strategies can be implemented when driving conditions are known a prior. The Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy (ECMS) is an optimal control strategy that uses an equivalence factor to equate electrical to mechanical power when performing torque split determination between the internal combustion engine and electric motor for propulsive and regenerative torque. This equivalence factor is determined from offline vehicle simulations using a sensitivity analysis to provide optimal fuel economy results while maintaining predetermined high voltage battery state of charge (SOC) constraints. When the control hierarchy is modified or different driving styles are applied, the analysis must be redone to update the equivalence factor. The goal of this work is to implement a fuzzy logic controller that dynamically updates the equivalence factor to improve fuel economy, maintain a strict charge sustaining window of operation for the high voltage battery, and reduce computational time required during algorithm development. The adaptive algorithm is validated against global optimum fuel economy and charge sustaining results from a sensitivity analysis performed for multiple drive cycles. Results show a maximum fuel economy improvement of 9.82% when using a mild driving style and a 95% success rate when maintaining an ending SOC within 5% of th

Advances in mass spectrometry(MS)have enabled high-throughput analysis of proteomes in biological *** state-of-the-art MS data analysis relies on database search algorithms to quantify proteins by identifying peptide–spectrum matches(PSMs),which convert mass spectra to peptide *** database search algorithms use distinct search strategies and thus may identify unique ***,no existing approaches can aggregate all user-specified database search algorithms with a guaranteed increase in the number of identified peptides and a control on the false discovery rate(FDR).To fill in this gap,we proposed a statistical framework,Aggregation of Peptide Identification Results(APIR),that is universally compatible with all database search ***,under an FDR threshold,APIR is guaranteed to identify at least as many,if not more,peptides as individual database search algorithms *** of APIR on a complex proteomics standard dataset showed that APIR outpowers individual database search algorithms and empirically controls the *** data studies showed that APIR can identify disease-related proteins and post-translational modifications missed by some individual database search *** APIR framework is easily extendable to aggregating discoveries made by multiple algorithms in other high-throughput biomedical data analysis,e.g.,differential gene expression analysis on RNA sequencing *** APIR R package is available at https://***/yiling0210/APIR.
