Genetic Dissection of Grain Size Traits Through Genome-Wide Association Study Based on Genic Markers in Rice

Grain size plays a significant role in rice,starting from affecting yield to consumer preference,which is the driving force for deep investigation and improvement of grain size *** inheritance makes these traits complex to breed on account of several alleles contributing to the complete trait *** employed genome-wide association study in an association panel of 88 rice genotypes using 142 new candidate gene based SSR(cgSSR)markers,derived from yield-related candidate genes,with the efficient mixed-model association coupled mixed linear model for dissecting complete genetic control of grain size traits.A total of 10 significant associations were identified for four grain size-related characters(grain weight,grain length,grain width,and length-width ratio).Among the identified associations,seven marker trait associations explain more than 10%of the phenotypic variation,indicating major putative QTLs for respective *** allelic variations at genes OsBC1L4,SHO1 and OsD2 showed association between 1000-grain weight and grain width,1000-grain weight and grain length,and grain width and length-width ratio,*** cgSSR markers,associated with corresponding traits,can be utilized for direct allelic selection,while other significantly associated cgSSRs may be utilized for allelic accumulation in the breeding programs or grain size *** new cgSSR markers associated with grain size related characters have a significant impact on practical plant breeding to increase the number of causative alleles for these traits through marker aided rice breeding programs.

Background:Rice is a major cereal crop and staple food of eastern India,and most farmers depend solely on rice for their *** farming provides both tangible and non-tangible benefits to ecosystems which need to be maintained and *** benefits are provided through ecosystem services(ES)that include both marketable and ***:In this study,the rice farms in eastern India were valued by quantifying the economic value of the services under conventional method of rice cultivation and the gap of ecosystem services value and farm income per unit area were assessed.A stratified random sampling technique was used in this study for selection of agro-climatic zones,districts,blocks,gram panchayat,and study units(households).Soil sampling was also performed for assessing the regulating services(biocontrol of pests,carbon flow,soil erosion,nitrogen fixation),provisioning services(food and by-products),and supporting services(soil fertility,hydrological flow,nutrient cycling,and soil formation).Results:The results indicated that the total economic value of ecosystem services ranged from US$1238 to 1688 ha−1 year−*** marketed(primary production)and non-marketed ecosystem services values ranged from 66–89 to 11–34%of the total,*** of some of the ecosystem services such as cultural services,biodiversity,and gas regulation,which may play a significant role in total ecosystem services,has not been made due to non-availability of data and appropriate methodology for rice *** values of parameters can explain the variability in ecosystem services among the agro-climatic zones in eastern *** of locations based on variability of ecosystem services helps in identifying intervention points for sustaining and improving ecosystem services,while permitting sustainable agro-ecological *** highest total economic gap between ES value and farm income was found in the north central plateau zone(US$

Association of hypoglycaemia in screening oral glucose tolerance test in pregnancy with low birth weight fetus

BACKGROUND Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM) is a common metabolic derangement in pregnant women. In the women identified to be at high risk of GDM, a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) at 24-28 wk gestation is the recommended screening test in the United Kingdom as per National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE). Hypoglycaemia following the glucose load is often encountered and the implication of this finding for the pregnancy, fetus and clinical care is *** To determine the prevalence of hypoglycaemia at any time during the screening OGTT and explore its association with birth *** All deliveries between 2009 and 2013 at the local maternity unit of the University hospital were reviewed. Of the total number of 24,154 women without preexisting diabetes, those who had an OGTT for GDM screening based on NICE recommended risk stratification, who had a singleton delivery and had complete clinical and demographic data for analysis, were included for this study(n =3537). Blood samples for fasting plasma glucose(FPG), 2-hour plasma glucose(2-h PG) and HbA1 c had been obtained. Birth weight was categorised as low(≤ 2500 g), normal or Macrosomia(≥ 4500 g) and blood glucose ≤ 3.5 mmol/L was used to define hypoglycaemia. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the association of various independent factors with dichotomized variables; the differences between frequencies/proportions by χ~2 test and comparison between group means was by one-way *** Amongst the study cohort(3537 deliveries), 96(2.7%) women had babies with LBW(< 2500 g). Women who delivered a LBW baby had significantly lower FPG(4.3 ± 0.6 mmol/L, P = 0.001). The proportion of women who had a 2-h PG ≤ 3.5 mmol/L in the LBW cohort was significantly higher compared to the cohorts with normal and macrosomic babies(8.3% vs 2.8% vs 4.2%; P = 0.007). Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy(RARP)is the current standard of care with long term cure in organ-confined *** introduction of nerve-sparing(NS)to standard RARP has shown positive results in terms of functional outcomes in addition to the oncological *** article reviews the current perspectives of NS-RARP in terms of applied anatomy of the prostatic fascial planes,the neurovascular bundle(NVB),various NS techniques and postoperative functional outcomes.A non-systematic review was done using PubMed,Embase and Medline databases to retrieve and analyse articles in English,with following keywords“prostate cancer”,“robotic radical prostatectomy”,“nerve-sparing”.The Delphi method was used with an expert panel of robotic surgeons in urology to analyse the potency outcomes of various published comparative and non-comparative *** literature has shown that NS-RARP involves various techniques and approaches while there is a lack of randomized studies to suggest the superiority of one over the *** such as preoperative risk assessments,baseline potency,surgical anatomy of individual patients and surgeons’expertise play a major role in the outcomes.A tailored approach for each patient is required for applying the NS approach during RARP.

Discovery method for distributed denial-of-service attack behavior in SDNs using a feature-pattern graph model

The security threats to software-defined networks(SDNs)have become a significant problem,generally because of the open framework of *** all the threats,distributed denial-of-service(DDoS)attacks can have a devastating impact on the *** propose a method to discover DDoS attack behaviors in SDNs using a feature-pattern graph *** feature-pattern graph model presented employs network patterns as nodes and similarity as weighted links;it can demonstrate not only the traffc header information but also the relationships among all the network *** similarity between nodes is modeled by metric learning and the Mahalanobis *** proposed method can discover DDoS attacks using a graph-based neighborhood classification method;it is capable of automatically finding unknown attacks and is scalable by inserting new nodes to the graph model via local or global *** on two datasets prove the feasibility of the proposed method for attack behavior discovery and graph update tasks,and demonstrate that the graph-based method to discover DDoS attack behaviors substantially outperforms the methods compared herein.

Modification of structural and dielectric properties of polycrystalline Gd-doped BFO–PZO

(1-y)(BiFe_(1-x)GdxO_(3))–y(PbZrO3)composites(y=0:5),having four different Gd concentrations(x=0:05,0.1,0.15,and 0.2),were synthesized and their structural,dielectric,and ferroelectric properties have been studied using different characterization *** addition,to investigate the effect of ion implantation on the microstructure and dielectric properties,these composites were exposed to 2 MeV He+-*** of the structure,surface morphology and electrical properties of the samples before and after ion exposure were demonstrated using powder X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)technique,and LCR *** compositional analysis was carried out using energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry(EDS).XRD results demonstrated a decrease in the intensity profile of the dominant peak by a factor of 6 showing a degradation of the ***–Hall(WH)plots reveal reduction in the grain size after irradiation along with an increase in strain and dislocation density.A decrease in the dielectric constant and loss has been recorded after ion beam exposure with reduction in ac conductivity *** contribution of grain and grain boundary effect in conduction mechanism has been addressed using Nyquist *** the samples demonstrate a lossy ferroelectric loop which shows a clear modification upon *** role of structural defects modifying the physical properties of the composite materials is discussed in this work.

Annona muricata fruit extract protects against diethylnitrosamine-induced hepatocellular cancer in rats

Objective: To evaluate the anticancer potentials of Annona muricata fruit by in vitro and in vivo methods. Methods: The ethanolic extract of Annona muricata fruit was prepared by Soxhlet extraction method and further fractionated with petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and chloroform. The fractions were tested for cytotoxicity, apoptosis, scratch wound assay, and cell cycle analysis. IC50, apoptotic index and percentage cell migration were determined using HepG2 cells. For the in vivo studies, hepatocellular carcinoma was induced by administering 0.01% diethylnitrosamine(DEN) in drinking water in Wistar rats. In pre-treatment, rats were co-administered 200 mg/kg of fruit extract with DEN for 14 weeks. In post-treatment, the extract was co-administered after 8-weeks of DEN-induction for 14 weeks. Liver function test, haematological test, oxidative stress markers, relative liver weight, number of cancer nodules and histopathological parameters were ***: Annona muricata fruit extract =significantly lowered cell proliferation counts. The chloroform-fraction possessed higher activity (IC50=(53.7±4.3) μg/mL)The chloroform fraction inhibited cell migration, which was significant compared to curcumin. Further investigations regarding the mode of anticancer activity revealed that the chloroform fraction induced apoptosis. The cell cycle analysis indicated that cells were being arrested at G0/G1. In the in vivo studies, the DEN-control group showed a significant decrease in body weights with increased mortality rate, hepatic nodules, and impairment of liver function compared to normal rats. The rats pre-treated and post-treated with the extract showed positive results with significant improvement in the parameters that were adversely affected by DEN. Beaconless Position-based Routing with Guaranteed Delivery for Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks

Existing position-based routing algorithms, where packets are forwarded in the geographic direction of the destination, normally require that the forwarding node should know the positions of all neighbors in its transmission range. This information on direct neighbors is gained by observing beacon messages that each node sends out periodically. Several beaconless greedy routing schemes have been proposed recently. However, none of the existing beaconless schemes guarantee the delivery of packets. Moreover, they incur communication overhead by sending excessive control messages or by broadcasting data packets. In this paper, we describe how existing localized position based routing schemes that guarantee delivery can be made beaconless, while preserving the same routes. In our guaranteed delivery beaconless routing scheme, the next hop is selected through the use of control RTS/CTS messages and biased timeouts. In greedy mode, the neighbor closest to destination responds first. In recovery mode, nodes closer to the source will select shorter timeouts, so that other neighbors, overhearing CTS packets, can eliminate their own CTS packets if they realize that their link to the source is not part of Gabriel graph. Nodes also cancel their packets after receiving data message sent by source to the selected neighbor. We analyze the behavior of our scheme on our simulation environment assuming ideal MAC, following GOAFR+ and GFG routing schemes. Our results demonstrate low communication overhead in addition to guaranteed delivery.
