The liver is a unique solid organ with a regenerative capacity that is an important factor in the outcome of partial hepatectomy(PHx)performed to treat life-threating liver diseases(1-3).Multiple intrahepatic and extrahepatic signaling pathways synergistically regulate liver regeneration to restore typical liver functionality and thereby promote maximal life expectancy(2,4).Among the extrahepatic factors,gut metabolites are pivotal signaling molecules that affect the regulation of liver regeneration(5,6).Interestingly,dysbiosis of the gut microbiota due to disease or treatment strategies can influence liver regeneration negatively and delay recovery(7-9).In this empirical study,Yin et al.

Nutrient recovery from source-separated human urine has attracted interest as it is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus that can be utilized as ***,urine also contains pharmaceuticals,steroid hormones,*** their removal is crucial as they have detrimental effects on the environment and human *** current study focuses on investigating the degradation of pharmaceuticals using a double-chamber microbial fuel cell(MFC).Urine was spiked with four pharmaceuticals(trimethoprim,lamivudine,levofloxacin,and estrone)at a concentration of 2 mg/*** MFC was operated for 7 months in batch mode with this spiked urine as *** degradation efficiency of the MFC was studied,for which a selective liquid chromatography-tandem mass-spectrometric method was developed for the quantitation of compounds used in the spiking experiments and was validated with a lower limit of quantification of 0.39 ng/*** maximum removal rate achieved was 96%±2%.The degradation mechanism involved processes like sorption and anoxic *** voltage curve obtained showed that the presence of pharmaceuticals had an initial negative impact on power generation along with increased organic content;however,after the reactor acclimatization,increased power output was achieved with maximum organics removal at 30 h of retention *** work opens a new perspective for the anoxic biodegradation of pharmaceuticals and can be useful in future bioremediation studies.

All rice plant developmental stages are severely affected by soil salinity. Salinity-induced ionic and osmotic stresses affect stomata closure and gaseous exchange, and reduce transpiration and the rate of carbon assimilation, and hence decrease plant yield. Understanding the response of rice plants toward salinity stress at the genetic level and developing salt-tolerant varieties are the vital mandates for its effective management. This review described the present status of salt-tolerance achieved in rice by various mechanisms including the ion homeostasis(Na^+/H^+, OsNHX antiporters), compatible organic solutes(glycine betaine and proline), antioxidative genes(OsECS, OsVTE1, OsAPX and OsMSRA4.1), salt responsive regulatory elements(transcription factors, cis-acting elements and miRNAs) and genes ecoding protein kinases(MAPKs, SAPKs and STRKs). Further, the future perspective of developing salt-tolerant varieties lies in exploring halotolerant gene homologs from rice varieties, especially the landraces. Genetic diversity among rice landraces can serve as a valuable resource for future studies toward variety improvement through breeding and genome editing. Further, identification, multiplication, preservation and utilization of biodiversity among landraces are the urgent buffers to be saved as a heritage for future generations to come.

objective:To assess the utility of trans-vaginal ultrasonography in evaluation of non-pregnant sexually active female patients with lower ureteric ***:A prospective study was done from January 2015 to December 2017 including non-pregnant sexually active females with suspected ureteric ***-abdominal ultrasound was initially done in all *** those patients in whom trans-abdominal ultrasound was inconclusive or there was indirect evidence of lower ureteric calculus in form of ureteral dila-tion but no calculus was evident,trans-vaginal ultrasound was *** patients with ureteric calculi detected on trans-vaginal ultrasound and kept on conservative management were also followed up with trans-vaginal ***-contrast computed tomography was done in patients with inconclusive trans-vaginal ***:As per the study protocol,156 out of the total 468 patients evaluated by trans-abdominal ultrasound were eligible for trans-vaginal ***-vaginal ultrasound was done in 149 patients,as seven patients did not give ***-nine patients were detected with a lower ureteric calculus on trans-vaginal ultrasound and 27 patients had gyne-cologic or other cause for their ***-three patients had an inconclusive trans-vaginal ultrasound of which 36 underwent non-contrast computed tomography,among them only one patient had a lower ureteric *** free status could be easily demonstrated on follow-up trans-vaginal ultrasound.

Photocatalysis has been predicted as a promising technology for waste water treatment. N-doped zinc oxide has been used as an effective catalyst for carrying out number of chemical reactions, but limited work has been reported on use of N-doped ZnO as photocatalyst. In the present work, the photocatalytic degradation of Azure A was carried out in the presence of N-doped zinc oxide and the progress of the reaction was observed spectrophotometrically. The morphologies and structures of the as-synthesized nanomaterials were investigated by using FT-IR and DRS techniques. On the basis of observations, a tentative mechanism has been proposed for the photocatalytic degradation of dye.

There are so many existing methods to obtain system reliability like re-generating point function technique, supplementary variables technique etc., but all these techniques are full of complicated calculations. Keeping above these facts in mind, the authors in this paper have evaluated some reliability parameters for tele-communication system by using Boolean functions technique and algebraic method. Reliability of considered tele-communication system has been evaluated by considering the fact that failures follow arbitrary time distribution. In particular, the reliability expression has also been calculated for Exponential and Weibull distributions. Further, an important reliability parameter namely M.T.T.F. (mean time to failure) has also been calculated. A numerical example with graphical illustrations has been appended at the end to highlight the important results and practical utility of the model.
