It has long been recognized that plant invasions may alter carbon （C） and nitrogen （n） cycles, but the direction and magnitude of such alterations have been rarely quantified. In this study, we quantified the effects caused by the invasion of a noxious exotic plant, Kalanchoe daigrernontiana （Crassulaceae）, on C and n mineralization and enzymatic and microbial activities in the soil of a semiarid locality in Venezuela. We compared soil parameters associated with these processes （C and n mineralization time and the cumulative values, fluorescein diacetate hydrolytic activity, and activities of dehydrogenase, β-glucosidase, glucosaminidase, and urease） between invaded and adjacent non-invaded sites. In addition, correlations among these parameters and the soil physical-chemical properties were also examined to determine if a positive feedback exists between nutrient availability and K. daigremontiana invasion. Overall, our results showed that C mineralization and transformation of organic compounds to nH4^＋ were favored at sites colonized by K. daigrernontiana. With this species, we found the highest cumulative amounts of nH4^＋-n and C and the lowest mineralization time. These results could be explained by higher activities of urease and glueosaminidase in soils under the influence of K. daigremontiana. In addition, higher amounts of organic matter and moisture content in invaded soils might favor C and n mineralization. In conclusion, invasion of neotropical semiarid zones by K. daigrernontiana may influence the chemical and biological properties of the soils covered by this species, increasing nutrient bioavailability, which, in time, can facilitate the invasion process.

Spermatozoa contain a repertoire of RnAs considered to be potential functional fertility *** this study,the gene expression of human sperm subpopulations with high(F1)and low(F2)motility from healthy normozoospermic(n)and asthenozoospermic(A)individuals was evaluated using RnA microarray followed by functional genomic analysis of differentially expressed *** from A-F1 versus n-F1,A-F2 versus n-F2,n-F1 versus n-F2,and A-F1 versus A-F2 comparisons showed a considerably larger set of downregulated genes in tests versus *** ontology(GO)analysis of A-F1 versus n-F1 identified 507 overrepresented biological processes(BPs),several of which are associated with sperm *** addition,gene set enrichment analysis of the same contrast showed 110 BPs,36 cellular comp on ents,and 31 molecular functions,several of which are involved in sperm motility.A leadi ng・edge analysis of selected GO terms resulted in several down regulated genes encoding to dyn eins and kin esins,both related to sperm ***,the predicted activation state of asthenozoospermia was increased,while fertility,cell movement of sperm,and gametogenesis were ***,several downregulated genes characteristic of the canonical pathway protein ubiquitination were involved in asthenozoospermia ***,GO analysis of A-F2 versus n-F2 did not identify overrepresented BPs,although the gene set enrichment analysis detected six enriched BPs,one cellular component,and two molecular ***,the results show differences in gene transcription between sperm subpopulations from asthenozoospermic and normozoospermic semen samples and allowed the identification of gene sets relevant to sperm physiology and reproduction.

The structure [MnmTPP][Me2DCnQI] （TPP = tetraphenylporphinato; Me2DCnQI = 2,5-dimethyl-n,n＇-dicyanoquinonediimine） has been determined from X-ray powder diffraction data. The nonsolvated structure is composed of linear （I-D） chains of alternating [MnmTPP]＋ and ta-[MezDCnQI]＇- with intrachain Mn...Mn separations of 12.83 A, and a Mn-nDcnQI distance of 2.18A. The dihedral angle between the mean Mn（n4）xpp and [MezDCnQI]＇-planes, and the Mn-（n-C）ocnQ1 angle are 84.18° and 143.6°, respectively. [MnInTpP][MezDCnQI] has a Tc of 4.3 K from the 10 Hz x（T） data, 2-K coercivity of 5,600 Oe, and 6,300 emuOe/mol remnant magnetization that are reduced from that observed for related materials, and their in- clusion extends the magnetostructural correlation between the intrachain coupling and both the dihedral angle between the mean Mn（n4）xPp and [TCnE]＇-（TCnE --- tetracyanoethylene） planes and Mn-（n-C）Tcr angles. This is in accord with the in- trachain coupling arising from the overlap of the Mnm dz2-1ike singly occupied molecular orbital （SOMO） and the z component of the [TCnE]- π＊（π2＊） SOMO, which increases with decreasing dihedral angle between the mean Mn（n4）xep and [TCnE]＇- planes and Mn-（n-C）TcnE angle.

Objective To investigate the potential effects of angiogenic process by secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2)inhibitor-HyPE(linking n-derivatized phosphatidyl-ethanolamine to hyaluronic acid)on human bone marrow endothelial cell line(HBME-1). Methods In order to examine the suppressing effects of HyPE on HBME-1 proliferation, migration, and capillary-like tube formation, HBME-1 were activated by angiogenic factor, specifically by basic fibroblast growth factor(b-FGF), vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),and oncostatin M(OSM)(at a final concentration of 25, 20, and 2.5 ng/mL, respectively), then HBME-1 proliferation, migration, and tube forma-tion were studied in the absence or presence of HyPE. HBME-1 tube formation was specially analyzed in fibrin gel. Results HyPE effectively inhibited HBME-1 proliferation and migration as a dose-dependent manner, whatever HBME-1 were grown in the control culture medium or stimulated with b-FGF, VEGF, or OSM. In fibrin, the formations of HBME-1 derived tube-like structures were enhanced by all angiogenic factors, but these were strongly suppressed by HyPE. Conclusions The results support the involvement of sPLA2 in angiogenesis. It is proposed that sPLA2 inhibitor introduces a novel approach in the control of cancer development.

The L1014F mutation in the voltage-sodium channel gene has been associated with resistance to DDT and pyrethroids in various arthropod species including mosquitoes. We determined the frequency of the L1014F kdr mutation in 16 field populations of Culex quinquefasciatus from northeastern Mexico collected between 2008 and 2013. The L1014F was present in all populations analyzed with the lowest frequency （3.33%） corresponding to the population from Monclova collected in 2012, and the highest frequency （63.63%） from the Monterrey population collected in 2012. The presence of a kdr mutation in populations of Cx. quinquefasciatus from northeastern Mexico provides evidence ofpyrethroid resistance. This requires a special attention, considering that pyrethroid-based insecticides are commonly used in vector-control campaigns, especially against Aedes aegypti （L.）.

The use of Recurrence plots have been extensively used in various fields. In this work, Recurrence Plots (RPs) investigates the changes in the non-linear behaviour of urban air pollution using large datasets of raw data (hourly). This analysis has not been used before to extract information from large datasets for this type non-linear problem. Two different approaches have been used to tackle this problem. The first approach is to show results according to monitoring network. The second approach is to show the results by particle type. This analysis shows the feasibility of using Recurrence Analysis for pollution monitoring and control.
