Comparing the demographic data and outcomes of septic shock patients presenting to teaching or non-teaching metropolitan hospitals in the United States

BACKGROUND:Studies looking at the effect of hospital teaching status on septic shock related in-hospital mortality are *** aim of this study was to examine the effect of hospital teaching status on mortality in septic shock patients in the United ***:This was a retrospective observational study,using the Nationwide Emergency Department Sample Database(released in 2018).All patients with septic shock were *** sample logistic regression was performed to assess the impact of hospital teaching status on patient ***:A total of 388,552 septic shock patients were included in the *** average age was 66.93 years and 51.7%were *** of the patients presented to metropolitan teaching hospitals(68.2%)and 31.8%presented to metropolitan non-teaching *** shock patients presenting to teaching hospitals were found to have a higher percentage of medical comorbidities,were more likely to be intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation(50.5%vs.46.9%)and had a longer average length of hospital stay(12.47 d vs.10.20 d).Septic shock patients presenting to teaching hospitals had greater odds of in-hospital mortality compared to those presenting to metropolitan non-teaching hospitals(adjusted odd ratio[OR]=1.295,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.256-1.335).CONCLUSION:Septic shock patients presenting to metropolitan teaching hospitals had significantly higher risks of mortality than those presenting to metropolitan non-teaching *** also had higher rates of intubation and mechanical ventilation as well as longer lengths of hospital stay than those in non-teaching hospitals.

Chemiluminescent Determination of Cyromazine in Milk Samples Using Copper（III） Chelate-Triton X-100 by Flow Injection Analysis

Cyromazine（CYR） was determined in milk samples using copper（HI） chelate-Triton X-100 chemiluminescence（CL） system associated with flow-injection（FI） in KOH medium. The relative CL intensity for CYR concentration was linear over the range of 5×10^-4-10μg/mL（R2=0.9990, n=11） with injection rate of 160 h-1 and the relative standard deviation（RSD, n=4） of 1.2%-2.6%. The limit of detection（LOD） for signal-to-noise ratio of 3 was 1.5×10^4μg/mL. The influences of key chemical and physical parameters, some major fresh water ions at their maximum admissible concentrations and a number of pesticides were examined as potential interferences. The concentrations of CYR in spiked milk samples were successfully determined by the proposed method and the results were in good agreement with that of the previously reported HPLC method, having recovery range of （92% a=4%）-（106% a：2%）. The possible CL reaction mechanism for copper（m） chelate-Triton X-100-CYR was also briefly discussed.

Flow-injection Determination of Cysteine,N-Acetyl Cysteine and Glutathione in Pharmaceuticals via Potassium Ferricyanide-Fe(Ⅲ) Spectrophotometric System

A simple flow injection spectrophotometric method is reported for the determination of cysteine,N-acetyl cysteine and glutathione based on the reduction of Fe（Ⅲ）/ferricyanide,the in situ reduced ions are reacted with unreduced portion of ferricyanide/Fe（Ⅲ） to form soluble Prussian blue,which is monitored at 735 *** calibration graphs are linear in the concentration ranges of（1―100）×10-6 mol/L for cysteine and N-acetyl cysteine,and（1―50）×10-6 mol/L for *** relative standard deviations of 1.8%,2.5% and 1.9% were found for eleven replicate analyses of 5×10-6 mol/L cysteine,N-acetyl cysteine and *** limits of detection（3σ blank） at 5×10-7 mol/L for cysteine,and 3×10-7 mol/L for N-acetyl cysteine and glutathione were *** proposed method allowed 60 injections/*** effects of common substances present in pharmaceuticals and human physiological fluids were *** method was applied to determining cysteine in pharmaceutical formulations with the recoveries in a range of 97% to 106% and the results obtained are agreed well with labeled values.

The CNO cycle is the main source of energy in stars more massive than our *** process defines the energy production,the duration of which can be used to determine the lifetime of massive *** cycle is an important tool for determining the age of globular *** proton capture via p+^(14)N→^(15)O+γ,at energies of astrophysical interest,is an important process in the CNO *** this project,we apply a potential model to describe both non-resonant and resonant reactions in the channels where radiative capture occurs through electric E1 *** employed the R-matrix method to describe the ongoing reactions via M1 resonant transitions,when it was not possible to correctly reproduce the experimental data using the potential *** partial components of the astrophysical S-factor are calculated for all possible electric and magnetic dipole transitions in ^(15)*** linear extrapolated S-factor at zero energy(S(0))agrees well with earlier reported values for all transition types considered in this *** on the value of the total astrophysical S-factor,depending on the collision energy,we calculate the nuclear reaction rates for p+^(14)N→^(15)O+γ.The computed rates agree well with the results reported in the NACRE II Collaboration and most recent existing measurements.

The neutron capture rates and temperature dependent stellar beta decay rates of Mo isotopes are investigated within the framework of the statistical code TALYS v1.96 and the proton neutron quasi particle random phase approximation(pn-QRPA)*** Maxwellian average cross-section(MACS)and neutron capture rates for the^(95-98)Mo(n,γ)^(96-99)Mo radiative capture process are analyzed within the framework of the statistical code TALYS v1.96 based on the phenomenological nuclear level density model and gamma strength *** present model-based computations for the MACS are comparable to the existing measured *** sensitivity of stellar weak interaction rates to various densities and temperatures is investigated within the framework of the pn-QRPA *** attention is paid to the impact of thermally filled excited states in the decaying nuclei(^(95-98)Mo)on electron emission and positron capture ***,we compare the neutron capture rates and stellar beta decay *** is found that neutron capture rates are higher than stellar beta decay rates at both lower and higher temperatures.

Flow injection spectrophotometric determination of vitamin E in pharmaceuticals,milk powder and blood serum using potassium ferricyanide-Fe(Ⅲ) detection system

A simple and sensitive flow injection spectrophotometric method is reported for the determination of vitamin E using potassium ferricyanide-Fe(Ⅲ) detection *** the presence of vitamin E,Fe(Ⅲ)/ferricyanide *** in situ reduced ions are then reacted with unreduced portion of ferricyanide/Fe(Ⅲ) to make soluble Prussian blue,which is monitored at absorption wavelength of 735 *** calibration graph was obtained in the concentration range of 0.1-40μg mL^(-1).The relative standard deviations (n=4) were in the range of 1.1-3.6%,with limits of detection(3 s blank) of 0.04μg mL^(-1).The proposed method allowed 12 injections h^(-1).The method is applied to determine vitamin E in pharmaceuticals,infant milk and blood serum samples using hexane extraction with the recoveries in the range of 93±3 to 97.5±4%.The method is validated using certified reference materials SRM 968c for blood serum samples.

Radiative capture p+^(9)Be→^(10)B+γ at energies bearing astrophysical importance is a key process for the spectroscopic study of ^(10)*** this work,we consider the radiative capture cross-section for the ^(9)Be(p,γ)^(10)B within the framework of the potential model and the R-matrix method for the multi-entrance channel *** certain cases,when the potential fails,therefore,the R-matrix approach is better to use for the description of partial components of the cross-section that have sharp or broad *** all possible electric and magnetic dipole transitions,partial components of the astrophysical S-factor are *** computed value of the total S-factor at zero energy is consistent with the reported results.

Flow-injection Spectrophotometric Determination of Uric Acid in Urine via Prussian Blue Reaction

A simple and sensitive flow injection（FI） spectrophotometric method was reported for the determination of uric acid based on the reduction of Fe（III）/ferricyanide in the presence of uric acid. The in situ reduced ions reacted with unreduced portion of ferricyanide/Fe（III） to form soluble Prussian blue, which was monitored at an absorption wavelength of 735 nm. The optimized conditions allow a linear calibration graph in a concentration range of 1―100 μmol/L. The relative standard deviation was in a range of 0.5%―2.5%, with a detection limit（3σ blank） of 0.3 μmol/L and a sampling frequency of 60 injection/h was obtained. The effect of common substances present in human physiological fluids on the determination of uric acid was examined. The method was applied to determining uric acid in human urine samples with the recoveries in a range of 96%―105%. The results agree well with those by spectrophotometric reference method at a confidence level of 95%. Spectrophotometric procedures for uric acid determination in clinical samples were reviewed briefly.

Organic Amendments Improve Plant Morpho-Physiology and Antioxidant Metabolism in Mitigating Drought Stress in Bread Wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)

Due to the unpredictable climate change,drought stress is being considered as one of the major threats to crop ***(Triticum aestivum *** Gom-26)being a dry season crop frequently faces scarcity of water and results in a lower ***,this experiment aims to explore the role of different organic amendments(OAs)in mitigating drought stress-induced *** pot experiment consisted of different organic amendments ***,vermicompost and poultry manure@0.09 kg m^(−2)soil,biochar@2.5%w/w soil and chitosan@1%w/w soil which was imposed on the plants grown under both well-watered and drought *** showed that drought stress reduced plant height(15%),SPAD value(16%),relative water content(13%),number of spikelet spike^(−1)(17%),number of grains spike^(−1)(12%),and 100-grain weight(18%).Organic amendments act as a protectant and reduce drought stress-induced damages by enhancing the morpho-physiological and yield *** enhanced SPAD value by 18%,number of spikelets spike^(−1)by 20%,number of grains spike^(−1)by 17%,whereas poultry manure increased plant height by 16%under drought condition compared to control *** other OAs applied,vermicompost was proved to be capable of reducing the higher lipid peroxidation and proline content raised by drought *** stress-induced increment of catalase,ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase activities were also efficiently modulated by the organic amendment *** present study concluded that OAs play significant roles in alleviating drought stressinduced damages by improving the morpho-physiological attributes and among the different types of OAs used vermicompost performed better which in addition ceased the production of reactive oxygen species.

A Marxist-Feminist Study of Social Inequality in Arab and American Literature

Academic scholars over the last few decades, in feminist studies, sociology, and other fields of study in human science have paid enormous attention to gender issues mainly the so called “gender identity”. The present paper will in the literary field extend the debateable subject by investigating the social inequalities linked to gender and class in the Arab and American societies. Marxist-feminist criticism will be the method of analysis according to which gender is a socially developed ideology that is reflected in the societal and cultural practices. This paper will shed light on the Arab-American literature with special reference to Ahlam Mostaghanemi’s The Black Fits you and Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl to project the social issues of gender equality and gender identity.
