Determination of flavonoids,polyphenols and antioxidant activity of Tephrosia purpurea:a seasonal study

OBJECTIVE： Tephrosia purpurea （Linn.） Pers. is widely used in traditional medicine to treat liver disorders, febrile attacks, enlargement and obstruction of liver, spleen, and kidney. In the present study investigations were carried out to determine the seasonal impact on the content of flavonoid glycosides and on antioxidant activities so as to identify the optimal time of harvesting. METHODS： The plant materials were collected in different seasons during 2013-2014. Air-dried, powdered plant materials were extracted with 95% ethanol and ethanol：water （1：1 ） by ultrasound-assisted extraction process. Their chemical composition in terms of total polyphenol and flavonoid contents （TPCs and TFCs） was determined using modified colorimetric Folin-Ciocalteu method and aluminum chloride colorimetric assay respectively. To determine the in vitro antioxidant activity, diphenyl-picryl hydrazyl （DPPH） radical-scavenging assay and total antioxidant capacity by phosphomolybdate antioxidant assay were carried out. High-performance liquid chromatography （HPLC）/photo-diode array （PDA） analysis was used to quantify the flavonoid glycosides in the samples collected in different seasons. Correlation studies were also carried out between antioxidant activities and TPCs. RESULTS： The highest TPC and TFC were found to be in the 95% ethanolic extract of the August sample and the lowest in the 50% hydro-alcoholic extract of the plant sample collected in winter season. It was observed that in both the assays used to determine the antioxidant activity, the 95% ethanolic extracts in all the seasons showed a higher activity than their respective 50% hydro- alcoholic extracts with an increase in activity as we go from cold to hot to rainy seasons. Based on correlation analysis, DPPH radical-scavenging activities as well as the spectrophotometrically measured phosphomolybdenum complex were also strongly correlated with TPC of the extracts, The most abundant flavonoid glycoside was quercetin-3-O-

Tissue Engineered Osteogenesis in Bone Defects by Homologous Osteoblasts Loaded on Sterile Bioresorbable Coral Scaffold in Rabbits

Objectives: This study explores feasibility of tissue-engineered osteogenesis using sterile coral implants loaded with homologous osteoblasts to repair bone defects. Study Design: A unilateral 4 mm transverse dis- continuity defect was produced approximately mid-way along left radius of young female rabbits using ro- tary diamond disc under continuous saline irrigation and stabilised with autoclaved steel miniplate and screws. The defect was then fitted with sterile bioresorbable coral implant loaded with homologous neonatal calvarial osteoblasts or control implants without osteoblasts. All animals underwent radiography immedi- ately post-operative, at weekly intervals for four weeks and at fortnightly intervals thereafter. Operated bones were histologically evaluated for osteogenesis at 12 weeks. Results: Findings demonstrate osteogenesis and complete repair of bioresorbable coral implant by homologous osteoblasts loaded on coral scaffold. Conclu- sions: Single stage surgery using this technique to induce osteogenesis and closure of discontinuity bone de- fects including palatal clefts and peripheral reduction of large craniofacial defects might prove better thera- peutic modality than autologous bone grafting or tissue distraction osteogenesis.

Dynamic hip screw fixation is a com- monly performed procedure for internal fixation of intertro- chanteric femoral fractures. Arterial injury following the operative fixation is a rare but serious event. We present a patient who developed pseudoaneurysm ofprofunda femo- ris artery after internal fixation of intertrochanteric fracture with a dynamic hip screw. The diagnosis was confirmed by angiographic study and it was successfully treated by coil embolization.

The emergence and rapid spread of novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has caused over 180 million confirmed cases resulting in over 4 million deaths worldwide with no clear end in sight for the coronavirus disease 19(COVID-19)*** SARS-CoV-2 exposed individuals experience mild to moderate symptoms,including fever,cough,fatigue,and loss of smell and ***,many individuals develop pneumonia,acute respiratory distress syndrome,septic shock,and multiorgan *** addition to these primarily respiratory symptoms,SARS-CoV-2 can also infiltrate the central nervous system,which may damage the blood-brain barrier and the neuron's *** inflammation and neurodegeneration in the brain stem can further prevent efferent signaling to cranial nerves,leading to the loss of anti-inflammatory signaling and normal respiratory and gastrointestinal ***,SARS-CoV-2 can infect enterocytes resulting in gut damage followed by microbial dysbiosis and translocation of bacteria and their byproducts across the damaged epithelial *** a result,this exacerbates pro-inflammatory responses both locally and systemically,resulting in impaired clinical *** evidence has highlighted the complex interactions that mutually modulate respiratory,neurological,and gastrointestinal *** this review,we discuss the ways SARS-CoV-2 potentially disrupts the gut-brain-lung *** further highlight targeting specific responses to SARS-CoV-2 for the development of novel,urgently needed therapeutic ***,we propose a prospective related to the individuals from Low-and Middle-Income ***,the underlying propensity for heightened gut damage/microbial translocation is likely to result in worse clinical outcomes during this COVID-19 pandemic.

An Application of the ABS Algorithm for Modeling Multiple Regression on Massive Data, Predicting the Most Influencing Factors

Linear Least Square (LLS) is an approach for modeling regression analysis, applied for prediction and quantification of the strength of relationship between dependent and independent variables. There are a number of methods for solving the LLS problem but as soon as the data size increases and system becomes ill conditioned, the classical methods become complex at time and space with decreasing level of accuracy. Proposed work is based on prediction and quantification of the strength of relationship between sugar fasting and Post-Prandial (PP) sugar with 73 factors that affect diabetes. Due to the large number of independent variables, presented problem of diabetes prediction also presented similar complexities. ABS method is an approach proven better than other classical approaches for LLS problems. ABS algorithm has been applied for solving LLS problem. Hence, separate regression equations were obtained for sugar fasting and PP severity.

Estimation of Sex by Applying Discriminant Function Analysis on Osteo-metric Parameters of Clavicle in Population of Haryana

It is important to pinpoint the identity of the deceased in scenarios such as decomposed bodies,skeletonized remains,mutilated remains,exhumed dead bodies,and in mass *** are many important parameters to establish the identity of a *** estimation of sex is one of *** of sex from bones is easy when the whole skeleton is available,but it becomes difficult when the body is mutilated and only parts of the body or bones are *** present study is undertaken to estimate the sex by applying discriminant function analysis(DFA)on various osteo-metric parameters of the clavicle in the population of *** hundred pairs of clavicles were collected from the bodies brought for *** were macerated and air dried for the removal of soft *** variables of clavicle of both sexes were measured and analyzed using the analysis of variance test which provided descriptive *** of the values helped in sexing of the *** of sex from different parameters of the clavicle was possible with overall accuracy of 93%in original and 92.5%in crossvalidated cases among total *** was 96%and 90%in original and 96%and 89%in cross validated cases among males and females respectively,indicating a strong correlation in estimation of sex of a person from the *** most important parameters to determine the sex from the clavicle are length of clavicle,mid clavicular circumference of clavicle,weight of clavicle,transverse diameter of lateral end of right clavicle,and longitudinal diameter of medial end of the left clavicle.

Outcome of patients with traumatic cranial nerve palsy admitted to a university hospital in Nepal

Background Cranial nerve palsy (CNP) is a common complication of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Despite a high incidence of TBI in Nepal (382 per 100,000), literature on the specific management and outcome of CNP is lacking. This study aimed to examine the outcomes of TBI patients involving single versus multiple *** A retrospective chart review of 170 consecutive TBI patients admitted to the tertiary neurosurgical center in Nepal between April 2020 and April 2022 was conducted. Demographic, clinical, and etiological characteristics; imaging findings; and management strategies were recorded, compared, and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended (GOSE) was used to measure the outcomes in two groups of patients (single and multiple CNP) at 3 *** Out of 250 eligible patients, 80 were excluded and CNP was noted in 29 (17.1%) of the remaining 170. The median age was 34.9 years, and falls (60.6%) were the most common cause of trauma. TBI severity was categorized based on GCS: mild (82.4%), moderate (15.9%), and severe (1.8%). Cranial nerve involvement was seen in 29 (17.05%) patients: single cranial nerve involvement in 26 (89.65%) and multiple nerve involvement in 3 (10.34%). The most common isolated cranial nerve involved was the oculomotor nerve (37.9%). CT findings revealed a maximum of skull fractures with no significant association between CNP and CT *** CNP is a common consequence of TBI with the most common etiology being falls followed by RTA. Single CNP was more common than multiple CNP with no significant difference in the outcome in the 3-month GOSE score. Further research is needed to determine the burden of traumatic CNP and establish specific management guidelines for different types of CNP.
